Google reveals the coolest video games, video game consoles among US teens 13-17

Lol wtf at Oreos and Doritos I mean really.

The Zelda spike is cause of botw release, which I'm sure will die down and another game will easily replace it's spot on this list after a month.

you don't know how many LE oreo put out. instagram stay lit with fake and real ones too.

People who are troubled by the Sony/Microsoft difference amongst teens... don't lose too much sleep over the incredibly small Microsoft/Sony differences in perceived "coolness." They basically offset "coolness" with "awareness." The difference is smaller than almost every other competing brand on the list, and even amongst 18-24 year olds, Sony gains ground.

well youtube is tanking themselves so a lot of teens are about to hit massive depression if there world is shaped by that as number 1.

still doesn't really make sense why it would make it to a list of the coolest brand for teens.

Oreo over Apple? Really?

Idk, obviously my take only (and I'm 31 for what that's worth), but is Apple really "cool"? I literally only buy the phone because it sucks to be outside that ecosystem for purposes of compatibility with pretty much anything.

I hardly consider Apple "cool" or having an iPhone "cool." Everyone has one.

Pew uses these categories: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1211893

The Greatest Generation, born before 1928
The Silent Generation, born between 1928 and 1945
The Baby Boomers, born between 1946 and 1964
Generation X, born between 1965 and 1980
Millennials, born between 1981 and 1997

Ha I always though Millenials were born after 1990. Oh dear I guess I'm one of them.

Gen Z the real enemy now.

Also...kids tell us about you're favourite games! GTA, Call of Duty and CS:GO an some Doritos!

Uh...ok...wonder how young this is but I've noticed it among the kids I work with. Not unusual for a 10 year old to start quoting GTA or CS:GO memes. Quite surreal.

Oh wow look Youtube is a huge influence on them MAYBE we won't have people going "what's the big deal" the next time some youtube knob says some dumb shit.

who am I kidding

this is the same GAF that asked who this

was in that Final Fantasy thread.

You know ain't shit gonna change on this.

teens can't afford Apple products.

Apple actually performs very highly in both brand awareness and brand coolness. It outperforms, for instance, Facebook, Instagram, Samsung, and Sony, and dozens more brands.

Just me who find this statement really fucking sad?

I don't think it's that sad, it's just realistic when you're a teen. Think about when you were a teenager... For me (older millennial), brands like the GAP, music brands, Nike, Vans, Converse, Airwalk, Quicksilver, etc., dominated what defined you. In high school, the clothes you wore, TV shows you watched, music you listened to, cars you liked, shoes you wore, skateboard companies you like, defined who you were, and almost all of those things were brands.

It's the dad dancing of phones.

To be fair, marketers make self-serving statements like that all the time. The whole industry runs on an inflated sense of importance. It's how an ad agency can convince themselves that a commercial positioning Pepsi as the soft drink choice of public protest is in any way a good idea.

Surprised Zelda is in the top. I thought Gen Z only cared for COD and FIFA, along with Doritos and Mountain View.

There is still hope for the youngest generations.

From experience (currently in high school) people who don't care about the technical specs of their phones have apple products. Every person I know with an android can list me every single detail about their phone. So I guess the cool kids have apple products?

I was born in 97. Am I a millennial or part of gen Z?

Either way, I can't say I relate to much of this apart from thinking Zelda is great, probably why I ended up on Gaf tbh haha.

you are gen z the next batch of pokemon

its jsut a bunch of dudes moving flag poles "Randstad Canada describes Generation Z as those born between 1995–2014.[23][24] Australia's McCrindle Research Centre defines Generation Z as those born between 1995–2009, starting with a recorded rise in birth rates, and fitting their newer definition of a generational span with a maximum of 15 years.[25] A 2014 report from Sparks and Honey describes Generation Z as those born in 1995 or later.[26] Author Jean Twenge describes the iGen as those born after 1995"

while others consider after 2000 or even 2005 gen z.

Psh! You ain't a child, just buy them yourself!

Haha, we're goin to the Dominican Republic next month and tryin to do the eat healthy thing (and have been trying to do that for awhile actually).

Also, I have tons of self control when it comes to not buying, but if they're in the house, limiting consumption can prove........challenging =P

Maybe though. I'm open to recommendations on the best flavor, if I was to cheat =)

It's people born since around 1996 or 1997 depending on who you ask.

Millennials (originally Generation Y) are more people born 1980 through 1995 or 1996.

Generation X is more 1965-1979-ish.
So where do I belong!?!? I was born in the second half of '96. Am I stuck in between?

You are the chosen one who will bridge the gap and end the upcoming generational war

Basically I hate most of this survey's results, but totally understand that's what my generation likes, except for a handful of people my age.

I think something like 75% of places would put you at the very tail end of millennial, but you could argue either one.

Basically the main dividing line is the rise of smartphones and mass social media services while you were growing up versus just the basic proliferation of home computers and the internet while you were growing up, and it's hard to define an exact year to fit that, which causes the disagreement.

I can understand Doritos cause it's synonymous with Mountain Dew and "gamer food" but I'm also puzzled at Oreos, especially since it was 5 on the list.

Only the beginning of getting out of touch, it'll only get worse from here.

What musician, TV Show, or brand was on your wall when you were a teen? If you say none, was that true of everyone you know?

The statement is basically meaningless because it held true for previous generations too, there just wasn't Facebook to broadly share the photos.

Hmmm. I was in 6th grade when the iPhone came out. But my childhood is with dial up and windows 98-xp. I'll say gen Z so I'm not considered old.
People hitting their late teens right now are Generation Z.
Fuck. I turn 21 this year.
