Glee Season 3 [OT] thread of pure love and acceptance

Spider from Mars

As someone who enjoyed season one for what It was and stopped watching about 1/4 of the way through season two, is season three worth looking into?

Its viewership is on a trajectory to hit series lows soon.

It's just a fad.

The real truth is that it's shedding some of its hype audience and finding its real (and still stellar) numbers. Record sales are still crazy.

The show has at most two years left anyway so it's moot. It's always been a timed thing since they are graduating major cast members.

A year ago, I would have said that this was perfect for Will's character.

Now, though, when Glee's main concept of blatant satire died in episode 13 of season one....

I actually thought that scene was really good.

Why stage an intervention?
Because his dad did kill himself due to war trauma.
Because he is just a teenager.
Because joining the military is not something you do on a whim.

Let me guess: you've never personally known anyone that ever went into the military, right? It is not a walk in the park. Most people just say "yeah, it will be hard", but they have no idea how hard it is actually going to be. It destroys people both mentally and physically. Nobody in the military was that way when they joined. It's not just something you do.

And the military takes anyone. It's an incredibly hostile, rude, sexist, racist environment just due to the amount of complete buffoons that sign up. The military could care less about making you independent. They want you to be a soldier that follows orders. Thinks, yes; but ultimately follows orders. If you don't follow orders, they throw you in court or discharge you.

You make it sound like the military's main goal is to make you a productive citizen. That's a joke.

...What?

Actually, I have several family members who have joined the military. All of them had successful careers. For the a lot of people, joining the military is a worthwhile endeavor that does give them a sense of purpose, and is a decision that is not later regretted. There are a great deal many people who are serving in our military and loving it.

I don't know what your experience with the military has been, and unlike you I would never assume to know; but making the military out to be a rusted-out machine that does nothing but eat you up and spit you out as a turd is incredibly dishonest, disrespectful to all the men and women who proudly serve, and in poor taste. Just like this show.

And all for what? So he can stay behind in Lima watching Burt's auto shop while he's in Washington? Ok.

Pretty sure they are keeping all the characters around (in surely highly contrived manners) anyways, so graduation means nothing. The show will until FOX deems it no longer financially viable, be it 5 seasons or 15.

Quinn gets into Yale, Kurt and Rachel into Nyada. Surprise. -__-

"Bad" was bad. No enthusiasm, sounded like shit.

"Scream" was pretty fun although I really dislike when the show recreates the music video. Artie is a surprisingly good dancer too.

"Smooth Criminal" was strange, but sorta cool.

Everything else was forgettable.

You might actually want to read the thread since my initial comment instead of making harsh knee-jerk accusations.

I also didn't paint the military as Evil. I said they want you to think. I said the military is not a decision you take on lightly. And are you going to try denying that complete buffoons don't get accepted into the military?

I'm not anti-military. I'm anti-not taking shit seriously. And joining the military is most definitely not something that you do on a whim just because you think you have what it takes.

And as for assumptions? You're assuming that I don't know what boot camp is like. You're assuming that I didn't hear horror stories about it. You're also assuming that no one in my family has ever served Over There.

I'm speaking so passionately about this because I do know. I've never served, but I'm close enough to that world to have a pretty decent idea.

So before you decide to chew someone out because they dared say something about the military that goes against your world view (seriously, dude, what's so wrong about saying the military isn't for everyone?), please take a chill pill.

Anyways. So the general concensus is just to go find the Michael Jackson stuff on the YouTubes?

Just watched the MJ ep, and holy fuck does this show suck now. I stopped watching somewhere in season 2 because it became too repetitive and boring and it doesn't look like it has improved.

The one thing that really stuck out for me (besides the awful renditions of MJ's songs) was that the Gleesters constantly compared their "persecution" to Michael's. Really? You're being bullied, he was accused of being a pedophile. Every time one of those dopes would ask themselves the question "hey guys, what would Michael do?" I'd scream "probably fondle some kids!" at the tv. It was the most fun I had during those 42 minutes.

There are still some good moments (like the original songs at the end of S2 and S3E08, for example), but, yeah, the show's only gone downhill.

Dude, I didn't chew you out. You came for me. I didn't assume anything about you, your background, or any member of your family. I'm not sure where you're getting that from my post. I apologize if it came out that way. But there was a point in your last post where you clearly presumed to know my life. You said it.

I don't have to make assumptions about your life to disagree with your stance on the military. Not everyone who joins the military is an ROTC kid who's been dead set on joining since middle school. Some people join because they have no direction in life. Some people join because they want the discipline that comes from being military-trained. There's more to it than either being completely prepared or a total bonehead making a godawful decision.

I just don't think Finn's decision was that hasty or ill-thought. Heck, his arc this entire season has been about not having a direction, not knowing what he wants out of life, and lacking a sense of purpose. There are a lot of people who join the military for those reasons and, in a lot of cases, come out better for it.

I didn't like that particular scene because the writers didn't communicate a sense of weight, or even pretend they were being non-partial. As soon as Finn announced that he wanted to join the military the show treated it like he just made the decision to do heroin. And then his mom deciding that right there in front of everyone was the perfect time to shatter her son's image of his dead father just wasn't believable to me. Sure, we can say that Glee is just a show, but for a show that pride's itself on being a beacon of positivity for youth they could have played that scene a bit more fairly. Joining the military is not always a bad thing. A lot of people go on to find their calling serving. In fact, in all likelihood a guy like Finn probably would join the military. Either that or take the pity job of watching Burt's shop while he's away.

Good to see this fun episode was up 16% in ratings and brought up the excellent New Girl with it.

Highest ratings of the night. :)

saw MJ episode this morning. what a trainwreck. idk why they extended irish boy's contract lol. he's definitely not needed. today will be bad if there's too much finn time.

GO IN ON HIM, SANTANA!

Will needs to never sing in Spanish again. And can this please be the last Schue-focused episode? Please?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and call that one of the better episodes of the year. Genuinely enjoyed most of what was going on, especially Emma, who's been useless for awhile.

The music was great too, most especially David/Santana's Madonna number. Yes please!

This is probably my favorite episode so far this season. But first let me set the record straight. THOSE FUCKING BOOTS ARE NOT PART OF THE HIPSTER MEXICAN CULTURE. I recoiled in horror the minute they were on screen. Those boots are used by a cultural group called "chuntaritos" and they are crime against the good taste. This "cultural" group is commonly found in the states near the border with the US.

Anyway, back to the episode, I liked Ricky Martin. He didn't took over the episode like Gwyneth did and sang 5 songs all by himself. Her duet with Santana was good.

Will Schuester, UGH. Poor Emma. I love her pamphlets.

This episode felt like it was from the first season to me, I think it was because of all the jokes. I haven't laughed so hard during an episode... probably since "Blame It on The Alcohol". I like Coach Ross; she sure can handle Sue. And speaking of her, even though the pregnancy plot was freaky (seriously, asking for the student's sperm is all kinds of messed up) all the jokes that came from it were awesome.

Sam and Mercedes pronounce spanish better than Santana. Also, where the hell was Tina?! She was completely absent during the episode.

Schue centered episodes are always shit. Ugh. And that Olympian coach is beyond terrible. What an awful caricature.

There were a few funny lines though.

Kurt, to Rachel and Mercedes: "Our periods aren't until the end of the month."

On washing your junk:

Puck: "I stopped washing down there cause it seemed kinda gay."

Rory: "I thought that's what the hair was for: catching the dirt."

Wooooow. lol

Wait how did they made a funny episode for once? It's like Glee could be good again.
You can't have children, you'll have grandchildren.
And Emma becoming a great character? Could it be?

Mmmm Ricky making me glad I'm gay all over again.

omg how can a human being be so sexy.
I want to kidnap him, surgically remove his tattoos and make him my sex slave.

So wait, show still good or not? I assumed it was reaching a high point again but now I'm not sure. I have something like 10 episodes on my TiVo just waiting to be watched. I never started again after the hiatus at the beginning of S3. Actually, don't know why I'm asking. I'm sure I'll watch them again.
