Take a step back, and take a deep breath.
First of all, remember that the guy piloting the sticks on this ER is the same guy who put You Don't Know Jack and The Gunstringer on his top ten games list, while omitting Skyrim. He's playing this game because it's considered a classic and he's never experienced it before. Someone probably gave him a taste of some of the crazy story stuff, and he said "That sounds awesome! I want to see that now!" Ryan is the definition of a "content tourist;" he wants his games to take him for a ride. The closest thing to an RPG I can remember him loving was Fallout 3, and he basically just VATS-button-mashed his way through that because he loved the story.
Watching Ryan play a JRPG would probably be like watching me play Fifa - incredibly excruciating for those who know and love it.
Regarding the opinion of Giant Bomb: one thing I always respected about them is that they're quite honest about what they like and dislike, and they never filter their experiences or opinions. You may find it offensive that they're making so many stupid mistakes, but that's precisely why I love their content. You know exactly what you're getting. This is the outlet that never reviewed Dark Souls because they didn't feel like they could get their heads around it in time (besides, listening to Vinny talk about his experiences with it week after week on the Bombcast is far more enlightening than any single article would have been).
I can trust Giant Bomb. That's why I continually go there over any other outlet.
