Mario Kart World - Nintendo Direct announced for tomorrow (April 17, 6 AM PT/9 AM ET). It will be 15 minutes long.

My dear 10yo, us Mellenials, who are already close or already in our 40s, grew up with Nintendo and Sega, we buy their games to play them ourselves, the fact that my kids like them is just the cherry on top.

Stop acting like my kid on his edgy/emo phase, it's cringe.
Sorry you never grew out of your kid phase.

looks fun, and there are missions in the world with those hidden P buttons -- hard to tell but I get the sense that they'll activate different kinds of challenges when you find them, not just blue coin runs
Eh, they talked about them as driving skill building challenges. I'm sure it will be more than just blue coins, but I don't think they'll be fleshed out missions. In BotW terms, they'll be more substantial than korok seeds but less than shrines.

that's about what I expected -- various mini-runs like some combination of: blue coins; series of gates with timeouts; special skill (rail-ride all the way to objective; use only wall rides through a section, etc); generic "get to the goal" (maybe a beacon in the distance with you figuring out fastest path to reach it before timeout), etc

We do? Mario Kart 8 Deluxe runs 30fps in split-screen on Switch, and supposedly Mario Kart World runs 30fps in split screen on Switch 2.

No way they'd be able to port it to Switch(1) and keep it in a playable state. 30fps alone is already questionable for a racer.

They made Kingdom Come Del and Witcher 3 run on it, silly. Come on now.

Of course it depends on where you draw the line. Anything will run. I doubt they'll port it with split screen running 10fps though.

Switch (1) can probably run GTA 6 as well at 2fps 240p.

Good luck getting your Switch 2 next week. Hope your mom lets you use her card!

my guy, your recent post history is 90% "Nintendo if for children".
that's borderline a mental disorder at this point. it's like your angsty teenage self still trying to cope with puberty, desperately trying to project maturity to others.

My dude I simply said the game looked like a good kids game and got harassed by grown man children. Sorry my opinion offended you.

I've really struck a nerve with this dude. Never said Nintendo games aren't fun, they are just for kids. Sorry that upsets you so much.

Millennials are old enough to have been Nintendo fans, grown out of it and made fun of younger Nintendo fans, then become Nintendo fans again after emerging from the teenage phase.

Well from perspective of person who dont play games at all, to them all video games are for kids.

Also I play games to have fun and yes feel like kid again.....I have loooong past that age of trying too hard to be "mature".

Too many people want to act like Captain Hook meanwhile I am the eternal Peter Pan.

Though I find it cute when they all like hurr hurr Nintendo is the kiddy console and games are for kids, yet it's the only place for the likes of Xenoblade where it's all real deep shit.

Or Kirby being cute on the surface but dark as all hell at it's core.

Because they have very shallow idea what "maturity" is and only thing they can think of is being "mature" is all about playing games with gore & blood and realistic graphics.

It's a hyperfocus on that shallow view and high fidelity. Yet many are so surprised when things are too clean or too pretty that it feels hollow or fake. But it's really the better graphics or tools are available but most don't know what to do with them. If you are an engineer or an artist and don't know how to utilize these tools then you won't create anything at all. Nothing on a emotional or thought provoking level. It's why visual storytelling alongside art direction is King.

And a lot of games focus heavily on visuals but lack the art direction or completely forget about the story that they want to tell if there is one at all. One only need to see the current Remake culture of games we have where in many cases the gameplay is more accessible but it's largely a retread with a lot of it's soul and context sucked out.

Fromsoft and Zelda games for example tells it's story in it's finely crafted worlds that you piece together. More often then not the big boss is a very small component of the larger picture.

Same thing with a lot of Survival Horror games. There is the current situation the Protagonist is in but there's also all the lore pieces that tell another story on how everything led up to that moment. A story within a story.

In regards to this game I imagine the game world will tell us much about the Mushroom Kingdom and how it is set up even more then it ever has been before.

I am confused on this. Is there no pure track racing like on MK8D? I thought they showed hubs were we race around a certain number of laps.

Is this incorrect?

I think, by default, you race from track to track, then race once around each track. You can make custom games with 3+ laps, but I don't know how sharable that is: friends only? hosted lobby?

I haven't played it, obviously, but I wish they'd bump the number of laps in default up to 2 at least. I get that the more laps you add, the more of a time investment it is, but still.

Here's hoping for a classic mode somewhere down the line.

Grand Prix mode - Your standard Arcade Racing format I believe.

Knockout Tour - You start at a race track and drive across the overworld to the next race track. It's like a marathon race.

Yeah don't worry. Be happy. IT's the first new MK for a Nintendo platform in nearly 11+ years.

And $80 means they put some extra $$$ into it.

maybe it turns out meh. But I'm excited to find out. Worst case I pawn it off for $50 or whatever months later.

I didn't watch the Direct on purpose. I don't like to hear too much about games before I buy them. It spoils them some. Or it is more fun to be surprised.

Yeah, that's how it seems to work. Here's footage of the Star Cup from Treehouse:

It's pretty much the same as usual but you seem to do a normal 3 lap track around the first course, and then the remaining three courses are basically the equivalent of Mount Wario from Mario Kart 8 (continuous).

This looks like a fun video game that I will enjoy in the way that I used to enjoy video games. The autistic guy in this thread screeching about how it's FOR KIDS is a weirdo mutant.

Meh. If I could have Diddy Kongy Racing or MK World. I'd rather have MK World. It looks to be doing way more things mechanically and socially and the "hundreds" of missions and collectibles easily make up for DKR's extra balloon collectibles etc.

Not saying DKR wasn't great for its time or even still good today, but MK World is easily light years ahead in terms of what's it's doing in size, scope, and scale.

Nostalgia is very powerful.

Goldeneye for example is lauded, and back in the day I had many hours of fun on it. I've played it recently though, amd it's shit, and no, it's not just the dated graphics which can be overlooked to an extent.

I still have a lot of fun rushing through the dam and facility levels once in a while. This and PD are still the only FPS games I can actually enjoy playing from the couch without a mouse. I don't even really mind the graphics.

Of course the Switch or Xbox versions don't count and completely suck. Couldn't finish the first level there.

They don't need to justify anything. MK8 sold over 70m copies for 60 dollars each, has a 92 metacritic, and has consistently charted in the top 10 game sales and often much higher each week for the last almost decade. I refuse to check but it is probably the highest selling Nintendo game of all time if you don't count pack ins and maybe even if you do.

If there was ever a game that didn't need to justify a higher price tag vs other games, it's Mario Kart and Grand Theft Auto.

This is to show people who are Nintendo/Mario Kart fans what the game will be like.

Also, if you buy the bundle the game is only 50 dollars, lol. EVERYBODY who buys Switch 2 should also buy this game so there really is no excuse to play 80 dollars for it. Just buy the bundle and get it for 50 dollars, cheaper than even MK8 is today. Reread that last sentence carefully as it is very important and relevant here. There is no reason at all not to buy the bundle and get this game for 50 dollars. If you tell me "I'll buy the console today and MK later" NO, just save your money and buy the bundle. This is why rich people keep being rich. Be wise with your investment and get the game via bundle for a mere 50 dollars. Your arguments are as weak as well water.

I can recommend someone if you need it.

Nope according to Nintendo fiscal year report total sales of Switch bundles with MK8D is less than 10%.

Those bundles are very limited in quantity, country like Japan where it sold over 8m units didn't have a single MK8D bundle.
