Agreed. 4/5 times the fantasies just flatline the show for me. They weren't even supposed to be in the show originally.

:(

I think she's sooper cool, dude
Brittany was by far the best part. If only the episode kept focusing on her, instead of turning back into The Rachel Show halfway through. That whole subplot with Finn and her was unnecessary and poorly written. My gawd, that speech and song to him was so cringe-worthy.

The musical numbers were the main problem. They were boring and soulless and there wasn't an ounce of creativity, energy or humour in them. I hate all the Britney Spears songs with a passion (hell, i hate most of the songs this show uses), but it still could've been fun to watch. Instead they took the lazy route.

episode was terrible. Britney spears looked like an old woman compared to the "teens" on glee.

Wasn't fun. Wasn't interesting. Had no plot. Most of the big numbers were dream sequences and I find it hard to believe that the school that hates on the GLEE club would boop along to some britney track

terrible terrible terrible.
did you really expect any plot to happen during a tribute episode? i rather they not mix stuff like this and leave it to regular episodes.

I'm with you there, bro.

I usually think of almost all the singing sections as fantasy sequences. Here is a club with little to no funding, but all of a sudden they have these huge elaborate shows and costumes out of nowhere. Yeah, that is a fantasy sequence.

I just have a problem when they blatantly shoehorn in certain music, much like Britney, Madonna, and Lady Gaga. When they make a point of saying "Oh we are doing this music now! This person is a genius and means so much to us!" like they did on the previous tribute episodes, I throw up in my mouth a little bit.

The only time the "themed" episode didn't bother me was when they performed all the "bad" songs. That didn't seem to be as blatant with the ass kissing or product placement. Are the tribute episodes fun? Hell yes they are. But they also rub me the wrong way at the same time. The episodes that are the most balanced and perfect are where the music just seems to flow perfectly in with the story and compliment what is happening, much like the "Dream On" episode. Although, why would you perform Aerosmith when auditioning for Les Mis?
but it was one of the highlight performances last year. Loved that entire episode

Ratings are in:

"Glee" drew 13.3 million viewers and a 5.8 preliminary adults 18-49 rating -- dominating the night, rising 4% from its mammoth premiere last week and scoring the pop-drama's biggest rating ever (yes, higher than the show's Madonna-themed episode).

And also: DAMN at Heather Morris in this episode. Just...drool.

awesome. there's rumor that there may be another Britney episode around superbowl? more britney plz. but stay away from her recent album ;x Oh and please no more Lea/Rachel and give me more Brittany.

The answer to every Glee criticism.

We better get like five seconds of TikTok next week.

Glad to see I wasn't the only person that felt like this was a complete filler episode. I like watching Brittany as much as the next guy, but this episode had almost no actual plot advancement in it.

Here's what you do to alleviate this anxiety: Think of Glee in a similar light as you might X-Files. Each episode is a new case (ie. song, singer, theme, etc.), one that may or may not have anything at all to do with the show's overarching mythology. Which might very well move along at a snail's pace.

When you think about it in those terms and just have fun with it, it's not such a big deal.

While it was a major filler episode, there are a few moments of plot advancement/character development.

We finally know more about Emma's relationship, Artie and Finn are now on the football team, Rachel is more comfortable with her and Finn's relationship, and now there's the whole Sue-suing-Will thing. Yeah, the songs were complete filler (minus the last one), but there WAS advancement in this episode.

There was what. 20 something episode for season 1? Should be about the same for Season 2. You'll have all your plot loving episodes with themed episode thrown there. don't feel so bad especially those that love them some themed episode.
EDIT: and it also allowed the other cast to be the focus rather than Rachel.

and when are they going to show more Charice and new jock? next week's episode doesn't seem to have them in there with all the focus on kurt and Finn and his Grilled Cheesus.

My state of denial must be lifting, because I think I really do kinda hate this show now. Don't think I've truly enjoyed it since the middle of last season. The plot and pacing is unbearably scattershot every episode. The disjointed "music video" segments don't help. It's either boring me to death, or making me cringe every few minutes. The characters and their drama just feels so hollow most of the time, I can't get into it. It seems I have nothing or no one to care about... almost

For some reason Brittany, Santana and Sue manage to be consistently amazing. Only thing keeping me hooked tbh. I still continue to hope my interest is reignited overall soon. But with each passing episode, it reinforces my "why bother" attitude. For fuck sake, win me back, Glee :/

Those three are the only things keeping the funny going and preventing the show from being completely awful.

Has anyone gif'd Rachel's heartwrenching performance for Finn? Her crying/singing /smiling had me :lol

I'm there with you. This episode was a ratings grab with them throwing Brittany songs in just so they can do Brittany songs.

"Its me or its football." come on. These kids act like fucking retards.

"I said what you told me to." I hate when writers spell everything out to the audience. of course Rachel couldn't hear what they were saying AT THE END OF THE HALL so of course Quinn was a plant. Dialogue is usually pretty clunky and lacks any kind of subtlety or creativity.

Put me in the camp that actually liked the episode overall. The Britney Spears asskissing was very heavy handed, but the episode was still fun. We got a big more out of Brittany (channelling Britney!) which is always gold. The only issues I really had were Rachel in full on bitch mode (Me or football!) and Teri just reappearing at random. Just please be rid of her.

The music video mode of this was a bit heavy handed this episode as well, as nearly ALL the songs were that way, and it seemed like there were more songs than normal in an episode. Perhaps that is just me.

I do like what story progression we did get (there was some. It was not all filler). Shu is coming to grips with his uptight nature. We met Emma's new beau. They set up a new rivalry with Sue and Shu. And I really love the one handicapped Cheerio (cant remember her name). She is like a little sidekick for Sue, and wonderful anytime she is on. I especially loved her reaction last week to Finn trying out for Cheerios.

Just saw this. About the same impression as every one else. Totally digging Brittany, she's so awesomely retarded ! Thought we'd see more Britney though, as in How I Met Your Mother episodes for exemple.
Couldn't stand William et Finn/Rachel, as usual. Too bad for the succession of fantasies too, I hate it when they do forced clips like this ... It's not what I signed for !!

Edit : Loved the 2/3 references to Internet phenomenons too : ( Leave Britney Alone, The sedated kid (" is this real life ?? ") and a last one I don't remember )

yes! I seriously have no clue where the characters are coming from half the time. Their motivation and angst shifts gears on a whim. And yeah, a lot of clumsy dialogue.

I promise not to constantly rag on the show too much, though. Most here seem to be enjoying it, so that's cool.

You know, I'm of the opinion that even a subpar episode of Glee is still pretty fun to watch. I agreed with most of the criticism everyone had for the second half of season 1 but I still enjoyed watching it.

Last night's episode was the first time I actually wanted to turn it off. I hated it so much that I paused it halfway through and did something else.

Well, most of the characters are teenagers. And a huge chunk of the audience for this show is teenagers. And teenagers do love their angst.

I like Glee, but it's got Popularitis.

I'm referring, of course, to Ryan Murphy's "Popular." It started off as a thoughtful show about teens and ended up a jumble of fantasy sequences and non-sequiturs.

Also, now that I think of it, the show has Popularitis in another respect. It seems now to be made by people in a marketing meeting.

I really liked the show initially because it was about people. I can't sing for crap and don't like musical theatricality, but I enjoyed the kids, the teacher, and their struggles. Now, sad to say, the show is like an overly autotuned music video. I get no sense of these characters as real people anymore. And I fear the show is only going to stray farther and farther away from being character-driven.

I feared the same last season. That the show would just become a vehicle to sell the CDs and merchandise. And some episodes do feel shamelessly that way. And anytime I feel like that is the route the show is going to stay, they go back to really good character focused episodes.

But unfortunately, this show will most likely become a victim of its own popularity.

I realized this from the glorified ad that was the Madonna episode.

F*ck I hated that episode. Even the Lady Gaga and Britney Spears episodes retained some form of quality. The Madonna on was just ugh.

Critics seemed to somehow hail it as a paragon of clever writing though. It's like they never watched the show prior to that.

From Ausiello. Some would consider these spoilers, so I will hide it. It does speak at the end of Charice's return.
episode 7

Ask Ausiello said:
Question: Let’s assume Chord Overstreet’s Sam is not a love interest for Glee’s Kurt, and Darren Criss is. Well, who will Sam be paired with? —Jeff
Ausiello: I’m hearing single mom Quinn. But if you’ve got a better idea, the comments section below has your name written all over it, Jeff.

Question: Is Mike Chang going to get a solo on Glee? I’m swooning over his dancing (and now his abs!), but a solo would just be the icing on the cake. —Kraig
Ausiello: He’ll get the next best thing to a solo in episode 4: a duet with Tina!

Question: With the Britney tribute episode and talk of possible Michael Jackson or Bruce Springsteen episodes, when the hell are the folks at Glee going to do a second Madonna episode? I want my Madge! —Dan
Ausiello: Not this season, apparently. Word on the street is that the Super Bowl episode will be the last tribute we’ll see this season. Of course, given the record ratings the show got with last night’s Britneypalooza, the word on the street could change, and fast.

Question: Any truth to the rumor that Glee‘s post-Super Bowl tribute episode will be a sequel to Britney/Brittany? —Taylor
Ausiello: If by “any truth” you mean “no truth whatsoever,” yes. Otherwise, not so much. BREAKING GLEE NEWS: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Charice will reappear in episode 7!

Fucking Britney is banging! No idea she was hiding that body.
And always good for us when she shows off the dance moves too.

And because a lot of posters keep going back and forth in the spellings and it is confusing me as to which Brit they are referring:

Britney Spears=Singer

Brittany S. Pears=Cheerio

Episode was a mess. I know why they did it but... bleh.

Also, if Chord Overstreet isn't Kurt's boyfriend I'm going to be pretty pissed. Just cause Jane Lynch accidentally leaked something isn't a reason to change the whole plotline for a character.

Shit, Brit can dance her ass off, I mean already knew she was a dancer, but seeing that ab control was ridiculous. Enjoyed the ep cause of Brit, Rachel was creepy and overbearing.

This episode was a PASS. There is a reason why the industry is sucking right now and glee should just keep the mainline popstars away from having there own episodes? I skipped the Maddy ep because of it.

The storyline episodes have lost there way. This is the major problem with Ryan and his Poplular boys, he has amazing consepts but they fall apart once they get too popluar. He isnt Spelling because Spelling honed his craft over 30 plus years and Ryan wants to be our boy and Middle America's next great hollywood ring general. It dont work that way Ryan. Ask JJ and Joss how fucking hard it is to keep both fanbases and why they ONLY work with one and set up diffrent shows for the OTHERS.

Sooo amped for the upcoming Rocky Horror ep.

I hope Puck is Frankenfurter! Dress that bitch up!

Brad/Janet = Finn/Rachel? Artie for Riff Raff? Kurt has to be Columbia! :D :D :D

Or "My name is Brad!" (ASSHOLE!)

So apparently Meatloaf and Barry Bostick are locks for the ep, with Susan Sarandon expressing interest as long as she doesn't have to sing.

Read conflicting reports on Tim Curry so I'm not going to get my hopes up on that one as I worship the man.
