Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

I agree with what they said about BT.

He's great, but there's just not enough there.

On one occasion he was chasing a Spanish-speaking player around the map yelling permutations of "Make me a taco!"

I feel like BT might make a strong case for best moment/sequence of the year:

Basically that whole entire level where you're hopping from ship to ship and BT just fuckin NAILS the throw to get on the enemy flagship is one of the coolest moments of the year for me.

Aaaahhh you're so right. I'll bet they pick the wrong moment from Titanfall 2.

The smart pistol moment leading up to implementing BT's personality on the new mech I feel is the best moment in the game.

Man, I've only made it through the Best New Character award for today so far, but I'm already getting the feeling that Brad's blind love for
--DOOM--
is just gonna steamroll these conversations.
Samuel Hayden was such a fucking non-character that when they first brought him up I said "Who?" I like DOOM, but the story and characters of that game made zero impact on me at all. I actually think they work against the game rather than making it better.

BT got robbed, as well as Uncle Death. One of Brad's major arguments for SH was shit that you had to read in fucking text logs...

It's just full of awesome moments! Fuck I want some single player DLC. I think they'll pick
Press __ to time travel
. Which is cool, but I think Jeff has oversold that.

It's definitely between those three moments for me, but I think S.E.R.E. is more of a distillation of what Titanfall 2 was all about, which is making you feel awesome.

Like, I'll compare it to Halo. The Halo games actually do a really bad job making you feel like a Spartan SHOULD feel like based on other media like the books. Titanfall does a really good job of making you feel exactly the way being a Pilot should make you feel.

It launched with a very small number of characters, and it costs a fortune to add additional characters, costumes, and stages. Then at the end of two seasons of characters, it's still missing classic characters like E. Honda and Blanka.

It also didn't work for a long time because of server issues, and the game still goes down for a long time when they add a new character.
There's a prime difference between iconic (well-known) & popular (well-liked). While the likes of E. Honda & Blanka are definitely iconic characters, I wouldn't necessarily say that they're popular in the grand scheme of things (hell, they weren't in the Alpha games until Alpha 3). As for the roster count, fighting games usually start with small rosters, especially those which are starting from scratch. GGXrd had a smaller roster when it started, SFIV had a small roster when it first hit arcades, & Tekken 7's roster was relatively small when it first hit arcades (& if I recall, they even reused some animations & voice clips from previous Tekken games). The reason why SFIV didn't seem like it had a small roster when it hit consoles was because the console release was technically the 2nd iteration of SFIV, whereas the arcade version was the first.

Alex is the goddamn MVP this year so far fo rme. I just like what he's putting into the lists. I didn't know he played Tokyo Mirage Sessions enough to suggest them for the categories. Also liked his take on TLG about Trico.

wtf at them
almost eliminating Helmut Kruger right at the start and then naming him the winner at the end.

Personally, I agree with Brad's initial assessment that he's more of a meme than a character.

I guess I need to play
Hitman
because I have no fucking idea why that guy was chosen for Best New Character.

Alex is really amazing this year. Gives credit where it's due, tries to put games that clearly won't win anything in the spotlight for at least a moment.

Brad, on the other hand, is so goddamn crazy about Doom I wouldn't even be surprised if he pushed it for Best Multiplayer.

Yeah I don't get it.
He's barely a character at all. I think the guys made him a thing through their own shenanigans, not because he was otherwise interesting.

Bringing up Rafe and Nadine but not Sam was weird.
By weird you surely must mean "the right choice"?

Nadine was the only remotely interesting character in that game despite her terrible accent. Primarily because she doesn't give a shit about the insane lengths the idiots in the game are willing to go to over treasure.

I don't get why they eliminated
Chief Beef
for being too much of a headcanon "character" but then just accepted
Helmut Kruger
.

Any timestamps when "best character" category ends? Don't want to get spoiled for some games I'm currently playing through.

I wish someone had played through A Chair in a Room. It's a more complete VR experience than almost anything on their list. VR-ness aside, it's just a great horror game.

Still listening to Best new Character but I'm pleasantly surprised they're not bending over backwards for Firewatch as much as I anticipated.
