I never got the anticipation for Evolve. It seemed like all of the excitement about it pre-release was generated purely by marketing and not at all by the game looking any good.

I don't revel in the failure of things often but I wasn't bummed to see Evolve fall flat on its face. Everything surrounding it seemed completely artificial.

You're right, it's very easy for me to act like I was some clairvoyant now after it's clear the game didn't live up to peoples' hopes. Left 4 Dead is awesome and remains awesome, but the moment those guys split from Valve I stopped caring about them.

Evolve is a great game with top notch art and visuals that is extremely hard to play well, especially post launch when you're often many skill levels below the the people who have stuck around.
Not sure why people are so eager to harp on a multiplayer game that was actually ambitious and interesting but oh well.

Mario Maker is going on my top 10 even though I didn't play it. I don't give a dang, I've gotten more enjoyment from it than any other game this year.
