Finally bought a handheld with the ds, picked up mario and wario but now want something else. Zoo keeper doesn't really grab me so I was thinking I might make use of that extra slot. Advance wars 2 is about the only game I ever played on a handheld (and loved it) can anyone suggest some good titles? New or really really old, I've probably played none of them.

No RPGs though.

Crap, Yoshi's Island taken from me.

The I suggest Zelda the Minish Cap (it's not an RPG!!), Metal Slug Advance, CastleVania - Aria of Sorrow, and the MegaMan Zero series. You canNOT go wrong with these.

I could not agree more.

Also, you said you loved Advance Wars 2, but said no RPGs. Well, you should definetly check out Fire Emblem. Check out Wario Ware: Twisted once it comes out as well.

If you like Wario, try Feel the Magic. It's like Wario Ware with a story and the main game lasts longer than Wario's.

Some GBA games

Double Dragon Advance
River City Ransom Advance
Super Puzzle Fighter 2
KOF Howling Blood
Super Street Fighter 2
Wario Land 4
Zelda Lttp
Zelda MC
Mario Kart
Metroid Zero Mission
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Mario World
Mario Bros 3

Even though you said no rpgs, you need to get Fire Emblem since you loved Advance Wars. Its not Final Fantasy-rpg like, its more like Advance Wars with a story, and individual characters.

Yeah, does RPG include fire emblem etc? I like those games, games like KOTOR however, make me physically ill due to suckage, I like the strategy of Advance wars and Fire Emblem... I found A wars much better because it was lighter on the story. Did like the "Once they're dead they're dead" thing in fire emblem though. just got annoyed with skipping cutscenes.

I would never touch something like golden sun, as an example of my dislike for RPGs. If that makes sense.

All of the above

Golden Sun (either one)
Mario Vs Donkey Kong

Hmm, Golden Sun is about as RPG as it gets. What a frikken yawn fest.

catfish has played fire emblem I think. Although it wasn't on a handheld *snikker*

I would recommend:

It makes sense, and to each their own. As everybody mentioned before, there are plenty of different kinds of GBA games you can play, but you sure are missing a lot if you are putting a taboo on RPGs.

Ninja Five O or whatever its called?

EDIT: If you can stomach another RPG, I really reccomend Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.

reckon twisted is worth it if I have (or will have when it ships) WW: Touched?

Golden Sun: The Lost Age was one of the reasons I quit RPGs, but then I discovered Fire Emblem.

Fire Emblem is one of my favourite games, even if there's a bit of dialogue to go through. It's RPG, but it doesn't have any annoying random battles. Go for it.

Yes indeed. Even though Touched is good, everybody seems to say that Twisted blows it out of the water. Also, it is a completely different game.

The whole "Twisted > Touched" thing is getting blown way, way out of proportion. I guarantee, mark my words, that once it's released there will be a backlash against the importers who have been hyping the hell out of it for months. It's definitely better than Twisted overall, but I think people are starting to expect something completely spectacular, which it isn't. It's just good.

Anyway, why hasn't anyone else been playing this?:

I've been S-ranking stages all day long, and having a blast. It's pretty sad and discouraging that nobody other than me on GAF, to my knowledge, has so much as acknowledged its release yet. I suppose people will finally get a clue several months down the line, and will wonder aloud why it flopped so hard. It's cause ya fuckers aren't buying it NOW. So please do! You won't regret it.

I have yet to play Twisted but I really doubt that there is that much of a gap between the two games. It just doesn't seem plausible.

Anway, I too have been playing Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament. Such a great game. I echo your sentiment on the utter lack of knowledge for the game. I have yet to acheive an S-rank on a stage but I am working my way to it.

Also, catfish if you don't mind importing, you should definetly, definetly pick up Kuru Kururin Paradise.

It's "every fucking week I swear", for future reference. You're right, though, this IS the quintessential somebody-asks-every-week thread.

Also, Twisted largely succeeds at living up to the quality of the first game where Touched stumbled a bit. It's about the quality of Mega Microgames.

oh god. Use the search. Especially for a topic like this. 1 a week I swear!

I don't believe they sell that one round here.

from suggestions posted here I'm thinking about

minish cap
and klonoa, just because I'm prepared to give it a go based on the GAF recommendation. If I go with that one, expect a nice big impression thread with my results....

I think I will wait on the ds castlevania, ninja five-o is definately not going to be found in NZ and I don't know if I will need more wario ware since i will have touched and the GC one.

I'll probably pick up one of those and mario 3, just cause I've never beaten that game. (sorry gaming gods...)

considering it's coming out in the fall, you and everybody else.

Yeah I meant I will skip the gba one and just wait for the ds version. also when is fall for you? That's autumn right?

a) you'd be lucky to find the GBA cvs carts. See B for why

b) If you want the DS copy, I recommend you preorder. Konami notoriously prints very few copies. Maybe it'll be different cause DS cards are meant to be cheaper than GBA carts

You would have a point if GBA RPGS WEREN'T SUCH GARBAGE.

I'll second the:
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Metroids
Mario Advances
Ninja 5-0
Fire Emblem / Advance Wars 2
Advance Guardian Heroes
Astro Boy

and add a:
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits

Yeah sorry, us un-american infidels don't conform to bizzare naming conventions. Oh yeah, over here we use the frikken Metric system. It's divisible by 10 you know.

Any of the three Castlevania's.

Circle of the Moon
Harmony of Dissonance
Aria of Sorrow

But since you're gonna pass on them, Zelda Minish Cap was fun.

September - November

I'm guessing Castlevania DS will be in Oct or Nov.

Aw, c'mon baby. You know I'm good for it.

I haven't had much time to either play or post, what with my laptop's death forcing me to troubleshoot this long-forsaken PC. Two days later and I'm still clueless as to what's going on...except that these HDs seem to have come straight from Satan himself.

edit: I see Wario already did the whole link thing. Alas.

:lol Trust me, you aren't the only one,I plan on picking this up the first chance I get, I saw the light after I picked up the first game used, wish I hadn't though, as I found a new, unopened copy, the next day. Anyways, acttualy it seems BuddyC has been mentioning quite a bit as well.

EDIT: See. :P

Bubble Bobble Old & New - A game called Bubble Bobble Revolution is supposedly coming to DS. So I dunno if this will be made obselete.
Fire Emblem - Brilliant, simple, challenging SRPG
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - Very fun RPG, packed with nostalgia, unique combat
Castlevania CotM, AoS - Bought both of these in the last week. If you liked Symphony of the Night, go for it.
Metroid Zero Mission - Can never go wrong with more Super Metroid
Metroid Fusion - see above
Wario Ware - Pure genius, very addictive,
Astro Boy - Awesome Action game. You don't need any knowledge of the anime to enjoy it.

Catfish:

A Bond and Bond I popped into at the weekend was getting rid of their gameboy stock.

It included MEtroid:Fusion $30
Mario Advance 3 : Yoshi's Island $30 or $50
Mario ADvance 4: Mario Bros. 3 $50
Mario and Luigi Superstar saga $50
F-zero $30 I think
Game and Watch Gallery ADvance $10

All are games I'd recommend.

oh, somehow i didn't mention bubble bobble. disregard everything else and just buy that. it ends up being the ideal portable game. steer clear of the vile "new" mode and its conspicuously bad art, and enjoy the circa 1985 gaming goodness.

Haha, your link actually goes to a thread about reading game manuals. I read through it about 10 times, trying to figure out what I was supposed to be seeing there, but got nothing out of it but a bitter reminder of the existence of Neutron Night. I finally ended up making my way back here and finding Wario's link. At any rate, I missed the Klonoa thread entirely when you first posted it, which is strange considering that I'd normally click on any thread you've started regardless of its title. :D

So maybe you and others have been mentioning Klonoa 2 after all. Awesome! I'm still glad I posted/whined about it, though, since it looks like Catfish has been convinced to pick it up. :)

and since there were absolutely zero impressions of the game in that thread only pre-release hype, you still come out on top. :D

but, im interested! i was going to pick up minnish cap tomorrow, but i may reconsider and hold off. im sure MC will be relativly easy to find later on down the road, Klonoa on the other hand...
