Giant Bomb @ E3 2016 | WEED3

Wind Waker already had that stuff, though. I don't recall if they broke or not, but you constantly switched weapons. This really feels like Wind Waker with the water replaced with more interesting environments.

Yeah there was totally durability. Weapons broke or burned. Of course you always had your invincible sword though.

What was Jeff saying about Shadow of Mordor 2? Just surprised it wasn't there based on the resume leak or was there more to him talking about it? I walked back into the room at the very end.

Whenever Nintendo shows a game, I feel like people's gaming expectations regress 10 years.

"there's loot!?"
"Oh you can climb?"
"you can turn an apple into a baked apple?!?"
"Crafting??? Fuuuuck"

One hell of a handicap

Personally, it's less about lowering expectations for Nintendo and more about Nintendo's willingness to change a franchise in such a big way after 30 years of more or less the same. These aren't the kind of changes that Nintendo is often open to make, especially in one of their biggest franchises.

Crafting, looting and all of that stuff is all old hat. In my eyes, it always seemed like the Zelda games were never going to change. They were never going to adopt this sort of western RPG style of play. That's where my excitement comes from.

Is it just me who finds it really odd that Jeff knew nothing about anything in Sony's conference?

He's one of the biggest games in games journalism, alongside Jason Schreier who leaks things, and yet we get loads of these "insiders" on here who leak stuff.

I suppose I'm not surprised by the fact that Jeff isn't told things, but more that GB find out about stuff through insiders on here like us too.

I thought it would have been the other way round, with Jeff knowing the majority of stuff.

Too much of this game feels like Wind Waker to not be heavily related to it.

Enemies are nearly the same design wise, enemy deaths are even the exact same.

Yeah, I could see this being a sequel in the Wind Waker timeline.

Wind Waker (Hyrule flooded) -> Phantom Hourglass (Link and Tetra adventure around) -> Spirit Tracks (Link and Tetra found a new Hyrule) -> Breath of the Wild (Hundreds of years later, New Hyrule has long since declined due to such and such)

Lots of this stuff is impressive in the context of a Zelda game but I guess I just don't have the attachment to the series any longer. These mechanics have existed now for some time and I'm not feeling the excitement because it's happening in a Zelda game.

are you sure you're not thinking of skyward sword? I don't remember wind waker having a durability based system, except for enemy weapons/world items you picked up that you couldn't keep in your inventory..

He doesn't chase that stuff at all like Jason Schreier does, that's not his job. If he was a reporter he probably would've had the sources for it, but he probably spends no time doing that.

I'm not offended by durability. Where it crosses the line is when I have to repair the item(s). It always frustrates me when I have multiple items at different degrees at degradation so I get flustered about whether I should let some items wear out further or repair them asap.

I hope this Zelda just has replacement items. And from the duplicate pickups and quick item select, it seems that way. So I'm ok with it.

Not alot of people knew anything about the Sony conference. Everyone guessed God of War showing up, but it seemed that Sony held it tight.

Sony had their surprises on lockdown this year. Who at Sony would benefit from telling Jeff about them?

Also considering how up front he is with his friendship with SEVERAL people at Sony, it would cause them problems if he was leaking insider information.

I just thought that with the amount of friends he has within the industry, he may have heard a few things or had it come up in conversation.

I'd like to see dungeons or familiar Zelda staples. Open world stuff is interesting and cool compared to other Zelda games, but I mean, it's an open world. Modern Zelda games shine in the dungeons.

Art style is wonderful. Ideally, NX is 1080p and cleans up the image. I'm abandoning the hope for 60fps.

To be fair, whenever it's come up I think they make the distinction that they're not 'journalists' or at least claim to be, except for maybe Austin. The distinction between enthusiast press and journalism is lost on some people when comparing outlets, I feel

Yeah, I'm really excited about the game from what was shown, but I want to see a bit of good dungeon design as well.

I find it funny how Ocarina of Time set the standard for 3D action RPGs, and now this latest one is copying features from every other action RPG.

it's come full circle.

I was a bit concerned about durability at first, but other than that and the obvious limits of Wii U hardware doing an open world, it looks great.

Couldn't watch the stream past the pokes bit. How did Breath of the Wild look?

A little bit of Dragon's Dogma, a little bit of Dark Souls, a little bit of Wind Waker, a little bit of Skyward Sword.

No major story bits, but a lot of physics shown off and the open world environment looks gooood.
