For me it was absolutely the line in the sand of my musical tastes, going from "whatever was on MTV/FM radio/popular" to actually going and finding music. To this day some of my all-time favorite albums (They're Only Chasing Safety, Watch Out!, Full Collapse) I discovered shortly after getting into Deftones.

I don't think I like Painkiller
it's dumb in a way that the games it was influenced by never were
on paper it's the same as Doom and Quake and all that but you actually had to be on your shit in those games, whereas in Painkiller you can just bunnyhop around and shoot everything up without thinking much about it at all
I mean, shit, them starting you off in the demo with 999 health and well over maximum ammo kind of says it all

That was maybe true for the first few levels. I loved the metagames in Painkiller which granted you the power ups.

Maybe that explains it. I don't think I played much past 3 or 4 levels because it was just so dull.
The tarot card stuff got me to thinking: was Painkiller the first FPS to really have perks in it?
I remember enjoying Painkiller but I also played it years ago so I don't remember all that much about it.
It looks like THE game.

Tooth and tail looks pretty cool actually. Seems a bit simple for my taste though.
In episode 8, Alex took down Shadow Mario in Pinna Park, Abby conquered the Watermelon Festival, Vinny did some platforming in Noki Bay (the Shine Dan had shot a bird instead of getting), Dan coincidentally shot another bird, and finally he surfed quickly.
In episode 9, they went through roller coaster balloon hell (a level so frustrating that it immediately broke Abby and Dan thought it was bad) with Dan finally beating it, they got some red coins in Ricco Harbor with Vinny getting the Shine after Alex made a bad mistake at the last second, and finally Dan took down Shadow Mario again there to close things out.
I haven't been tracking actual shines gained from bets but Abby maintains the lead.

You could do worse as far as God of War clones go. If you love that genre and are cool with the aesthetic, it is worth a play-through, but personally I would go for Bayonetta 1 or 2 instead if you haven't played those.

It is your average hack'n'slash game. Play it only for these 3 things
1) Art direction
2) Atmosphere
3) Soundtrack
However, you could also get all that in a much tighter experience which is the anime.
pfft, Dante's Inferno. I feel like that was the game industry shaking off the last of what was the early aughts Fukkin Sikk rock and Xxxtremmmeeee aesthetic that permeated games like Twisted Metal and Painkiller.
It was fun. But prepare for a lot of boobs and dicks.
