Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

I thought Drew stole the show with his bit. The fact that he couldn't remember how he discovered the game was hilarious. I think he's better when he's trying to do a specific thing in a game, rather than just seeing what happens. Having said that, the Lego Island one was good too.

I found the Thief segment to be a little depressing.

The "Ikaruga" mechanic looked pretty neat, for what it's worth. They should have spun that through the whole game (I gather it's not introduced early on).

I haven't played the game since it came out, but I want to say that the actual mechanic is present for most of the game. It doesn't become necessary till the last third and is only crucial for two boss fights. I will readily admit that once I got comfortable switching between light and dark the game became both easier and more fun to play.

Man, I was kind of hoping Jeff and Vinny would QL the new baseball games(either one). They're always so much fun to watch. Guess it's tough though. So much is coming, and came out on that same day.

I would love to see them do a 2K13 quick look, if only because of how broken and awful it is.

I think the inherent problem with them doing the baseball games is that Jeff actually likes and watches baseball even if he doesn't play baseball video games.

Hey the New Release Show is the show playing on the Twitch.tv frontpage.

CBSi and Twitch have an advertising deal, I wonder if that was the whole reason for starting the show. It wouldn't work as well if the Gamespot guys had to present it alone as they don't seem to have the experience.

Bring on the merger!

Its only a matter of time before Jeff leaves giantbomb to become the head of all CBSi gaming sites.

He seems to be spending a significant chunk of his time in meetings anyway. Might as well take the pay rise and go all the way.

I'm not sure if the labeling on the site signifies in any major way to a merger. It seems more like GameSpot labeling the video to attract, y'know, GameSpot audiences.

Unless there's some conspiracy I'm not seeing.

Giant Bomb does a single weekly show with Gamespot, with each site branding it as their own content, and suddenly the sky is falling?

It makes no sense to have two distinct sites about the exact same subject. Gamespot will absorb GB and it will be a sad day.

Didn't they just spend months redesigning the entire site from scratch? Surely they wouldn't have bothered if they were just going to merge the two in the near future.

Honestly, I support more Gamespot involvement. If Jeff is okay with it, why shouldn't anyone else be? He's the one who was screwed in the first place.

I sometimes don't know if you guys are actually considering the merger happening seriously.

It's totally going to happen, but its always been a question of when and who would merge with who. Its unpractical from the perspective of an exec to maintain two different video game sites when you could channel the traffic of both to one place and generate even more revenue at a lower cost. I and others here understand that the two sites serve very different audiences, but data grabbed from both probably indicates that the people going to both site are more or less the same.

The redesign was done to get the site off of Whiskey's system and put Giant Bomb more in line with the way things are done at CBSi. It was probably done for legal reasons, but it actually makes a hypothetical merger easier to accomplish.

For me at least it is the case of Gamespot just being a crappy site for games coverage in general.

Dave said on multiple occasions that it's the whole CBSi team that was working on the GB/Comicvine redesign and that GS would get one too at some point.

And they were forced legally to restart to redo GB and Comicvine.

If a merger as to happen for them to keep jobs, the so be it.

But let us not ahead of ourselves here...one show being promoted on two sites isn't a big deal. By that logic Giantbomb is also in the business of localizing video games.

I don't mind the 'merger'/bringing gamespot guys over for content on GB. People complain all the time about how some games only get a cursory glance or nothing at all so if this helps expand the scope of content then long may it continue.

It makes sense because they are 2 completely different kinds of video game sites.

They will never merge because it makes no sense. And even if they did you think they wouldn't just go off and start a new company? As for all the GS hate i don't get it. I welcome crossovers and them doing shit together because it's more content and long as it's good content who cares? It seems like a lot of hate comes from the jeff firing that took place many, many years ago which had no effect on your life.

Jeff got over it so why the fuck can't other people? It's petty.

I suppose that does make sense legally. Still, I think Jeff has his finger on the pulse of his fanbase better than any other EIC around right now, I wouldn't worry about him letting shit fall apart or anything.

The entire reason people go to GB is for the staff personalities, not articles and news (sorry, Patrick). If you change that, what is the point?
