Giant Bombcast - 12/01/15 - Beast Meets West

I like him, but he gets cunty a LOT of the time.

He does believe being cynical about certain topics will most likely and accurately reflect reality, and i can't really argue that. He's a journalist and writes so he has to show what's actually up in the real world instead of giving non-sourced comments or hopes that will most likley shatter from his point of view.

Still not through the entire bombcast but having another beastcast on friday just made my week already.

WTF? Why some of you making Austin out to be this party pooper who goes on angry rants every time he speaks? He's a chill guy.

You're really going overboard. I just said he's cunty a lot. That's all. You can like cunty people yet still recognize their cuntiness. And you can be chill and cunty.

Austin is a fun jovial guy. Some people have a strange impression of him just because of the way he speaks. He suffers from the same issue that Alex and Tricky went through with some listeners.

Yeah not sure I get it. Dude is always cordial.

The words that you are typing, are you actually reading them?

Austin is pretty cool, I have no idea what you are referring to. Seriously would be the last GB member I would refer to as that.

You can be both! He just has a weenie attitude sometimes. I said I liked him. What more do you Austin stans want?

I think it's fair to point at the recent youtube fair use discussion and how, "they don't get it" when GB literally made a successful business out of doing precisely what he said they don't get and say he gets a little salty in unnecessary ways sometimes.

The Bestcast would be nothing without Austin. He's the best.

And his dismissal of Dan when he said he didn't know what zero-sum was on this podcast was brilliant. It was the simplest interaction but I burst out laughing.

He also had the best Extra Life segment.

yea, that was one discussion where he seemed to be bit pissed about it but he explained why which made it more understandable. I liked Vinny questioning his reasons for being so critical about it. I even pointed it out in that Beastcast thread.

I dunno, it just seems kinda shitty to handwave it and dismiss Dan instead of explaining it to him. It's a learning opportunity.

I've never once listened to the Premium Bombcast despite being a sub for over a year

The ads are hilarious. They're probably the only media outlet that does ads in a way that their community actually likes them

Same here. I actually never watch the premium videos either, just subbing to support them.

... That can't count as "salty." Having a disagreement, and not folding to the other side just to avoid potentially making people uncomfortable isn't "salty"

Even if it were, when has that happened elsewhere? Anytime I've seen people complain about Austin, it is always made up of general and vague points, as if they can't articulate why they are uncomfortable with what he says.

Then you have trash like the "cunty" idiocy above posted, and you're left with a notion that he's unfavorable floating around, but with absolutely nothing to back it up.

Had he explained it, ther ewould be people here saying he's being condescending or "I don't listen to GB for this (i.e. being made to think)."

I've been following Austin since 2013 with the stream friends channel and he's just the best. He's strikes a great balance of being serious and critical with being jokey in the GB way. It's something the site needs in order to evolve and expand. He's also awesome with the improv comedy on the beastcast. Sidenote, I would love a hip hop podcast with Jeff and Austin.

That improv he did with Vinny in that Xenoblade Chronicles X QL was pretty good.

The best (or worst) part of Dan is that he has no qualms to proclaim he doesn't understand something even if it that thing is something you would think most people would have an idea about.

He doesn't hide that shit and it can be infuriating to people LOL

Austin also seems to have a taste in games that's fairly unique amongst everyone else. No one else is talking about playing Paradox games or Satellite Reign. I imagine Vinny has some of the same taste just not nearly enough time.

he introduced me to UnderTale and I will always love him for that.

You really think so? I think there's plenty of people who don't know what a zero-sum game is. I don't think it's that wild of a question.

It's a bit silly to argue about someone's personality--but it wasn't a disagreement so much as it was ignoring empirical evidence from the mouth of people that have literally been there and have had to deal with it. I'm seriously not going to comb through things Austin has posted on the internet to come up with evidence as to why someone gives a certain impression to some people. That's... creepy?

Also, I think you're latching onto a specific word that is used far more liberally in different parts of the world and in a far different context. Cunty is not the same sort of swear in the UK as it is in the US.

It should be said that I genuinely like Austin and his taste in games, but it's not difficult to see why people might have an impression that he's a bit highfalutin compared to the other folk.

I don't want to be disingenuous but I'm an American and I meant it like an American. Eeep.

And again, like even you mentioned, I -like- Austin a lot. I like his perspective. He just acts like a weenie sometimes, just like how he no-sold Dan's earnest question.

It felt to me like his original point was that we shouldn't think of this as some massive triumph for YouTubers everywhere as a bunch of people on Twitter were the day before. And I was surprised that everyone seemed to disagree. Then it all kinda went sideways as the arguments continued.
