Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

Honestly I haven't really had much trouble with their video player. Other than the resume feature being incredibly janky sometimes it's been fine for me. I can use streaming now instead of progressive like on the old video player.

edit: huh, why did they remove I love Mondays on their frontpage?

I don't know man I've been trying to watch this Castlevania Epilogue for like 20 minutes and it should have been about 10 minutes

Switch to HTML5 if you have player issues. HTML5 quality is gorgeous. The Streaming option is terrible. Stuttery and crap quality even at HD settings.

I have problems with HTML5 too. It will randomly stop playing from time to time.

Youtube is really the only reliable player but then again they don't automatically upload to YT anymore (There's a bug with the new site and they need to manually upload the videos later) and you can't watch subscriber content.

What browser do you use? I use Chrome and HTML5 is flawless. Just started last week using this option and it looks amazing. Looks even better than Youtube's HD option. I watched the entire Friday show with no issues.

Subscriber content

Since you guys are subscribers, why don't you just download the videos and watch them via VLC? That's what I do all the time. You can even start watching the .part file while the video is downloading.

How do you HTML5? I can't see the option.
Just checked and I can't find it either. It was definitely an option on the old site. Maybe they didn't implement it yet.

You need to be a subscriber and be using a browser that supports HTML5 video (so no Firefox).

The old site would give you the option even if your browser didn't support it.

Wait what? I didn't even know that FF doesn't fully support html5 yet. Maybe I should switch to Chrome then. But I hate change, I'm so accustomed to FF. :-/

I download them straight to iTunes and have them stream o my Xbox😀

Guys, install Chrome and switch to HTML5. Just make Chrome your GB player for now. The HD quality is pristine and super crisp. Both the streaming and YT HD look blurry compared to it. I can never go back.

Well, what I said wasn't entirely accurate - technically it does support HTML5 video. But in an effort to stay truly opensource, Mozilla doesn't natively support the licensed H264 video codec.

The Mozilla foundation recently backed down though, and support will be added soon IIRC.

Can you skip directly to position reliably on HTML5? Also the fullscreen sucked for HTML5 on the old site, though I haven't tried it on the new site yet

Yeah. I use HTML5 all the time. I happen to be on Safari and not Chrome but same difference. been using it sine it was first offered at GB

Did the same thing for youtube. mainly because I don't want my laptop fans to spin up and my computer to get superhot running the flash plugin. with the HTML5 player, the laptop runs cooler and battery life doesn't drop like a rock. obviously this is less of a issue with desktops.

For some reason HTML doesn't work at all at work (and yes I'm on Chrome). I hit play and nothing happens.

Youtube works fine but the pin and gear icons that they added to the youtube player stay on screen even when the youtube bar goes away.

Edit: OF COURSE Drew's whole family is scuba diving certified hahahaha.

Hmm, was just about to start up HotS but I can't pass up a LIVE SLEEPY DAWGS QL. These are the tough decisions.
