It seems like there is a huge jump in the difficulty of Normal and Classic.

I agree. I didn't find the game challenging at all on Normal. I mean, it was tough at the beginning before I learned about all of the units and abilities, but I ended up only losing one dude during the campaign. The last few hours, I was pretty much on cruise control.

I tried classic afterward, but kept getting smoked on the first or second mission. Huge jump in difficulty.

Anyway, I really liked the game, but I guess it just didn't resonate with me as much as other people. It seems so many individuals and sites are giving it game of the year or close to it. There were just too many technical issues (PC version), as well as a lack of variety in the game for it get that much praise from me. Maybe if it hooked me and I played through classic ironman or something my opinion would be different, but not with just a playthrough on Normal.

Having played more of the game now, I understand why they gave it GOTY, I'm just confused how it won so unanimously. The AI could be smarter, the sightlines are absolutely awful, there should really be more council missions, etc. It's pretty unacceptable that they don't give you any way to know if you'll have a shot on an enemy before you commit to moving there when the sightlines are so fucked. I've had a squadshot sniper get into positions with what looks to be a clear shot on a couple guys, and get nothing. I've also had guys able to shoot through huge rocks or walls. It makes no sense at all. Maybe I'll change my mind a bit when I start a classic game. I've also seen some weird shit like cars exploding out of nowhere criting two of my guys. TWD vs XCOM would have been an interesting debate if anyone had really gotten behind TWD.

stopped listening to bombcast 2012 podcasts as soon as they said they would do spoilers and started spoiling Walking Dead. I find this quite unproffesional actually since many other have been able to discuss 2012 without spoiling games.

Are there many spoilers in the end of year podcasts?
Will I ever be able to listen to them?

Do we have a list of what games are spoiled?

They don't hold back with the spoilers during the GOTY podcasts, it would be rather hard to talk about specifics without spoilers.

You probably shouldn't listen to the GOTY podcasts if you are worried about spoilers, but if you want to listen to them regardless, there is a thread on the Giant Bomb forums with timestamps of the spoilers.

Chili day was also a great episode.

Also that 4-5 week run during the summer when Patrick was out was great. Not because Patrick wasn't there but because everyone else seemed to be "on it" during that month.

I find it unprofessional that you don't just play the game right now. Hand in your gamer card.

Do what I did, stop the podcast, buy all the episodes and play them. Then continue the podcasts.

You'll thank me later. Don't miss out on a great game.

I have the walking dead already

I just have had no time to play it. It is drowning in my Steam library of 449 games out of which I have not played (to completion) at least 400.

God I am sick of people crying about spoilers especially after a game has been out for a couple of months.

I don't care. Personally I want frank discussion about games. Not walking on eggshells in case they upset someone.

Spoilers are fine the week after release if it's clearly stated and you have time to switch off.

The only time spoilers are unacceptable are when Brad's a moron and just blurts it out and there's no warning anywhere.

So get a grip on reality and realize you're never going to play it. Now you can listen to the podcast. They spoil it a nice way that you get the same enjoyment as if you played it yourself, especially when they share how their playthroughs differed. Too bad you can't get a refund.

Oh god, then don't fucking listen. They gave a perfectly reasonable warning at the start. They are talking about the best games of the year, of course spoilers are going to come up when they are talking about moments, stories, characters, etc. that affected them. I suppose you want them to be incredibly vague and talk about essentially nothing the entire time?

Sick of the whining about spoilers...

Agreed, hell half the time spoilers make me want to play a game more since you usually miss the context as well as the build up to what's being spoiled anyway.

I was listening to the GOTY podcasts recently and had to repeatedly take my headphones off as they had a tendency to go into spoiler territory without warning.

It was really annoying

This is a joke post right. Or are you new to the bomb crew? New to the bombcast? Don't understand English??????????????????????? Did you magically skip the first 10 mins of the first cast where they tell people like you to not even bother listening?

I know they warned us but I thought they would signpost stuff like they usually do. To be honest I wasn't really spoiled on much (so far) because the only big games I haven't played on that they were going all out on were assassins creed and far cry 3

I respect that they need to have a frank discussion but they should at least be a little considerate and flag that shit

I've pretty much stopped caring about game spoilers when I realized i don't like most game stories. It feels good.

Lol real talk. I had predicted TWD's ending to a tee before they got into it. What else could possibly happen that would be "shocking" or "new". Why I'm kinda surprised at people liking the plot so much. The writing, ok, but the story? Patrick admits himself it's one trope after another.

ME3's ending actually didnt sound that aggregious. Not that I'd ever play that crap anyway.

The idea of the GOTY podcast is to give people a chance to listen in on their deliberations. Ideally, they ignore that they are even recording, which isn't quite the case but the way the conversation flows, stopping to warn for individual spoilers would hurt the discussion.

Always, when it comes to GOTY podcasts, do not listen at all if you are sensitive to spoilers and haven't finished games that you do not want spoiled. Next year, it would probably be best if that was highlighted in the thread title.

I know they warned us but I thought they would signpost stuff like they usually do.

Direct quote from 2:39 into the first GOTY podcast:

"We are going to be openly talking about games here. There's no safety, there's no rules. We're not gonna sit here and say 'we're going to talk about the ending of this,' we're just going to talk about the ending of this. And any game that came out in 2012 or prior, the whole history of games leading up to this moment is fair game for open, frank discussion."

I don't know how much more clear they could possibly be.

Yeah I pretty much can't listen to anything from these podcasts since I have had a lot happen recently that prevented me from finishing games like me3 or TWD or Fry Cry 3 which came out like only 2 weeks ago. I also don't want to spoil the game of the year winners too so I can't watch the videos. I'm pretty much fucked.

They say straight up that they are going to spoil things and for discussing goty stuff that's fine. They have to talk about that shit. Otherwise you get what happened during the 2009 goty deliberations where Brad told the rest of the crew about the ending to Silent Hill Shattered Memories off mic and that game ended up winning in its category. When the point of these podcasts is to be transparent about how they pick their goty winners dancing around spoilers is not the way to go about it.

They warn you on episode fucking 1 it's a free for all with spoilers.

Jesus you guys complaining about spoilers in the GOTY podcasts are thick.

i concur. they warned everyone and if anyone complains, you didn't listen to them. besides, they've been spoiling games in every GOTY podcasts for years. if you're spoiled, you have yourself to blame.

I remember the time I avoided listening to chunks of podcasts last year because I wanted to avoid potential spoilers for Catherine. Imagine my surprise when the game played out like I thought it would, and all of the things they discussed in those segments were things I already figured I knew. Good times, good times.
