Don't agree at all. Primetime TV had two characters come out as atheist and one as an agnostic. That's fucking huge.

Last episode was supposed to be a fun filler. And I had a blast!

At this point in Glee's life, you know what you're getting. And like I said before, continually watching and expecting different is pretty odd.
I guess if nonsensical stupidity is what I was supposed to get when the pretty good first-half Glee Season 1 ended then shit, why do I keep watching? Oh yeah, Sue. The only good thing.

Not sure. I just know that I love the show more than ever, and I'm continually confused that people watch it over and over and come to complain. :D

When I hate a show, I stop watching. That's the main reason I don't take GAF seriously ever.

I agree with you. It was a pretty decent episode. It was really nice to see Kurt and Sue not only come out as atheists but maintain their convictions throughout the episode.

edit: Not sure why people are expecting Glee to change when it's been the highest rated scripted show on television for the last two weeks. It must be doing something right.

First, I hate it when people post just to complain. I've been pretty unhappy with Glee lately and so I don't post.

But just when I am ready to give the show the boot, it has an episode like tonight's. Fantastic. Amazing. Touching. Smart.

This has to be the most wildly inconsistent show on TV.

Funny thing is that posts that complain are one thing. I don't really care one way or another. The annoying part in TV threads are the posters that are there week after week watching a show they profess to hate, then rush to the boards to tell us again.

It's honestly a sign of low intelligence or insanity.

Wow.

This episode is probably one of the best examples of drama from Glee. Amazing character moments, some great development, good uses of humor every once in a while and a fantastic song selection. I'd go as far to say that this is probably my favorite episode of Glee... ever?

Also, I'm a gay male with atheist tendencies.

I liked that too.

So much conflict in this page. I know one thing we can all agree on: Corey Monteith is a terrible singer. Sweet Jesus, I cannot stress this enough. I had forgotten how terrible he is and his rendition of Losing My Religion was close to excruciating.

Why did they go with that pseudo-Mike Stipe nasal tone? Why?

I thought this was a fantastic episode. Very dramatic and character heavy, similar to early Season 1. I think people just have a problem with the religion aspect.

The studio version of "One of Us" is pretty great

Doesn't he always sing like that? I think his voice is incapable of producing any other sound (and this is after extensive auto-tune).

Hey, don't blame Corey. Every rendition of Losing My Religion is excruciating to listen to. Such an awful song.

Disappointed that Chord
probably won't be gay
but super excited that Kurt
will finally no longer be the only gay in the village!

As for the last episode, I didn't really enjoy it too much. I liked the emotional stuff with Kurt and his dad but there was a bit too much pandering with the religious stuff and not enough serious argument from Kurt or Sue. But then I feel strongly about this kind of thing so it was probably never going to live up to what I wanted. Song selection wasn't too great for me either, I liked "I want to hold your hand" and "Papa can you hear me?" but I felt that all the other songs this episode were complete duds. And Finn needs to gtfo.

Yep.

Apparently the powers of Grilled Cheesus are infinite. It can even bring two atheists closer together. I hope no one ruins the moment by mentioning the D-word.

The D-word is Dollhouse. (In spoiler tags doesn't count as a mention, right?)

So Finn basically performed the Euchrist by consuming the grilled cheese. Everyone acted like fools in this episode. Its getting to be more than I can bare.

guess people want their themed episode. at least with people they know. That or they didn't want to watch a religious episode. Oh well. Can't wait for next week. I can see Santana and quinn fighting through song. I hope they actually have a real brawl :lol

Which sucks, because I've come to absolutely hate the themed episodes. I liked how none of the musical numbers this episode required costumes or dream sequences.

I don't think any songs actually look like it needed a costume change. except Kurt's awesome black hat in church. He looked so scared :lol

Well I'm talking about previous episodes, where they put the kids in normal situations (like on the school grounds) but have them in matching attire, after just telling us they have no budget. It irks me. This episode did none of that stuff. This episode felt more like the first part of Season 1.

Themed in that they want their big celebrity songs/guests. Britney being on Glee was pretty much the biggest topic on ONTD! for two weeks. And a lot of people tuned in just for her.

Can't say I was a big fan of the last episode, all these sappy moments will go to waste as soon as the next episode comes and they've all reverted back to the characters we know and love.

From Ausiello:

Question: Were you able to find out why Glee is casting miniature versions of Puck, Santana, Rachel, Brittany, and Mercedes? Are they doing a flashback? —Shelly
Ausiello: Nope. It’s a fantasy sequence. Or nightmare sequence if Sue’s the one doing the dreaming.
Question: You must give us some scoop on whether Darren Criss will be playing Kurt’s new love interest on Glee! —Ashley
Ausiello: That’s still TBD. All I know for certain is that they’ll be good friends.
Question: College applications are getting me down. Any news on Darren Criss’ Glee character to remotivate me? Is it too much to hope that he’ll be singing one of his own songs? —Sabrina
Ausiello: Sorry to add to your doldrums, but I do believe it’s too much to hope. But let me get confirmation of that from Criss himself. “Well, it really isn’t up to me,” shrugs the up-and-comer. “But even if it was, and as cool as that would be—personally, for me as an artist—I think it’s important to keep a bit of separation from the actors’ realities and the characters’ realities. For example, as much as I would love to geek out over Matthew Morrison singing “Passeggiata” from Light in the Piazza—or any of the Spring Awakening-turned-Glee kids doing a number from that show—it probably would shake the audience out of the world of McKinley High, or at least the Broadway fans of the show anyway. But hey, what’s best for the show is best for the show, and I trust the creators in their choice of music. If the time was right, and they ever approached me to have one of my songs used in the show, of course, I’d be absolutely thrilled.” Talented, pretty, and eloquent? Bitch.

That was a strange one. It had some fantastic moments nestled among some of the most painfully awkward segues into song this show has had, as well as some ultra cheesy renditions of inherently cheesy songs. It was all very "after school special" in its preachy-ness. I'm not expecting subtlety from this show, but there's only so much anvilicious moralizing i can take. The handling of the religious subject matter was about as shallow as it gets. I much prefer when they turn up the camp-factor to eleven and keep it light and fluffy, rather than taking itself so seriously.

Rachel making the whole situation about herself was hysterical.

Chris Colfer's rendition of 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' was fantastic and actually quite touching. Best part of the episode. Fantastic performance from him too.

My take on the episode: it had some great moments and some things that could have proven interesting for some characters, but I felt like everything didn't really come together at the end for anyone except Kurt, and you just know none of those plot points are never going to be mentioned again. Such is Glee, though.

edit: just noticed youtube has the songs up to listen ;o

I can see why most atheist wouldn't like this episode, but THIS is the kind of eps I like of Glee. It was mostly drama and the songs supported the story, not the other way around. It also was a little bit edgy with how Finn wanted to touch rachel's boobs. :lol

Yeah the episode definitely had a religious bias, but it also had some hard critiques on religion/God from a atheist/agnostic point of view. This is pretty rare for a mainstream network TV show. Remember we live in a country where all our elected officials have to be Christians, even if it's just in name only. So I thought Glee did a decent job of giving atheist/agnostics a voice without totally vilifying them. Kurt and Sue didn't "see the light" at the end of the episode, they remained who they were for the most part.

Religion is always a touchy subject and it's basically a no-win situation. I read some Glee message boards and apparently a ton of religious people felt the episode bashed God too much. I always say if everyone is pissed, then you must be doing something right. :lol

So yeah this is the Glee I signed on for. After last week's atrocious episode I was about to give up on the show. It felt like they completely sold out and were just in the business of selling iTunes songs. I mean really who does a filler episode on the second episode of the season!? But with this episode they weren't afraid to ruffle some feathers and I felt like I was watching a scripted TV show again and not TRL.

Kudos

Oh man, that song is such a show choir standard. That and turn the beat around were easily the most oft-heard songs during my time in Show Choir competitions.

1 hour and 20 minutes until tonight's episode.

In other news. Gorrillaz don't want their songs in GLEE. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101012/ap_en_ot/us_people_gorillaz

"We wouldn't let that happen," Albarn said in an interview with The Associated Press last week.
"And not that they've asked us because they haven't, and now they definitely won't," he continued with a laugh.

Cant even imagine how they would use their songs anyways.

Charice will be on the show soon!
