Vinny and Jason have both started Persona 5 but haven't earned any trophies yet

You should get a few soon. There's one for ambushing the enemy 50 times, and ambushing is really easy to do. Much easier than sneaking up behind a shadow in P3 or 4 and timing the swing of your weapon.

Played Banjo Kazooie recently for the first time and enjoyed it, even devoid of nostalgia. There's some fun ideas and levels in that thing. Banjo Tooie is complete trash though.

Nuts and Bolts still the GOAT 🙌

Jeff on the right side of history. David WIse fucking sucks man, the most brain-dead pedestrian elevator/weather channel music ever. I don't get it.
Fucking fight me IRL.

Kirkhope is like seeing Stomp performed by high people using xylophones instead of trash cans lids.

I never knew what "down" meant as a noun so phoenix down never meant anything to me. Even after Jeff and Brad explained it as "the down of a phoenix", I was just flustered.

Also (very tiny Yakuza 0 spoiler):
I wish you got just a quick extra scene if you went back to the stripper as Kiryu later in the game

It's weird that we're far enough removed from the mid-360 era that I have basically as much nostalgia for Nuts & Bolts as I do for the original BK.

Purely anecdotal poll time;

Does anyone currently watching Beast in the East (and planning to finish the series) feel like they are getting all they'll need from Yakuza 0 by watching the feature, and have decided against purchasing it?

I ask because I've been thinking a lot about the Atlus/Persona streaming bullshit, and as much as I think it's the wrong move, I can empathize with the thought process of "So much of the Persona experience is the story, why would anyone buy it if they've watched it all already?"

This Yakuza 0 playthrough is a similar thing. Sure, the gameplay is actually really fun, but the story and characters are the standout aspect. So I'm wondering if anyone is willing to be honest and say "yeah, I may have bought it after watching the first little bit, but it won't be that enjoyable after seeing it all play out for me."

Meh I don't think I have a dog in this fight, I like Kirkhope a lot better but I wouldn't go to bat for him that hard. However, anything Viva Pinanta > the entirety of David Wise's catalogue, plain facts.

That's hard to say since I'd already played through Yakuza 0 before they started the series, but I'd say Persona and Yakuza have slightly different approaches to the story. Since Persona is half of a time-management sim, I can see how people would be interested in watching while also wanting to make those choices themselves. Yakuza feels a lot more linear, outside of the sub stories (which you'd probably want to make the ideal choice for anyway) and the styles, there isn't that much customization. So in that sense I can see someone watching the entire series and getting the gist of it, but I can also see them getting into it and buying the next Yakuza game in preparation, something they might not have done at all if they didn't watch a playthrough of the game.

I'm actually considering buying Yakuza 0 thanks to BitE because I never had any kind of exposure to the franchise prior to this. At the same time, there's still a decent difference between seeing someone play a game over actually playing it yourself, at least for me. Just watching I'm more investing in the commentary over the story, even if the story is the standout bit.

Actually yes.

I'm quite glad they're playing because I want to see the game, but I tend to get bored with that specific kind of combat. So now I get to see the game without having to play it. Which is also nice because that's another huge game I don't have to play, when I'm still planning on playing Horizon and Nioh at some point, and I'm only 22ish hours into Persona.

Conversely had they not done Beast in the East I might not have heard/seen enough of Yakuza 0 to make me want to buy it in the first place.

EDIT: Shit I forgot Nier. Too many great games this year #FirstWorldProblems.

I just started Chapter 5 in Yakuza 0, but then I dropped it cuz other games started coming out so I haven't watched the last two BitE videos. But I'm half-contemplating just watching BitE and not going back to it. I want to see the story, but I'm not sure I want to keep playing it now that I've put it down for a while

I stopped watching Beast in the East because they are further into the game than I am and I don't want to spoil it.

Viva Pinata's tunes are totally okay. DKC2 is peak video game music, though.

I am completely sympathetic to the concern of publishers when it comes to full game playthroughs. And at least anecdotally you totally read comments online of people saying they just watched the let's play instead of buying the game. IDK :/

As someone who bought the game and had already played it though it's a lot of fun.

I never cared much for David Wise's stuff. It's cute and fun but I prefer the more melodic focus of Kirkhope?

I agree.
