Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

I love how one vague tweet has created so much thread angst.

No kidding. He could've been playing a game from five years ago for all we know. No reason to believe it's an unreleased game.

We now know the game in question is SimCity - the Bioshock: Infinite fans can rejoice (I'm very excited to get my hands on that game)!

Were there games like this before the Trials-specific-developer made them?

I remember playing Elasto Mania (2000) and X-Moto (2005) a few years back, and I'm sure there are even earlier examples.

Watching UPF, I thought it was interesting that either Brad or Patrick express that they didn't seem to "get" Trackmania, at least not until Jeff went into more detail about what he likes about it. Trackmania seems to me like it's very much in the same vein as Trials, Joe Danger, etc.

... Really? Unless dude is talking about something like Tropico that's pretty much it

I don't think you quite understand the conversation that was being had a couple hours ago. Yes, the conversation Jeff had with Alex this morning was regarding SimCity. No, I don't think that conversation with Alex is proof that the game Jeff rage-quit last night was SimCity.

I'm not sure why exactly that twitter conversation is undeniable proof the game in question was SimCity, but whatever.

Alex Navarro's explicitly mentions SimCity - but even if he didn't, the context would clearly indicate this game.

It's as much proof as you are going to get for now: We'll certainly hear more about it on the podcast.

Not proof, no, but now it's enough to make the reasonable assumption that it was SimCity.

... Gasp...

Honestly, I was not, I just read the twitter cap. I'm not sure why it's important to know which game though..

Trials QL was kinda disappointing for how much they complain about it being a ripoff of Trials on xbox. Having played both games Freestyle is almost only like Trials in name alone. Trials Evolution is a lot more difficult and hangs it's hat on that where as Freestyle focuses on time trials and the speed checks, high jump, and long jumps. Having beat Freestyle on the Vita it doesn't even come close to being as difficult as Evolution. Also the maps show up again because they change the objective in the maps. The one with the ghosts are time trials and the others are about scoring high on the speed check and jumps.

Holy shit you guys.

I mean really.

C'mon Brad. A highly respected, highly followed game reviewer tweets that he rage-quit a game (which we assume isn't out yet or else why would he keep the game's name secret) and we're in March when tons of highly anticipated games are coming out, you don't expect people to speculate on which game it was?

Operation Summon Brad is complete.

Now what do we do?

The problem is we live in a world where preorders are so highly incentivized, especially financially on PC, that finding real information prior to launch is very useful. Unfortunately, those who have early access to these products can't say shit so we're left picking through tweets to try and figure out if a game is a complete disaster. If it wasn't for the 20-25-30% discounts, I wouldn't even consider preordering. I probably shouldn't even consider those offers and just wait for the inevitable price drops months from now but hey, I'm human, I want to join in early on sometimes.

I agree 100% with this statement.

<3 GB but I would agree this is really something to talk about.
Is there a particular reason why the on-site video player is so terrible? It's borderline unwatchable for me in both progressive and streaming.
I would have no idea, try different browser?
For me video player works 99% of the time just fine.

There's plenty or reason to eye roll at some of the things that go on in this thread, but when a prominent game reviewer says he has to rage quit a very high-profiled, AAA game I think it really bears discussion. Sounds like a lot of his gripes coincide with the Arstechnica preview.

mmmm this quote does worry me A LOT :(
Chase works for the PR company representing said game. A quick glance at Access Communications' client list ( http://www.accesspr.com/clients/current/ ) reveals 2k and Irrational.

Of course, this could just be one super irritating part, but this worries me a bit about a game we all have irrationally (pun intended) high hopes for.
Come on again In Levin we trust !

He can not let us down :(

From Yeff's Tumblr:

Anonymous asked:do you think it's possible that EA will ask for money in exchange for larger city area in SimCity?

Considering that the game seems to barely be able to keep up with the various simulations its running at the current city size, I doubt it.

That doesn't sound like great praise.

this is like the time jeff wrote that he couldn't remember anything about a halo game during a preview and then thought people were crazy jerks because they hypothesized that the halo game might not be very memorable then
