Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

I wonder if that level of simulation makes enough of a difference to be worth it though.

It depends, I imagine on how willing you are to play the game the way they are kind of forcing you to play. I think the deep simulation is great but the compromises are a really really tough pill to swallow and a complete deal breaker for a ton of people. Personally, I feel like they weren't given the time to find a good balance and time to optimize what they had to be sure it worked in bigger cities because I have a hard time believing when the designers started the project that they intended to limit the size so drastically.

so you see that mixture of "well i guess it's okay" and extreme disappointment in the Sim City quick look?

Hold onto that feeling, Giant Bomb crew. This is how people feel about other franchises that get changed into shooters or "streamlined" into oblivion.

Now you know how it feels.

The Mac version doesn't run on anything that has Lion or newer on it.

There lies the problem. I would ove to dive into SimCity 4 but it doesn't run on my Mac and people mentioned that even the Windows version can be problematic on modern machines.

GOG.com sell SimCity 2000 for Mac. :)

I rolled my eyes at this post so hard that for a second I thought they were stuck there.

I'm not too knowledgeable about the SimCity situation outside of that Quick Look, but I do think it's something they should consider before they do things like mock people who show hesitation when it comes to things like streamlining Dark Souls.

What's so eye rolling about it? There's nothing more frustrating to see a franchise you really enjoy get taken in a direction counter to why you enjoyed it in the first place. Its even more frustrating when journalists say to "just don't buy it" or "they're not making the game for you."

Most journalists responses to anything of the such amount to: "Shut up, close your eyes, bend over and take it, or just walk away." As if there is no middle ground. It's functionally the equivalent of: "Shut up nerds, fuck off, you don't understand."

I like Giant Bomb because they constantly call out bullshit as bullshit.

Not sure what I was expecting but that EOIV quick look was disappointing. Patrick's insistence that the game is focused on grinding was a real shame. The game really isn't about grinding especially this one with how lenient the game is when it comes to resetting skills and levelling up alternate characters. I have no idea how anyone could have spent 4 hours grinding and not even entered the first real dungeon.

It's funny because Vinny seemed more able to get into the game without even playing, actually pointing out that hey, there are buttons in the battle menu that do stuff, maybe you should check what they do. The battles looked so slow in the quick look because I'm so used to just holding down the A button and speeding up all the animations/text.

Still it's great that Patrick even tried it. I doubt anyone else would have tried, including Vinny.

I wonder if the number of meetings Jeff's been apparently attending since the CBSi takeover, inspired this title.

They really went out of their way to make new Lara look like that shot of old Lara all the magazines used to market that game back then.

He's probably leaving... either that or he's probably going to some super secret preview event.
He'll rappel down from the ceiling halfway through the panel and then announce he's leaving and run out of the room.

I guess The New Releases Show is replacing I Love Mondays which I wouldn't mind. A longer show to discuss them rather than just listing them out in 5 minutes would be nice.
