Giant Bomb Vive stream | What a Time to Be a Vive!

The robot is just fucked at all times.

I think it is broken due to how interleaved projection being enabled by default fucked a lot of software built on Unity. A bunch of devs were scrambling to fix a bunch of shit that broke when it was just dumped into SteamVR back on the 25th.

With how much they seemed to enjoy that game Jeff only saying he "might" go back to that game is pretty damning.

I think if he got a hang of the mechanics, he might enjoy it a bit more. The fundamentals are really interesting but super basic., like most VR stuff is currently.

There is a real disconnect between their reactions while playing and their statements somehow.

He was pretty clear about explaining that getting geared up for a somewhat fun but shallow title hasn't worked for him as he has had VR systems for a long time connected continually to his PC. So most of the time what he is saying is actually making a ton of sense. Its just lacking a lot of the hyperbole alot of people see during new product releases.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that something can be fun to mess around with when you first do it, but when you think about playing it on your own or a second time, not being excited about that prospect.

A lot of it just seems like a one off experience that is 'neat' without much depth after the initial fun.

Makes me wonder if he usually likes games like that? For example, a person who is not very in to fighting games would play for 20 minutes and then never play again.

I mean, I know it's a shooter but it doesn't exactly feel "fair" to refer to it so simply.

Just thinking out loud.

This gives it some perspective, yeah.

Yeah, but the point is that this statement is about a game that he hasn't even grasped completely its mechanics while playing for some good minutes. That's not a shallow game.

Apparently it's good enough for people to juggle the physical controllers while viewing them in VR.

Leaning would working, but constantly leaning forward isn't a comfortable thing to do. I mean, stand up and try it. Would be awkward to lean forward and aim a weapon, or swing a sword, as well.

Additionally, leaning for movement makes leaning to peak around things either require a button press or removes it entirely. The latter being a no-no in VR.

yeah i think thats why you should trigger it with a held button on whatever controller. "hold to move", lean, player walks, release, stop.

yes Golem, thats the one. the lean didnt seem too pronounced. don't think they use a button though.

gotta say... Hover Junkers doesn't seem that fun to me, maybe its different when you play it. seems glitchy as fuck when you duck down.

He is giving his initial, first blush impressions of it. It clearly didn't grab him enough to want to devote more time to it. That's part of the job.

$800 to play numerous archery mini games and physics tech demos?
I thought Vive was suppose to be the "premium VR experience", SMH.

Yeah my feeling too, which is what I was saying earlier in the thread. These are fun to watch, but actually convince me to just hold off on VR more than anything. I can live vicariously through GB and others for as long as needed.

i just caught myself thoughtfully regarding the light fixture in my future VR room and wondering if i can get some sort of cable boom up there ;)

the cord... that damn cord

Technically it is. And it will allow for experiences you can't have on say a PSVR.

But the games and expriences aren't there yet, and they won't be for a while, IMHO.

Except for occulsion and things behind you, 2 move controllers could play those games.

Hoverjunkers - yes.
Audio game with shields - yes.
Pirate trainer - yes as long as its 180 degrees in front of you.

But I dont think Sony will go beyond standing with 2 x moves (accidents and law suits lol)

Hopefully that high-bandwidth low-latency wireless video transmission tech works out, because that would indeed solve so many issues. Wouldn't mind at all having to wear a "battery belt" if it meant losing the tether entirely.
