Giant Bomb PSVR Launch Day Support Stream | Not what you're looking for

Still at work so haven't watched the stream, but it sucks their unit wasn't working right. I get most of my gaming impressions/news from Giant Bomb, so I'm sure they are a huge "influencer," in the parlance of today's gaming media. Man I was a skeptic about VR but my unit is working great and it's an awesome experience. It just sucks they and others are having shitty tech issues/faulty units. This could blow up in Sony's face if it's widespread ala RROD. I know I'm having a fine just sucks GB and crew and others aren't

Another 6 hours of PSVR? Is this worth watching if I already skimmed through the last one?

Skip the boring serious stuff and skip around to the funny quirky games. Human Loader was a funny segment, and the miku/idolmaster games lead to some amusing shenanigans. The party game segments were neat.

That is, unless you're just watching for VR impressions, in which case meh, it's the same deal. Spotty IQ, tracking issues here or there, solid launch lineup software wise, skip driveclub it's half baked. There, I saved you 6 hours.

PlayStation VR Launch Day Special
We check out the best of the rest of PlayStation VR like Rez Infinite, Headmaster, Rigs: Mechanized Combat League, and more!

It's all worth watching. When they were playing some boring games, they had some good conversations.

Which is usually the case.

I don't skip around in those launch streams. Even if the games are boring, that's why those streams exist in the first place. It's about showing what you're getting for your money if you decide to get the product at launch, if something is boring it's just boring.

"I got some motion sickness but this headset is totally fine"

"They have experience with VR so they are obviously jaded when talking about a VR product that is competing in this space"

They had problems, they pointed out those problems. Seems pretty simple to understand but no, they are the problem not the product. I guess having high expectations is a bad thing now. Everyone should amazed by this tech instead of critical.

Also, the idea that Dan "brands" Ryckert is a jaded person is hilarious.

I wonder if the bright green background might make it harder to track the lights on the move and headset? But then others have had issues so clearly something isn't quite right. GB are just a very visible manifestation of that

Can someone link me to the page that I can cancel my Giant Bomb subscription at? I can't believe how Jeff played The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls Viewing Revolution, how jaded can one person be? All he had to do was look at the happiness and excitement of the crowd, it's a breathtaking experience. He just completely dismissed it because he didn't know the light stick moves lol, like really dude lol? There are super easy just follow the beat of your heart and the music.

Lol relax man. It seems they just never heard any of those musics, nor attending any of their concerts. They completely blind about that.

If anything it should make it easier. The camera tracks orbs and markers through light intensity, color and shape. Having a uniform background with a unique and homogeneous color reduces the chances of having an object mistaken for a Move controller or a headset light.

Dear God, ace banana, proves once and for all the move controllers are worthless for vr which is kinda an issue considering that sort of control is essential for immersive vr experience.

This shit is useless till they release properly tracked controllers

lol GB threads on GAF are the best.

Some stuff looks cool, but the move controllers and lack of killer app are keeping me away. In the range of peripherals and gimmicks, it doesn't yet measure up.

Zapper > Wiimote > Kinect > Power Pad > U-Force > PSVR > Power Glove > Virtual Boy > R.O.B.

Once VR moves into Kinect-level -- meaning has a few good gaming applications, it may be worth it.

Good lord, this thread and the launch thread are like night and day. The Move controllers are perfectly fine for what the current games are asking of them.

The new Rez level looked fantastic and Headmaster looked fun, I liked the physics and sounds.

Nothing can beat that sinking seat though. Another classic GB moment.

Yeah it's a quite odd. I just played various demos for the past 4 hours in my living room. None of the twitching GB has experienced.

One thing was bothering me, and that was that Brad was continuously blocking part of the front LED light of the controller with one or both of his index fingers.

When distance and movement is calculated through the size of the lightbar in relation to the Playstation camera, it's not hard to imagine how the virtual representation of the controller gets messed up if it cannot read the lightbar correctly.

People will continue to insist that there is nothing wrong with giantbomb's setup despite the multitude of other journalists and hundreds of other user comments that they don't experience it.

The launch thread makes it sound so good i almost caved yesterday, but the closing comments in this steam was sobering, im gonna wait afew weeks at least and see some proper impressions when the dust has settled. But damn i want one of these things now if the pulsing issues with everything you see gets sorted out. (assuming its a global issue)

What do you even do in idolmaster? It seemed like you waggle the glow sticks to the music along with the crowd but there was no scoring or indication that you were doing anything right or wrong. Is it just an experience?

Apologies in advance cause I haven't really been following the GB guys, but are they all using one set of hardware or are there a few. Did they rule out that it's just a bad... whatever? Bad HMD, bad camera, etc?

Im not going to say GB is doing something wrong, because jeff geniunely sounds like they tried everything. But my ancedotal 1st day test run proved no problems.

Their experience and the launch thread are truly night and day.

It's not like GB are the only people having mixed experiences with it. Check out the /r/games thread if you want to see non-journalists having wildly different reactions to it.

It's is also good to remember that they have spent hundreds of hours on Vive and Rift. Especially Vive seems to be level above any other VR solution on tracking especially. I personally like Vive's small user experience polish points like rendering the controller in VR world.

In any case all these VR streams really have hammered it down to me that the software isn't there and the excitement will wear down quickly. Similar to Dan I was extremely excited for either Vive or PSVR, but now I've been convinced to just wait.

Some people in the launch thread are reporting the same issues GB had. Headset "swimming" back and forth, controller and headset angle drifting off center, etc.

I've been saying this forever. Sony should've just waited and watched Vive and Oculus hype crumble.

VR will succeed in the long run. There are too many compelling use cases in design for it to fail. No one will be pulling out as long as they're still in business.

Whether gaming will be one of those use cases is a different question. I remain skeptical, personally.
