I'm pretty much the opposite of this. For eg if I'm looking to watch a new TV series, I'm immediately put off if the cast have the universal appearance of a model ensemble, it's an immersion issue. One or two better looking faces is fine, but generally I prefer people who look real, it helps me buy into the scenario.
I've heard American TV has a problem with this, and that there's basically a prerequisite that the majority of the cast be ridiculously gorgeous, otherwise the audience can't cope and switch off.
