The game will always look ugly and muddy at 720p. They just didn't optimize the graphics for that resolution. Change the native resolution to 1080p, it will look much better, but at the expense of some frame rate dips. You can go to the main menu, then to display settings, and set the image quality to Sharpen. That should help with the framerate a little bit but it will cause screentearing. If you change the setting to Flicker Reduction, it will reduce screentear but the framerate will be worse.

Nothing you can really do about jaggies, but I don't think it's that much of a problem at 1080p, especially when compared to most other racing games. The real problem is the frame rate.

This is a frame buffer screengrab at 1080p from Wax.

The TV attached to my cockpit is only 720p, so I guess I'm stuck.
Enjoying the gameplay, but the mud filter and aliasing is a real shame. GT5 looked much sharper at 720p on the same display.

OK, GT6 finally arrived, all seven updates have been downloaded and installed (yay for 40meg fibre), and I've had a little play.

First question: how do I turn off the N64 filter that makes everything a muddy blur?
Second question: how do I enable AA to reduce the jaggies?

Has this game really taken such a generational leap backwards with the visuals or is the new resolution utterly incompatible with 720p displays? Or has the global lighting really caused such a compromise?

I've gotta say, it's downright fugly compared to GT5 from what I've seen so far. Where's the pin-sharp clarity disappeared to?

Loving the rejigged physics, by the way, and sound does seem improved. The menus and load times are great too.

Do I have you my PSN friends list? What's you ID?

Yeah, its a shame. I dont think i could ever play the game exclusively at 720p for so long. Im not sure how they managed to make it look so bad.

I'm not seeing this mud filter or awful aliasing when playing in 720p mode, and when I compared GT5 with GT6 ages ago there were no differences other than lighting and shadows. Did they change something in one of the patches? If so I'll have to retest.

Direct feed shots of all three display modes with the sharp setting.

Yes.

Having compared them again GT6 does look like shit, it has some shitty blue tint to it and more blur @720p

granturismo58lspd.png

granturismo6_14hbsml.png

Interesting comparison. GT6 does look more blurry but the AA works a lot better on the car, probably both due to the post processing AA GT6 uses. Another notable difference is the car's shadow: Smoothed in GT6 and therefore lacking a little detail but it's easier on the eyes imo. And yeah, I like the color balance in GT5 better.

ediz: There's also a less/different crowd in GT6, and the people don't have flags. No idea if that could differ depending on the race options (time trial vs. race..?).

The new Senna content is really really good viewed in isolation. I think the visual presentation is quite good but a little messy in places (the event screens are a little cluttered) but the thoughtfulness of it all is really nice.

I'd quite like the slideshows to be narrated (preferably in Brazilian Portuguese) with the text supporting that narration rather than just being there. I think that would bring even more poignancy to them but that's probably just me.

I really like the new vehicles and track layouts, the West Surrey Racing F3 car round Brands Hatch Indy is a really good car/track match and having old (proper) Monza is just a joy.

I've golded all the events now apart from the final one at Brands Hatch GP, I'm at 1.08:345 at the moment but I know where I'm losing the required time.

Knowing where the time is lost and not losing it though are two different things, nailing each section perfectly might be a little beyond me, anytime I make up in sector 1 I generally lose in 2 and 3 mostly out of excitement... "I'm ahead, I'm ahead, I'm ahead.... oops, I'm behind".

It's a real shame that such a marvelous piece of [free] DLC is released against a backdrop of unfulfilled promises else I suspect it would be getting a lot more [deserved] acclaim.

On a different note, I see - PD - that you once again forgot to include shuffle in the update. Plainly this is a simple oversight in all the excitement of releasing the Senna content. I'm looking forward to seeing this omission rectified in the near future. Thanks.

I'm assuming this is one of the Senna cars, does it look better in person or in motion? It looks kind of flat in these images. As do some of the other images posted of the Senna content. Are my eyes just getting too critical?

Man, I finally boot it up again to get it patched up, and its stuck in patching/installation Hell. It's like the ghost of GT5 came to take revenge for being taken offline or something.

GT Academy´s combo is so nice. It´s a damn shame it´s also showing some stupid flaws in the game. The ghost options are stupid, you can view the car or the lines from your friends, or just the lines of your friends, but for whatever stupid reason, you can´t just view the ghost, like it was in every other game.

Sooooo annoying...

At least viewing replays is a bit better now.

Those cones are stupid. They are way too tight on the racetrack and they make you instantly quit. It´s stupid, ruins the flow of the game. Just use red invalid laps, none of this BS cones-quitting thing.

Also, there´s something terribly wrong with the physics. Watching the top replay and instead of braking or coasting the guy just slams 5th gear for a few seconds, while continuing to accelerate. Yeah, i heard that´s great for the gearbox. If you´re looking for future drivers at least make sure the car simulates how it would behave in real life.

GT6 AND GOODWOOD TO REVEAL ’120 YEARS OF MERCEDES MOTORSPORT’ CENTRAL FEATURE – SIMULTANEOUSLY

When Lord March and Mercedes-Benz AMG CEO Ola Källenius unveil this year’s Festival of Speed central feature, Gran Turismo 6 gamers will be able to update their game software simultaneously to see (and race past) the new giant sculpture before the Festival opens.

At 10pm (UK time) on 26 June, as the very moment of the official reveal, the digital version of the Goodwood Hillclimb will be updated. That means GT6 fans will be able to download the new version, and then drive the famous Goodwood Hillclimb course past the spectacular new tribute feature to 120 years of Mercedes in motorsport – amazingly before any of the real-life drivers get to do the same in the Festival of Speed shoot-outs.

GT6 creator Polyphony says it’s the first time in the game’s history that it has been technically possible to add content to an existing game on the market, and send a simultaneous message to all users. It’s also the first time the game has been synchronised with a live world event, which we’re all very excited about!

So see you online on Thursday 26th? We’ll probably be driving the SLS AMG GT3…

If you want to know why we’re so excited about the new Mercedes-Benz Central Feature in front of the house – sorry, we can’t talk about it yet!

As impressive as all those sculptures are, I can't help but think Jeremy Clarkson and Co. would have a field day using them in some kind of automotive destruction challenge. That Ferrari sculpture is a ripe candidate.

I know I'm extremely late to GT6 but just had to say how much I'm loving the new physics. They are a fantastic basis for GT7 to work from. Loving the new locales as well, especially Matterhorn.

£15 very well spent, no doubt about it.

Seeing the new DriveClub rain effects makes me wonder how Polyphony will even be able to top this, especially if they just plan on using the GT6 engine as a basis. DriveClub was created from the ground up for ps4 hardware.

The question is, can they top this at 1080p 60fps? GT7 will likely hold to this standard. As great as DriveClub looks, I do not think there is a question PD can produce visuals equally as "stunning". IMO GT7 will likely be similar in graphic style to GT6 (car detail>environments). I think tracks like Spa, Nurb 24hr and Bathurst are a good sign of things to come.

Personally, I would like to see a high car count (>16 we currently have). Something like 24-32 would be perfect.

My fear for GT7 is that there's absolutely no reason whatsoever for Kaz to suddenly start getting his priorities in order, no reason to suddenly start marrying his ambition with the hardware specs, and no reason to suddenly start implementing features properly without getting sidetracked and starting other ones.

I can see GT7 being yet another wildly inconsistent product, traversing the highest peaks and plumbing the deepest depths, staggeringly beautiful in places yet last-gen fugly in others, and flipping effortlessly between buttery smoothness and powerpoint slideshow.

I would love to be proved wrong but why should we expect anything less based on recent history?

They may have the technical ability, but they will cock it up with their rubbish work processes.

What's the point in the credit limit? I lost over 2,000,000 credits when I did the Senna race as I was a few k under 50M.

Not particularly bothered about it as clearly I didn't need them, but such a strange decision to just wipe them. Especially as they were 'worth' more than £16...

I'm still stuck under 2 million, but it's picking up now that I'm deeper into the career.

I've said it before but I'll say it again: I absolutely love the new physics in GT6 compared to GT5.

A.I. seems better too - or is this just my imagination?

Nissan VGT vid. Defo reading way too much into such a promo vid, but I do like the look of that foggy weather...
On the 16th of June, Nissan Motor Corporation and Gran Turismo announced their new “NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo”. The car will be added to the PlayStation®3-exclusive title "Gran Turismo 6" through a free update planned for July 2014.

The development of the car began by giving complete freedom to the young designers at Nissan Design Europe in London, UK. Their mission: to create the sportscar of their dreams. Nissan Technical Centre engineers then integrated their technical feedback to the design, forming a synergy between design and technology during the development cycle.

If I could gift you some of mine, I would :) Ended up buying that 20M Jag just so I didn't have to worry about it for a while, probably never even drive the thing!

"Nissan Technical Centre engineers then integrated their technical feedback to the design,"

Ha! "Listen lads, for the last time it's just not possible for it to change shape and go underwater and break the sound barrier, OK?"
