Man the gamespot videoplayer sucks. I really hope that none of their bloated site design bleeds over, because Giant Bomb are way ahead of them on the UI side.

Well they still have dave and alexis with them, should be good hopefully.

What about that mike guy that used to do strat QL's with dave? Haven't seen him in forever.

I only skimmed the news thing, but did the underlying systems and stuff alongside Tested and Screened get sold to those guys instead of CBS? And if so, does that mean that GB is going to be changing its systems?

they already said GiantBomb is getting a complete redesign in the coming months.

They sold the tech to the other company because that company needed a experienced web design team and solid tech for expanding there business

CBSi already had there team and hopefully with Dave there it wont suck.

:(

They might as well have killed it, since I'm sure Norm, Will, and Rorie don't give a shit about anime.
Remember when people were talking about them launching a music site and a cooking site and so forth? Heady days. This company seems to be only interested in Tested, unfortunately.

Does anime vice have much competition? I know comic vine is as big as it is because all the other comic book sites suck horribly.
There's really only one big Anime website at the moment, and they also have an encyclopaedia. I can't imagine the new company wanting to invest in that site. Splitting off from the rest of the userbase pretty much means that AV is pretty much dead.

Hell, Jeff was using it for questions for Jar Time. I don't think he'll even do that anymore. :p

Will said on today's podcast that there's a good chance that they'll eventually do a podcast with Jamie and Adam to talk about the partnership and what each team's ambitions for the site is down the road.
Man, I hope they do that soon!

I remember a few years back when I theorized that the cause was some new manager(s) with a FOOBS mentality. That is, trying to pump up short-term revenue with very little understanding of the factors operating around the business. And yet, when I mentioned this theory I was called insane for not accepting the conventional wisdom that Eidos sent their stormtroopers down to the office to drag Gerstmann out. I guess this calls for an icalledit.gif.

Welcome to Tested with Jamie Hyneman, Adam Savage, and @willsmith...

...oh and Norman Chan too.

Fixed. Or...

Welcome to Tested with Jamie Hyneman, Adam Savage, Will Smith (Not the actor), and Norman Chan (Not the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority)...

Love this GIF, stolen from the Tested thread:

I am trying to download something from Twitch called Giant Bomb and Comic Vine are joining the CBSi Team even though I have no fucking idea what it is

It will be okay friend, everything's going to be okay.

The WhiskeyMedia account hub thing doesn't really tell you anything, do they do automatic resubs at the end of your current one? I bought a 1 year last July and am now wanting to make sure it doesn't try to charge me again this summer. Also does anybody know how to take off whatever credit card you used at the time? All the account hub allows you to do is apparently use a different one if you are wanting to extend your sub.... Though I guess this way they will always guarantee you never 'deleted it' so they can still sell your CC info/name/etc. This is as confusing and as big of a pain in the ass as cancelling XBL Gold seems to be.

I'm down with new people. Davison seems pretty alright.

People always complain about them omitting various genres of games from their coverage. More people means more coverage. Klepek seemed to bring a lot of video coverage of handheld games to the site the past few months, and I'm sure some of the Gamespot editors will do the same. Just the other day people were posting things like "Why even do a Street Fighter x Tekken Quick Look if they don't know how to play it well?!" Maybe Gamespot has a fighting game loving editor who can help them out in the future like Rorie did with Dark Souls.

It doesn't really matter to me, since I'm mostly on board with Giant Bomb because of the personalities of the crew, but to those people who have complained about lack of/poor coverage in the past the possibility of the other staff dropping by should be good news.

I agree! Except when Davison bails out of this position inevitability too , but until then, I'm on board with my Giant Bomb support. Jeff is a guy to trust.

This will happen and it makes sense for it to happen. The Mythbusters are the big names.

True but they're not the names I give a shit about. I've heard of Mythbusters but have never seen it here (the UK).

Great opportunity for Will and Norm, and happy for them, but I'm sad for the site as I liked the autonomy of the guys there. But obviously I'll give the site a chance and hopefully it just becomes more awesome

Just listened to Jeff&John's talk.

Jeff was kind of an important head-dude at Gamespot in 2007 and then after two non-9.0 review scores some business guys in suits who don't know shit about anything freaked out and fired him.

...

What I'm hearing is that if this merger had happened like...last year, Jeff would have been fired after his Mass Effect 3 review.

Then you heard wrong? The story isn't that crazy.

IDK. Who knows where we'll be 2 years from now, but I don't see ANY reason to be cynical about this. I mean, its Giantbomb.

If I'm remembering right he's been with four different outfits in the past four years. At that point it's a pretty solid pattern.
True. it was 1up, whattheyplay, Gamepro and now gamespot, right?

lol, I didnt even know he was at gamespot until this morning. I've always liked John Davison since he was on 1up yours.

more like 4 years... but yeah... maybe. Not sure if EA is that pushy about review scores though.

So... people still do not get why he was fired. Man.

Hopefully when the Quick Looks come back, they are going to move away from Youtube/Twitch embeds. Having the last two videos, which are arguably the most important stuff they ever did, not archived on their own site is a mistake.

Same with Tested, there "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT" is just a YouTube embed.

Less than, "it's giantbomb", it's more that it's Jeff and possibly Ryan and whoever else sticks with him. Even when Jeff wasn't affiliated with any site he was still putting out videos and podcasts. He keeps saying it himself,

"Well, what else can I do at this point?"

If GiantBomb in name or function goes away, the people that made it what it was are not. As long as they keep doing dumb stuff in front of a mic, I'll probably listen.

1up was burning, so he left to found whattheyplay.com
whattheyplay.com was sold to IGN, apparently against his will
GamePro was close to dying - he left and they switched to quarterly, before shutting down completely
Then he ends up at CBS as a senior executive.

Unless CBS is going to shut down CNET/GameSpot sometime soon, I think he's fine.

You follow the people. At this point, the GB guys are really the only group of people that I would do that for.

Bingo! Although I'm not quite sure Jeff would ever just make a new start-up again, you can be sure that someone out there will happily employ him to just dick around in front of a mic.

Not trusting this guy after this long seems craaaazzzzy to me. Not agreeing with him, I can understand. :P

Besides, it could be worse - he could be working for IGN.

I think Jeff nailed it during the Davison interview when he said that as much as GiantBomb is a site about covering videogames, it's just as much (and maybe more) about being a pseudo-reality show about the dudes who run the site about covering videogames.

These guys have an audience that will follow them, much like actors and directors have audiences that will support movies just because of their involvement.

Bang on. The biggest appeal of GB for me, is that it doesnt really feel like a typical gaming site. I love watching the QL and TNT vids because they are just vids of a bunch of dudes sitting in a room together playing games

As long as they retain that feel (after watching the pancakes vid, I am convinced they will), the GB we all love will remain the same.
