Giant Bombcast - 11/17/15

i forgot to mention one of my favorite moments when jeff likens the sc2 archon mode to being the pacific rim of real time strategy.

Back in my day we played games like Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament and we didn't have these newfangled unlocks and progression systems and we liked it!

Yeah but UT and Q3A had 10 unique weapons and a shit load of maps. And mutators!

UT had 4 free map packs and user made maps and mods to keep it going.

I think people lose perspective on how expensive these things are to create.

What does people enjoying it have to do with critical analysis of video game design by professionals? There are plenty badly designed games that people enjoy.

Game design is inherently in service of creating enjoyable experiences so its absolutely relevant to any subjective critical analysis of a game. I have no idea what you think a "badly design" game is but if other people are enjoying it then I imagine that there are aspects of its design that are actually not as bad as you think.

Now if what you really want is for this personality driven website to strip out all their own experiences and feelings to discuss games with an objective approach, then you're missing the entire point of the podcast.

Well it was their choice to prioritise the insane graphics over more maps.

I think Brad's feelings on FO4 reflect my own pretty well. I've been doing what I tend to do in Fallout games and just explore, but the world feels so empty up north. Maybe it is time to finally make my way to Diamond City.

It definitely gets a lot better when you go further south.

I agree mostly with what they say about Fallout 4. Although despite what Jeff said, there's a ton of little story stuff out there that makes the world fill lived in. Almost every dungeon type area has its own little story.

The way Dan was trying to frame the problem with Battlefront's lack of variety as a problem of a simple progression system was weird. I don't see how gating the elements of the game differently would be any better. Jeff saying he got bored of Titanfall after he got the weapons he wanted was weird as well. That's when the game really starts thanks to the shitty unlock system in every game now.

sunshine probably doesn't hit the top 50, no.

damn blue coins. give me sunshine hd and fix that shit, nintendo. fuck twilight princess.

You can't fix that without straight up making new levels to fill the gaps they tried shove blue coins into.

It's not the user's job to care about that.

Witcher 3 looked the way it did with a massive world, 80 hour campaign, and then gave another 10-15 hour campaign for $9.99.

It would be cool if the stupid names didn't take priority over so many common ones, but whatever, it's a dumb little one-off thing, anyway.

My Vanessa wasnt recognised ;_;

The only place I've found salvagable stuff in the bushes is outside concerts. I don't think I want anything from bushes not out front of concerts; thats shit people WANTED to part with.

I get the negativity for the microtransaction system in MGSV and I think people should be critical of it, but hearing the guy's email that the offline mode doesn't exist anymore makes me wonder if people actually believe the FOB stuff is necessary in any way. I put 65 hours into the game in offline mode and just got to the "true ending" last weekend and never touched the FOB. It didn't take any extra time or effort, you just play through the game normally offline and get to see all the story content the game has to offer.
