Giant Bomb @ E3 2016 | WEED3

I'm not of the viewpoint that it is acceptable to pump out big budget sequel after sequel and then try and show a few new small scale new IPs to save face.

EA's conference was essentially this.
Doesn't really have anything to do with your original point, but OK.

Horizon continues to be the standout, and I thought it was presented well. Hard to get excited about some of the other stuff, especially when it's so trailer heavy.

It baffles me that anything less than 110% frothing at the mouth is seen as jaded or cynical. Like, to the people shitposting - the critique was that they wanted more information. they're on your side, if anything.

Why is it so important to people to be spoonfed a certain level of hype that falls in line with their bias? It sounds exhausting to need validation that frequently.

Oh right, Kojima's thing. Looks like a Kojima trailer, personally very unsettled by all the ocean critter death because marine biology is my jam. Implied it was caused by oil, wonder if it'll be an environmental story.

I think you can apply a certain sense of objectivity in measuring how effective the conferences were in conveying their messages and games, in terms of the individual presentations but also the overarching cohesiveness, and I don't see how sony can get anything but really low marks. Probably the best line up of games (Kojima makes them the winner by default), but they fumbled over and over again in making it intuitively understandable what their goals were and what was meant to be taken away from each part.

I feel like I'm the only one to side with the GB guys. I thought Sony's was easily way more boring than Microsoft's. I was excited at the beginning, GoW and Horizion I'm super interested and hyped for. but everything else just totally bounced off of me. It seemed like everything of note that was announced is over a year away, and when companies announce stuff too far away, I totally don't care, because there is no point in being hyped for something that is so stinkin' far away. Kojima's stuff isn't out for easily until late 2018 and that Days Gone game looked visually interesting, but a realistic zombie game in 2016 is the last thing I want (but the tounge in cheek Dead Rising 4 game that is all about being goofy and fun seems ok)
Don't worry, lot's of people in this thread agree with you.

Yes it does?

I was excited to see Sony investing in big budget AAA new IP's like I mentioned originally because no other conference did so like them, even if Days Gone was a wet fart.

Because those people were hyped and anyone who isn't just as hyped as they are are downers to them.

Wow seems like I have the complete opposite opinion for Sony from posters here. Thought it was great! I agree about Days Gone. It wasn;t very impressive at all. And also a lot of teasers with little substance. But the teasers still psyched me out.

It was my favorite of the bunch with MS real close below it. I'm just keeping my expectations in check overall and I enjoy discussing things.

I honestly thing Ubisoft had the best showing so far. At least it was a very interesting presentation even if the range of emotions was "excitement" to "fuck this."

There's a difference between 110% frothing at the mouth and this:

@DanRyckert

That was the weakest Sony presser in several years. I had high hopes! Disappointed in almost everything that wasn't God of War or Kojima.

No it doesn't. You went from that point to "I don't even think indies should be at E3." to "I don't think indies should be used to save face from reusing old IPs." Not to mention that I'm not even entirely sure you know what constitutes a new IP.

You're kind of all over the place here.

Horizon looks cool, though I'm getting kind of burned out on 3rd-person action-adventure.

God of War and Resident Evil 7 look fine, but might as well be new IP.

Kojima was the highlight with his trademark brand of batshit.

I am really looking forward to Zelda tomorrow. My favorite series in games.

I was impressed with everything Sony showed i loved all of the new stuff, the VR stuff, God of War didn't look like another run of the mill sequel like a Gears or Forza and more importantly its stuff i can only get on that system.

The best thing to me about the MS conference was everything is coming to PC and not in a port begging way but in a hey now i don't have to spend $300-400 on a S and another $400-500 on scorpio. EA i turned off during the 40 minutes of Fifa but i did love the Ubisoft stuff.

The format was good, except for some of the VR stuff being left unexplained but I can't blame them. VR is fucking impossible to demo. The best you can expect is to not look like a fool, the worst case, everything breaks. It's incredibly cool tech but if you're not playing, the experience is kind of impossible to convey with video and explanations.

I can understand not demoing the stuff, but what about explaining what to expect from something labeled an experience. Am I paying $400 to play 20 minute pieces of actual games? Is this stuff gonna be packed in with games it gets its assets from? If not how much can we expect to pay for experiences?

I found the MS conference made exciting things Im still very much not excited for, whereas Sony made unexciting a bunch of exciting things.

We wouldn't have to if the GB guys just took their joy pills.

Or he'll teach GB's moms to suck eggs.

That last scene gives me hope.

That demo was the most interesting thing I've ever seen about a God of War game. But it being Kratos makes it less interesting, not more.

Yeah, part of me wishes they had gone with someone completely new, but I think there's some decent potential for an interesting new arc. Considering the prominence of that series, Kratos the character has been pretty ridiculously underserved narratively beyond just being really fucking angry all the time -- which can be fun for a bit, but was just SO played out by the end of that third game. Looks like this might be another example of game writers/developers aging into fathers and having that reflected in their game design (a la the Witcher games).

I am so glad that the vr shit was brief and forgettable.

I feel like we are already on the downswing of vr and people are kind of over it, and publishers are dead scared to put any real money into projects for it.

Thus we get "expereinces" that look about as fun as the average kinect game. Wow, vr. The future.

It was the worst for me but only for the pace. It was kind of a slog with the games just kept on going and going and going, I felt MS had the right balance with showing and info, probably the best pace of the bunch.

Yup, its like people get uncomfortable if theyre hyped for a game and the supreme lords known as Giant Bomb are not.

yep

plus if they dont like one game now, it doesnt meant they wont later.

i might be wrong but i think jeff wasnt too hot on doom at first, but look at him now.

they are just humans with opinions.

i like that

Shame I wasn't able to go to the theater thing last year, that would have been the one to be at lol. This was fun, I guess, though.

But man, how fucking awesome is it to get a new Kojima trailer that has nothing to do with Metal Gear? I'm beyond excited to see what that winds up being.

I mean, we can all agree retroactively that last year's Sony conference was weak too, right? I feel like if we gave this one another year we'd agree with their lukewarm sentiments as well, people just want to be excited while the hype train is still going.

It's a lightning in a bottle thing since Shenmue 3 and FF7R were memes for at least a decade. On a logical level it was hot air, but logic is for nerds.

Certainly was a masterclass in how quickly the expectation game can turn against a company.

Kinda agree with Giant Bomb. Everyone saying it's the best conference by far, I agree with you, but only because best is just a comparative. It's overall just been an alright E3, and Sony is the best comparatively. Sony announced some cool games, but there was nothing too huge (except Kojima I guess), and it didn't really have a good flow. Horizon still looks great, RE7 looks too weird for me but looks great for people who enjoy horror games, TLG is happening, and I like the God of War shakeup. Everything else was fine

Surprised to be interested in God of War. I never got into the old ones but they're obviously doing something different here.

Horizon still looks great.

All my hype has dried up for The Last Guardian. I'm still looking forward to it but it's been delayed so much I'm preparing myself for disappointment.

VR was disappointing. I don't trust Resident Evil to be good, and that was the only "big" game they showed for VR. Everything else was an "experience" or wasn't explained enough so I can only assume they aren't full games.

Kojima being awesome.

Zombie game looks like a zombie game.
