What's with all the hate for Ben on Murder Island?
Are people actually watching the streams to see expert gameplay?
It doesn't matter if the bombsquad are good or bad I watch to see them play no matter how good or bad they are.
Ben, don't listen to the asshats, you did great! It was a very fun stream :)

"I like this game [horizon] more than Zelda". Have never heard Rorie this excited talking about a video game before. Guess he likes Horizon, it's my 2nd favorite game this year after persona

It's not? It's just a really well-made Ubisoft open world game that tells a much better story with a much better lead and a much more interesting setting than any of their games.

I would sayit felt more like Witcher 3 with superior combat and a more focused story.

I still can't find the enthusiasm to play it after it became apparent it was a Ubisoft Open World Game 9842.

Not a fair comparison, imo

Nah.

Witcher 3 to me felt kind of like a dark fantasy Rockstar game.

Right, but people are all "holy shit Horizon" when they talk about it.

TBH part of the reason I got that reaction was because it took such a rote formula and managed to refine it so much. Its totally a game in the Far Cry 3-4 mold but it cuts the right bullcrap and improves a lot of the other stuff. On paper all the bits are super familure but I dont think they have ever come together that well.

To me I have felt like Far Cry has always felt like a franchise of "almost great" games. They have strong fundamentals and ideas but they always stumble or dont commit. Primal was a great example. They changed the setting but that was about it. They could have done so much more. Horizon doesnt have that feeling. It feels like a really well executed, completely whole thing.

I'm talking strictly in gameplay and the open world loop, not the atmosphere or story. It's lighter than TW3 and GTA and that was a good thing. TW3 was a lil too dense for its own good. But some parts of the game were clearly influenced by TW3 directly, imo

I felt the quest loop in W3 reminded me a lot of Red Dead and GTA4. Maybe its just the way it was presented.

But yeah. Witcher 3 was a heck of a game and any open world game that doesn't learn a thing from it are messing up (cough Fallout4 /cough). Also they casted Geralt as 1/3rd of the male unnamed NPC's in Horizon so obviously they know whats up.

God. I just remembered I still need to get around to playing Blood and Wine.

Sounds like I'm not doing any gaming at home tonight. Transformer on our block blew up and our house is without power. Probably won't have it back till sometime tomorrow. Also reminds me that I left my PS4 in rest mode...

Should be fine.

Horizon is the best selling video game in 2017 on Amazon Germany and the reviews are insanely positive for a game that popular. That's great. And it's a new IP. With a female protagonist. Cool cool cool.

Same here. Horizon is a fantastic game. Can't wait to jump back in for the platinum. But I must finish Persona 5 first.

Same, I have B&W but I haven't started it yet.

From everything I've seen and read, it looks exactly that. Game design by the numbers, totally safe and boring, done to death.

Give it a chance when it's on sale. Totally worth playing. The main character and story is fantastic and the combat is super refined. Def nothing like the Ubi games. It never got stale or overstayed its welcome.

Its not that he was bad at the game, it was that it wasn'tfun to spectate. The constant switching to first person and erratic camera movement was nauseating at times.

i didn't watch all of it, but in a few of the chunks i watched he was separated from the rest of the group just goofing off while everyone else was out doing much more interesting stuff. it was just kind of boring

Regarding updating review scores over a game's lifetime, I can see both sides of it. It's definitely not the most practical thing, and I doubt reviews get all that much traffic after the first few weeks, as they were suggesting.

That said, in a perfect world they would have the time, energy and resources to devote to something like updating a review, because maybe a game goes on sale after 4 months and someone goes to look up reviews, and the purchasing advice might no longer be valid.

I can kind of see where they're coming from in terms of 'rewarding unfinished games', but part of me also sees that as rewarding developers who try to make things right and succeed. But when I think about it in practice (like if someone were to change scores for Mass Effect or No Man's Sky or something), it does seem kind of iffy.

I do feel strongly about having updated opinions of a game as we get more 'games as a service' type things, because critics should have the backs of all consumers, not just day one purchasers. That said, the equilibrium we're at where reviews are for day one buyers and podcast convos/later videos/tweets/scoreless articles about games getting better is probably the most optimal given the realities of time and staff and all that.
