What is wrong with this show!? This was by far one of the worst episodes in a really long time. We're talking Season 2 terrible here. Good musical numbers (except for the nonsensical segway into Rachel singing "Without You") but nothing about this episode made any lick of sense.

----Spoilers Abound----

Biggest problems with this episode all involve Will. Where to start...

--OMG - does Schue have any friends or family? He asks Finn to be his best man??? Because he taught him how to be a man? Really??? Finn, who just a year ago wasn't old enough to vote? The boy who, just a little over a year ago, thought he got his girlfriend pregnant by getting a handy in a jacuzzi? The boy who spent most of high school bouncing between the same two girls? What!? Involving a group of kids in his very adult life is insane. It can't get any worse than that...

--Oh wait, it can! Schue, do you remember what happened the last time you got Emma's parents involved in your relationship? You found out they were borderline psycho bigots that she hated, and you caused her mental wellness to go careening down a toilet. So yeah, it's a PERFECT idea to ask for their permission to marry her, and then you TAKE THEIR ADVICE when they predictably refuse! WHAT!? Your gesture at the end of the episode doesn't erase you being a hopeless idiot.

--That entire scene with Finn in Schue's classroom was disgraceful. First off, Schue asks Finn to be his best man, but then betrays his trust by telling his family of his decision to enlist in the army? Then they stage an "intervention" AT the school (because apparently it's so terrible that a young man would want to serve his country and you stage interventions for that sort of thing). Then, when Finn defends his decision by saying he wants to learn how to be a strong, independent man (why a lot of people join the army) like his father, his mother decides that right there, in front of a group of people, is the best time to destroy her son's image of his dead dad by telling him he died a broken dope addict with mental issues? The writers really aught to be ashamed of themselves for this scene.

Basically, the moral of this episode is Ryan Murphy threw in the towel ages ago and Will Schuester is officially the worst character on television.

A year ago, I would have agreed.

And then Ben Harmon (on Murphy's other show) happened.
But he's dead now, so I guess Schu gets his crown back.

It did stand out as a "huh?" moment, but it's TV...stuff like that usually sticks to the established cast rather than one-off. Maybe if the "fondue pot of nationalities" former Football coach was still around, Shue would have asked him.

Well with Finn wanting to go into the military not for his own innate reasons, but off of the romanticized image of "he died a war hero" he had of his father, it made sense to tell him the full story...to let him know that War, and all it entails, can definitely change a person, and in some cases, as with his father, tragically. There's a lot of mental scars that soldiers bring back with them as well. As she said, "it broke him".

Whoa I didn't think they would do David Guetta. Without You was outstanding, I had chills down my spine, just perfect. Instantly joined the rank of my favourite Glee renditions.
Sugar Motta is the best Glee character.
If Sam joining synchronised swimming means we'll see him in bathing suits, I'm all for it.
And I loved Sue being a human being this episode. Did Jane Lynch ever smile in this series? I love her. Loved the whole ep because of Sugar Motta and Sue.

Blegh @ all of Schue's slow motion dance moves. And who the hell invites high school students to a bachelor party? (and asks Finn to be his best man?) What a fucking creeper.

Hellen Mirren's voice over was fun.

The swimming coach was a terribad stereotype, although I liked the swimsuits worn by the girls, especially Santana, so the swimming stuff wasn't all bad.

Well said. I agree 100%. That entire scene was poorly thought out. (like everything else on this show)

I hope Rachel says no to the proposal, causing Finn to join the Army. You know we'd get hot Army guys singing and dancing all over the place.

Sugar Motta is the best Glee character.

I hate her so much.

If Sam joining synchronised swimming means we'll see him in bathing suits, I'm all for it.

I'm convinced that the only reason the writers put Sam in synchronized swimming in the first place was so they could parade him around in skimpy suits.

So judging from the "Wanna Be Startin Something" excerpt, I'm convinced that Darren Criss can do anything.

And I'd let him do anything

Darren is a Filipino (well, half, his mom's a Filipina); They haven't established what Blaine is though. Matt and Darren are far apart enough in age and looks where different moms make sense.

He totally looks white.

I would bang a hot farmer!
And now the episode will end with her getting a letter from the school saying she's a finalist.

A year ago, I would have said that this was perfect for Will's character.

Now, though, when Glee's main concept of blatant satire died in episode 13 of season one....

I actually thought that scene was really good.

Why stage an intervention?
Because his dad did kill himself due to war trauma.
Because he is just a teenager.
Because joining the military is not something you do on a whim.

Let me guess: you've never personally known anyone that ever went into the military, right? It is not a walk in the park. Most people just say "yeah, it will be hard", but they have no idea how hard it is actually going to be. It destroys people both mentally and physically. Nobody in the military was that way when they joined. It's not just something you do.

And the military takes anyone. It's an incredibly hostile, rude, sexist, racist environment just due to the amount of complete buffoons that sign up. The military could care less about making you independent. They want you to be a soldier that follows orders. Thinks, yes; but ultimately follows orders. If you don't follow orders, they throw you in court or discharge you.

You make it sound like the military's main goal is to make you a productive citizen. That's a joke.

I liked the episode! I'm not a huge MJ fan or anything but I liked the music too.
Observations:
- The performance in the parking lot... wtf.
- Tina had 2 seconds of screen time. Sugar was not there at all.
- I liked Scream and Mike's voice in it. The only thing I wasn't feeling was Arties hairstyle during the segment D:
- "It was clever... I taped it under my boob!". Santana, my queen.
- Quinn looked gorge during her number.
- I don't care, I ship Samcedes.

Next week with Ricky Martin... I don't know. I haven't seen him act since he was in this mexican soap opera during the 90's so it should be interesting.

Yeah, because everyone in the military winds up shooting themselves in the head. Nobody said it's a walk in the park but for someone like Finn who doesn't have anything going for him joining the military after graduation isn't a bad idea. One that he should certainly be informed of beforehand but the way they did it in the episode was definitely pretty poor. Get off your high horse.

Well, they wanted to paint the negatives. Why shouldn't they?

I'm not on a high horse, some people do well in the military. My cousin did. Her husband did. So don't act like you know my intent.
