Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

Blizzard doesn't send out games early, and even if they did, you couldn't play them.
Maybe I missed you guys talking about it or something, but an extended HotS stream when the game comes out would be pretty neat.

I kept thinking of PlayStation All Stars during the rip off trials quick look. Couldn't help it.

I expect Brad "Son of Aiur" Shoemaker to do some extensive HotS coverage. Seems like a great opportunity to leverage that CBS esports interest for another GB road trip. The IEM finals at CeBit are right around the corner... :D

So huh..not to add oil to the fire but there's a new Sessler Something video up and he talks about the game he was raging about on Twitter this week-end.

He can't name it but he received it on friday and the embargo is up on thursday this week... Hmmm, so I guess it could be Sniper Ghost Warrior 2, God of War or Starcraft.

My bet is on GoW.
Sessler said it was during a "combat sequence" that he was playing on the couch with a controller. Sounds like GoW to me too, although I can't imagine a GoW game having any sequence that hard in it...those games aren't known for crushing difficulty...

God of War has always had some random difficulty spikes, the room with the floor that drops out, the flaming Cerberus battle in III that *long, rambling line of expletives* Keep in mind I always play them at the highest difficulty available at the start. Forget the changing names.

Telling someone to go read Stallman is probably not a good way to make them consider your argument seriously, the guy is off the deep end.

In general, I don't get why people continually jump to the conclusion that we endorse an idea or viewpoint just because we discuss it. It's just food for thought, dude. Regardless, even if Urban Trial isn't actionable, it sure is crass.

That RMS part was just a joke because you actually referenced him in the UTF quick look, you probably don't remember it now. :-/
(you also said he uses Facebook, which is crazy. The guy would never use a service like that - he doesn't use cell phones to protect his privacy)
.

Anyway, it's a shame UTF didn't do more to differentiate itself presentation-wise. It reminded me of some Gameloft games that are actually pretty good mechanically but severely dragged down by a completely generic and derivative presentation. But it's not like that's a new thing, take EA MMA, Dante's Inferno, DOTA 2, modern military shooters (like Battlefield going from a unique campaign in the original Bad Company to a complete Call of Duty ripoff in BF3). The big publishers do the exact same thing - "we want our version of that game", they simply put more money into differentiating it more in superficial ways.

Unless the new one is broken (wich wouldn't be necessarly that surprising).

Ha, sorry, totally forgot about that. It may have been a quote Linus Torvalds posted on FB, I can't remember the specifics.

Crossing my fingers Patrick catches the MonHun bug with Tri Ultimate later this month. Sometimes it's just cool to have at least one interested guy on the crew to carry the torch.

Double TNT? Patrick + Brad Muir doing Monster Hunter and Brad "4gate all day" Shoemaker on HotS duty?

Be still my beating heart.

I tried to get into Monster Hunter once by picking up whatever the latest PSP game was at the time. I'll try again with the 3DS, I guess, since I don't hate the guts out of playing 3D games on it like I do the PSP.

Unless you get that controller add on though isn't it pretty much the same control scheme?

I take pleasure in the fact that I had to stop and think for a while before I knew what "MonHun" meant.

That's what I'm afraid of. I have an XL, too, so no Frankenstick. The stick is at least nicer feeling than the nub. I have the demo downloaded, but haven't played it yet.

Etrian Odyssey doesn't really require grinding. Unless you don't explore and fill out the map, you can beat most of the encounters without grinding.

I only played the first one, and I explored and filled out the entire map and the FOEs would kick my ass without grinding. It wasn't even close.

Why do Jeff and Brad entertain the idea of Jury Duty at all, write a one sentence note or better yet - don't show up. All this civic minded-ness sets a bad example.

im with Vinny i just want to build a city in a large zone. the claustrphobic nature of sim city is disapointing.

Yeah I agree, honestly that quick look alone completely turned me off from buying Sim City. Small city sizes like that are a complete joke. Tomb Raider will have to keep me busy.

I'm with you. They pretty much restrict everything that I would want to do. I hadn't been following any of the beta stuff so this is pretty shocking to me. I was willing to accept the online only stuff, but this is just shit.

EO4 has much more FOEs, much more quests, (no more "go find a chesspiece thru arcane treasure hunting, here's a Fire Jar you coulda just bought with 800 Etrian Bucks), and the quests give XP. Thing is, some take that as "Hey, I got in my head there's no grinding, which I've stupidly written off then bought a dungeon crawler! My attitude can never make this go wrong!" and I'm trying to balance expectations and it's hard.

He finished 999, VLR, and Fire Emblem recently.

IT HAS BEGUN.

Welcome back to the winning team, Scoops.

Is there anyway to cancel an Amazon order if it has already shipped? Can I just refuse the package?

Really don't feel like Simcity is worth it even at the $40 i got it for.

Don't think so, you could return it and just eat the shipping (tho you could try calling UPS and tell them to return to sender? No idea if it'd work)
