Not many of the device in action, unfortunately.

Lordy that thing's ugly. And how exactly do they plan on it competiting in the handheld arena?

Didn't someone post this would be very successful in Great Britain ?

why have a button with 9 dots as it's symbol?

They've already copied the triangle, circle and the X.
They might as well put the square in there too, just to seal the deal.

The 9 dots thing IS a square. ;)

They wanted to be at least a little original, I guess. heh.

Perhaps they were afraid Sony would crush the company with one single swift lawsuit.

Regardless, it will be obliterated by PSP/DS in a matter of months.

Decent try though.

Isn't that the old model? They've changed it. The new model has different button markings (symbols for play, stop, fast forward, rewind). They also upgraded the GPU in it to a nvidia goforce - they're apparently marketing it as a "portable xbox".

I wonder, actually, now, how it compare's spec-wise to the psp.

Pity about the lack of games. The coolest thing i've heard about it is the GPS navigation system and the ability to set up "security regions" - so for example, you could leave it in your parked car, set up a perimeter around you car using the GPS system, and if the gizmondo (and subsequently your car) leaves that area it'll send an message to your phone alerting you. You can apparently also use it for in-car GPS navigation, which might work out quite a lot cheaper than the regular systems.

Heh, yeah, I noticed it look different. The buttons also had different markings. The top button used to have squiggly waves representing it.

lol. when gaming devices have built in anti-theft devices like that, you know something's wrong. :lol

Yeah, the pic posted above is different from the original model. But the latest model is different still, I think. The whole play/stop/fastforward/rewind labelling also makes more sense for the portable media functionality to boot.

Aren't there waves of some sort as one of the buttons on the new model?

Maybe I just dreamed it.

EDIT: Beaten.

It's $500.

The end.

They plan on reducing that figure drastically using "sponsered" purchases and an advertising system in the machine. Apparently they want to get it down to $50. Don't know how likely that is to actually happen though.

No, with the new model there are no waves, afaik. Just play/stop/fastforward/rewind symbols.

That model is old. Buttons have changed. Could go down to $100 within the year says Edge. Latest Edge article summarises "don't write it off yet". But meh, whatever.

We could get GBA/SNES/NES/GENS/MAME emulators for this very quickly since it uses Windows CE. That's the only use I see for this thing..

The same could be true for the PSP of course.

Uh, the unit's pre-orders have topped over half a million, but you're right, they shouldn't release it. Why would they want to make money of all things?

if not for PSP, this will be nintendo hater's GBA/DS Killer, just like N-gage.

too bad it came a little bit too late.
um... what? People were touting N-Gage as a GBA/DS killer?

The people that can't live without sidetalking, obviously.

However, they were devastated by the design of the QD.

Store pre-orders, I bet.

How can there by 560,000 pre-orders for this? I'd be surprised if there were even 560 people who knew what a gizmondo is.

It'll save them money, guaranteed. Not bashing, just they stand no chance against the juggernauts of Nintendo and Sony.

That link says 560,000 "online" preorders. I've preordered many a things online, and cancelled it. Show me major developer backing, guaranteed big name software, and maybe they'll carve in a few %, but as it stands now. They'll be better off not releasing it.
