Hahahaha, this is awesome! What did it take you, like 3 days to completely circumvent the thing? And that's only because you didn't think of VPN sooner. Well done.

When I was a kid my dad put NetNanny on our home PC so I went though similar efforts to get past it. Luckily it blocked a TON of legit stuff and a single mention of "sex" or "bomb" would trigger a block so it was real easy to get it disabled to "research homework" or "look up gaming stuff".

The thirst was real.

Two or three days if I remembered VPN's I could had it gone in under 5 minutes. It's not as fun without interesting stuff to look at although I watched a ton of hammer horror so it's not all bad.

I'm glad I circumvented it any longer I would be driven insane.

There is this thread on gaming side that was about pandering in games that failed. Predictably, it turned into a thread arguing if female game characters were being objectified or not but it's got me thinking about male objectification. What would the body type of a male character that is being pandered towards women even look like? I can easily think of personality types but I have a hard time thinking of physiques. To pander towards men, you just slap a skimpy outfit on a big breasted female form with wide hips. There doesn't seem to be an equivalent for women where you can say, "Yep, that male character's design was obviously meant to get women all hot and bothered." Personality plays a larger role with female pandering than it does with male. I'm thinking this could be because it's only recently Hollywood has been pandering to straight women while straight men have been getting that thrown at them for decades.

Eh, I've seen some Japanese games that've tried to "pander to both sexes" by putting their bishie characters into skimpy bondage gear alongside their girls. Its pretty cute but its never done too much for me. I guess its...effort?

Y'know what I'd call Twilight female pandering. I've never been into the creepy distant kinda psycho thing but I know so many of my friends that just drooled about it constantly. I tried reading it and it just kinda made me roll my eyes.

I totally agree, but everyone I know was still drooling over it! Its definitely really creepy if you actually sit down and think about what you're reading.

They probably just found the idea of a handsome guys really being into them hot. I mean Bella is pretty much written like a mary sue and she's a main character. It's sad.

Yeah, slapping dudes into tight, revealing outfits doesn't do anything for me either. It looks ridiculous. The western equivalent, just Bioware really since they are the only ones trying, hasn't been completely successful with their pandering either. In Mass Effect, they write all these different male characters for female gamers and even throw in a shirtless scene for one but what ends up being the most popular is an alien bird dinosaur thing that wasn't initially supposed to be romanceable.

I thought about trying out Twilight too when one of my friends were really into it. Read the back and saw sparkly vampires and said nope.

I'm so glad that Hunger Games has replaced Twilight. At least Katniss isn't helpless and has some agency.

I never played Mass Effect, but my best friend loves Garrus to death. I totally agree with you, personality is so much more important than looks in general. I'm pan and its really critical regardless of who I've been interested in. Looks fade!

Yesssss and Jennifer Lawrence is such a better role model for kids to aspire to! The idea of an entire generation of girls growing up fantasizing about being Bella is really unnerving to me. D:

Very rarely can there be male objectification because they'll still be badasses and have more qualities than just what someone find sexy. It must be really rare there is a male character that is only known for a body feature.

A neighbor gave the book to my happily married mom some time ago saying he didn't like it much but she might enjoy it. I haven't read the book, but i found that a bit strange. From how i understood it there is at least a vanilla version of s&m (?) sex in there :p
