Godzilla |OT| Legendary

In case you guys want my Godzilla fanart as a tee, this is the time to let them hear your voice. :D
45313.jpg

You can vote it here - http://www.qwertee.com/product/hokusai-gojira - and hopefully it will get printed.
I will upload it on Redbubble as well in the very near future, but of course you won't be able to get it there for a small price like you can on Qwertee.

And it will be soon on my Society6, available as a poster, as a carpet and whatever else you might want. :D

Thanks for the support, spread the word if you feel like.

Oh, and BTW i'm going to see Godzilla again on Friday, can't wait to give it a second go.

My god, this is amazing.

i also saw it in 3d (first time) I thought the picture quality was horrible and I wasn't impressed by the 3d at all (no wonder why 3d tvs never took off)

Well...Cloverfield was probably more effective than Godzilla at conveying the dread and terror of a giant monster invasion. The mounting sense of despair as new and ever more horrible things happened came across very well IMO.

This is true, though my own sense of mounting dread and despair had more to do with handing the worst cameraman in history the camera, and enduring more time with the characters. :p

But yes - Godzilla frequently undercut the tension it should otherwise have been building. It had a slow-burn structure to it, with none of the tension or dread that should have come with it.

I have plenty of complains about the characters.

The most sticking out character is the Japanese scientist, who looked entirely out of place when while everyone goes serious about everything, he says nonsensical stuff to drive the plot while keeping that shocked expression throughout the whole movie.

The main character, who's specialization is to disarm explosives, did not do his job at all. In fact, his only contribution to the whole movie is merely destroying the eggs, which isn't even part of the main objective. He's no different from any other random soldier around.

The scientist's assistant. As someone who seemed important, all she did in the movie was shout "Hey doctor".

Honestly the ship's captain and the father were better characters than the main characters.

Also stupid scenes such as people who only seemed to be running away at the last possible moment, the guy who had to use a binocular to see a giant monster he could not see with his eyes.

The initial Phillipines setting was totally unneeded at all.

But I liked the badass-ness of Godzilla and the military action was awesome.

kind of liked that he didn't get to disarm the bomb. Felt more realistic that the container got fucked up and they couldn't even get to it. I don't mind them subverting that trope. I also don't get your complaint that the phillipines setting was unneeded. What does that even mean?

I just felt the fossil digging site could have taken place in Janjira and it would have worked as well. There was no meaning for the fossil site to take place in any random location, other than "Hey this film takes place in many locations".
For me I just feel if something carries no meaning, either cut it or make it meaningful. Just a minor gripe for me haha.

It's there as a setting/plot connection.

If the eggs were found deep underground, it makes no sense to put it in Janjira because they aren't digging that deep in that area. That'd mean no skeleton or good reason to unearth the eggs. If it also was already in Janjira, it wouldn't make its way and attach the power plant, destroying it.
They'd really have to rewrite that entire thing, to remove it.

Saw it yesterday for the second time. I really liked it and I really enjoyed the first half, even if it barely showed monsters at all. The scene where
Bryan Cranston's wife dies
was pretty powerful and emotional, great acting from everyone there.

On the other hand, I agree with almost everyone,
Cranston's death was lame and I wish he could have been the "advisor" role for the whole movie instead of Watanabe. I wouldn't mind a retcon in the sequel reviving him somehow, lol.

I loved the Hawaii sequence, gave me some ID4/Jurassic Park vibes. I wish it could have been a little longer.

I have some complaints though. I didn't like that
Gozilla just ignored humans in the Golden Gate when they were bothering with missiles and shit. I think it would have been better to introduce the atomic breath there burning those sons of bitches and the kids to stablish his power and adding a bit to the "terror" side.

Also, I think Pacific Rim expressed better the feeling of alienation in human culture when fucking giant monsters start appearing to destroy cities. In this movie, people quickly accept the reality of some giant creatures wrecking shit like it was nothing. They were afraid of the destruction, but they didn't question anything (or their own sanity) regarding a massive fucking atomic dinosaur.

Overall, it wasn't perfect but we finally have a decent western Godzilla. I see huge potential for the sequel if Legendary opens the budget a little bit more and they hire better actors. More screen time for monsters and other Toho Kaijus would be perfect.

What a disappointment this was. Even getting past the nonexistent script, I felt the atmosphere was lacking almost the entire movie. I rarely felt excited or convinced that there were huge monsters tearing cities up. The one scene that was actually interesting from the human POV was the HALO jump, and everyone saw that in the trailer already. Poor Bryan Cranston
throwing everything he has at this non-story like 20 minutes into the movie only for him to be snuffed out unceremoniously, apparently taking the soul of the human race with him.

I'm not asking for amazing stuff here- I know what Godzilla is- and I'm not even opposed to having the humans play the background and this whole "post-human blockbuster" thing, but I have to be engaged. The monsters were fine, and there were some good Godzilla shots, but.....I didn't care. I don't know if I'm numb to destruction porn or if the focus on the boring humans did that much damage to the movie, but by the time things were really going down and Edwards stopped teasing, I just didn't care anymore and was actually quite bored during the fight scenes. I didn't feel the awe of monsters destroy stuff. The movie is clearly wanting to establish awe-inspiring scale, but it doesn't work for me. Hell sometimes the monsters felt like backgrounds in a 2D fighting game where the stuff in the foreground is totally disconnected. It's also trying to be a character piece, at least part of it is, but that doesn't work either. On top of all that, the score's not memorable. So what am I left with? 5 shots of Godzilla that can be used as poster art, and a fantastic HALO jump scene. It's not enough.

I'll maybe get some more appreciation for the spectacle of the last 20 minutes in the future, but I can't see myself ever coming back to this as a whole. The human scenes are not good enough to carry their significant portion of the movie, and the payoffs are few and far between. Hopefully now that the franchise is reestablished and making money, the sequel can be a bit more interesting.

Noticing a lot of complaints are general characteristics of Godzilla movies
-Not enough Godzilla tearing up shit.....Godzilla doesnt normally tear up shit, he's there to stop it (although this very much depends if its good or evil Godzilla, this movie clearly being 'good' Godzilla)
-Disconnect between human and Godzilla plot.... staple of Godzilla movies in which the human plot has very little effect on the Godzilla/monster plot until the end
- Godzilla ignoring tank blasts and fightr jets.....dude is muthafuckin Godzilla, he is normally ignoring human counterattacks unless it is some super laser thing or mechagodzilla
-Godzilla not showing up til the end.... movie is a reboot of the original Gojira, which similarly didnt fully revel in Godzilla destruction til near the end
although I will agree it did take a bit longer than expected

Thank you for expressing my exact impressions as well. Loved a few scenes with the big G here and there, as well as his overall portrayal, but most of it felt dull and boring - mostly because of the typically cliche human story lines. Hollywood should stop shoving the importance of FAMILY down our throats if they can't bother to make us care for these people. Didn't care for Godzilla's adversaries either design wise.

And no offense, but I've also gotten quite sick of seeing American army guys stick to their routine (such as walking with their guns at the ready) while not standing a chance at all against such odds (just as in Transformers by the way). Would have liked it far better if the movie would have been set in the future and all the vehicles would have been more fantastical as well.

And then there is this as well:
Wait if Godzilla is meant to restore the balance and protect Mother Nature then how come he never attacked the humans?

I do hope for a better sequel that sticks more closely to the designs of the Japanese classics though. Make it less self-serious and go all out with monster on monster awesomeness I'd say.

I just don't get it, where was there slow does and boring parts in the film?
when he tucked his kid into bed? Telling his wife war stories?

I just don't get it, only seen it once so far but from what I remember.. There was no downside. Maybe more people in this country have Add idk

I watched 30 Godzilla films and this one had the best acting and human story. Boo-boo if you want it more like Pacific rim, I wanted a sequel.

Anyone remember Peter Jackson king Kong? Now THAT was a snooze fest.
No, that was great, especially the extended version.

Doubt you were snoozing during the bug part.

Cloverfield was definitely better at getting the point across that monsters were destroying shit and everybody is going to die. I left the movie feeling lukewarm. I didn't even really care for the fight at the end, Godzilla was moving like a ton of lard was injected into his thighs

I liked the
fallibility of the characters. In general, the human plans to deal with the monsters all fail: the initial military response fails due to the EMP, they lose radar tracking for the same reason, the nuke transport/bait plan fails, and the son fails to disarm the bomb. It fit in with the theme of humans being insignificant, just a backdrop against which the creatures are fighting. Our hero did make a positive contribution in the destruction of the eggs, so he got his moment to shine. But that was it - humanity's plans and attempts to intervene in the battle all fail which supported the overt theme to the film. If we did more, it would have undercut that theme. We're just sort of helpless against these things.

Movie was amazing and loved every minute of it, also
that big skeleton that was in the underground cavern in the beginning, was that remains of one of the mutos or another Godzilla?

Here's a post Godzilla interview with Gareth Edwards obvious spoilers.

http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=41069

Here's another spoiler interview with Gareth, both are great but in this one he drops their 'in studio' explanation for Godzilla's atomic breath and it's a pretty cool explanation.

http://www.fxguide.com/fxpodcasts/fxpodcast-276-director-gareth-edwards-on-godzilla/

It went something like it's visually based on napalm, but the backstory is it's some kind of mixed atomic chemical compound that he can produce inside of his "spines" biologically, when he "charges up" a separate compound is mixed and causes a chemical bioluminescence.

Yeah, soldiers sticking to the years and years of training that become instinctive as to not get killed in a traditional war are totally unrealistic, they should instantly forget that and run around screaming with no discipline!

in the original script, it was
another ancient Godzilla. In the movie though, they leave it more ambiguous. Also the original script plays up the parasite angle a little more. Rather than needing the nuke for the eggs, they wanted to use Godzilla himself and use his body as a radioactive incubator

Looked like they changed it to some sort of giant snake to me. Too narrow of a profile to be another Godzilla. I'd imagine his rib structure would be much, much wider.

Listened to this, it was really interesting.

i strongly disagree with what he said about
Cranston's character, he could have worked great for the rest of the movie (and certainly not worse than his son with dull expression) IMHO.
Also because the dude played by Watanabe stayed for the whole movie and had not very much to do or say (save for one liners)

I've always thought it was the Godzilla that got nuked. Went underground to heal it's injuries only to be killed by the parasitic MUTO's.

Maybe not running around screaming but at the very least,
after they've found out that M4 carbines are completely useless against 350 feet tall monsters, maybe they'd figure out that leaving them at base would be a better idea. Less weight to carry and so on. And their training doesn't exactly prepare them to fight a MUTO or Godzilla, I could see some dudes thoroughly mindf#$%ed by what they see.

They would work pretty great againt the rioters and looters that would rise in the face of an apocalyptic event like fucking Godzilla. SOP wouldn't change instantly. :)

Saw the movie for a second time in IMAX 3D. I loved it just as much as the first. Honestly, I'll probably go a third time to see it, as well as purchase/pre-order the Blu-Ray as soon as it becomes available.

Yeah, you might say I love the movie.

Thinking about t he movie a little more I will be honest here, the initial excitement is now gone so I will say that Edwards should've had a little restraint in those sudden cuts when
Godzilla appeared
, I mean the first time was alright because of the impact factor but the second time was not needed, the time when
Godzilla first fight in the city and some door closes just when Godzilla catches the MUTO with his mouth
, I honeslt got mad at that.

If that cut wasn't in the movie I would have loved it more, I guess maybe I just wanted to see
Godzilla
in all its splendor more time after all this years, also maybe is a flaw for me but not for many others.

I just wanted more thats all, incredible movie still though and I will buy it in Bluray.

Once he has it on redbubble you definitely can. Qwerteemay ship to europeas well, but i'm not sure. Most tshirt sites do though. I know teefury, riptappearal and shirtpunch do. So i don't see why qwertee wouldn't.
