Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

Yeah, that part was awful. They keep marketing games for those devs. I know everyone will jump on my back and say that if you are at GB, then you know where they stand, but it feels unethical when say, GB Panel say, tweet the Lang game so they keep making some lame ass accessory for it.

That is one serious peeve I have with the website.

Also, Drinking a breast Milk isn't that gross, and while we are on the subject, Spiders aren't that bad.
Enthusiast press being slightly too close to developers/PR is never going to change - they're not robots, professional relationships sometimes become personal. With that in mind, I much prefer Giant Bomb's approach of wearing their relationships on their sleeve, rather than other writers who fear a backlash should their socialising habits become known, and instead choose to act super cagey about it.

Exactly. Jeff was rightly super-critical in his Dance Central 3 review when the game wouldn't work.

The more I think about it, the breast milk thing shouldn't be that gross. Ryan should have owned his decision like it wasn't a thing and played it off like he just conned 200 bucks out of those fools.

I thought Jeff's reasoning was fine (what's the point of another hardware review telling you how busted the Kinect is) but considering their relationship with Harmonix, I can see how DC3's lack of review might rub some people the wrong way.

To each their own, you're either cool with what they do or not.

He could have made the video unlisted and just sent the link around to his friends, but still, that's fucking ridiculous. People on the internet are stupid.

I just watched the panel and...what the hell was that? Jeff's prediction that at PAX Prime they're just going to get up and stage and yell, "We're gonna get our dicks oooouuutttt!!" sounds fairly accurate at this point.

Yeah, I'm pretty surprised he didn't do the private thing. He has to know that GB has a rather.... devoted fanbase (says the poster in a thread devoted to the site), and odds are good that almost anything not locked down will be found at some point.

Frankly, I'm almost surprised that they haven't had people try hunting down their home addresses. I was kind of cringing during the GOTY stuff when they were showing more of Jeff's house because all I could think is how the crazies will use the footage to find him. Then again, that may have happened, but they gave it no mention/publicity in order to avoid encouraging the behavior.

I have to wonder if Alex has ever sat down and listen/watched any of the content hes in, because he does have problems with the way he presents himself. He's an extremely talented writer so he clearly has things worth saying, but right now he's too abrasive for myself and many others to listen to. Its likely that if he were to watch the recordings he'd pick up on certain quirks he has that rub people the wrong way. I know that watching videos of me talking has taught me a lot things about the way I talk and I can do to make people more comfortable.

Pretty sure Jeff got death threats with his home address on them back when he was at gamespot, I think he said Sonic fans were the worst for threats.

It's a shame that people are so dismissive of criticism because it comes from the "Internet". There are some legitimate things people point our as annoying about Patrick that would greatly improve the quality of quick looks and the bombcast if he took it to heart.

I hate to say I know this, but if you want to find out where someone lives you're going to find it out unless that person has been on a mission to hide it his entire life.

For a personality website I'd rather the personalities were themselves and not forced to put on a persona that's not them. It seems Patrick has took some criticisms to heart, and tried to change. At the same time many people have no problems whatsoever with Patrick. They are just not that vocal about it.

There were even idiots complaining that Patrick did 3 quick looks last week. When he did a fantastic, imformative quick look of Monster Hunter. He definitely put in the work to understand the game before jumping in. He played through some of Luigis Mansion so it was a no brainer to put him on. Then Walking Dead which is something right up his alley. He was the right candidate to sit in on those 3 quick looks, yet you still had idiots shitting nonsense out their mouths.

Sometimes you just got to ignore the idiots.

Divekick is awesome.

Watching it being played at that tournament with actual serious commentary from Ultradavid was fucking funny.

Shouldn't that have been a 4 panel web comic?

It was pretty much the video game equvilant of that to begin with. Then they showed it at EVO and it blew up. Then they got a publisher, funding, Dave Lang, and the whole thing spun out of control.

If you don't know the jokes being made in the game, it's okay. Once you play it, you'll get it.

It is actually pretty fun even if you aren't into fighting games.

Yea it looks fun! I'm not a hardcore fighting game guy by any means. I watch evo yearly and thats about it. I can totally see how this game could be a blast though. Everything Dave Lang was saying about it looks to be true. Yea its a bit of a joke in some ways, but saying
The game is 99% meta commentary on competitive fighting games. If you're not in on that joke, then it isn't really worth much to you.
is a bit ridiculous.. I mean I understand what you're trying to say, I just think this game will be fun for everyone.

Patrick's interview with the Metro creator sounds pretty interesting. I have the first one in my steam account but I'm pretty sure my computer is no capable of running it.

Geeze, you can tell Alex misses being a regular part of the crew. Dude tried to get the most out of every word he spoke.

Has he always lived on the east coast or did he used to be with them in SF?

Plus the salt when some of the guys lose LOL.

I've never seen UltraDavid that salty, especially when he was talking to Floe

So... was that breast milk from Harmonix or some random dude?

seems it was a random dude (assuming that whole thing was not a stunt).

He was with them before he went to work at Harmonix, then he moved back, then he went to NY.

He didn't go to PAX.
