Anyone else getting a weird artifacting glitch when braking at high speeds near other cars?

This isn't new to GT6. I noticed similar artifacting in GT5 as well.

Holy crap, watching that dude's stream and just noticed you can see the guy waving the finish line flag now. That's a badass detail. The 3d crowds look pretty good too.

It sucks that I didn't get the pre-order bonuses from the PS store. It wouldn't let me add the game to my cart before midnight. :(

Can you use the pre-order cars in career mode?

The oil filter change trick is still there for undriven cars. Remember to change the oil for that extra HP.

Also anyone else find it hard to powershift into 2nd without letting go of the accel completely?

Okay, no trolling here, but I've got Forza 5 since launch on Xbox One, and sure it looks better, but the sheer amount of tracks cars, changing weather and day-night cycle is so awesome that I can't put the controller down. The only letdown are the carsounds...still too much Nilfisk.

Did the update make the clutch work any better?

I'd love to know this as well, but I'm not getting my hopes up about PD ever having a working clutch in GT...

Still blows my mind how they've ignored the issue.

If by fixed you mean if you can still shift gears while you have your foot on the accel? You can with about 1/4 accel pedal travel, you don't have to depress the pedal completely.

Can you refresh my memory? I kinda remember that... but I kinda don't.

After you get a new car (either buy or rewarded), go to Pit Service -> Change Oil

Does it slip back to neutral if you miss or just crunch?

My right leg is a little lazy after surgery and GT5 was so frustrating. Never had a problem with any other game.

Looking back, I felt somewhat concerned for GT6.

GT, being GT, has always been about polish and execution. Many of the new stuff GT6 was bringing to the table, aside from content, like the new rendering engine, etc... are basically a polishing of the things that GT had always been excellent at, which was the driving, modeling and scale of experience.

At the same time, Kaz was talking about things that were not going to be there on Day 1. The ambitious VGT will only start with one car, with the rest rolling out later. Course maker, GPS logger, later. Senna DLC, later.

Even the long-held complaints of the franchise in sound, and some in-demand features like livery editor had Kaz basically say "nope, not day 1." ( if it'll even come to GT6. )

Part of me was kinda afraid GT6 on Day 1 was going to be GT6 Ver 0.5, something that does not reflect the intentions that was put into the what the title wants to represent.

But looking at the impressions and reviews so far, I'm glad to hear that the heart of the franchise is at the right place. Despite the flaws, the game remains crazily ambitious, and excels where it has always, with a promise that the title will continue to evolve, with new content.

All road leads to SEVEN.

Same old same old....

GT needs a change

Couldn't agree more. It needs more guns, kill streaks wouldn't hurt either.

I caved, I am weak. Kaz you really are the bad girlfriend I keep going back to. It will be different this time right baby?

Only played three er four events and a coffee break, initial impressions are limited, but encouraging...or horrible depending where you sit on the GT fence. Haha.

Edit: For a point of reference. I play GT games to death, like, way too much. So anything about approachability or initial ease of play is going to be lost on me. Maybe the new starting format is refreshing for the GT casuals but it was annoying and completely lost on me. I just want to gold all licenses damn it! That is my jam when firing up a new GT game. So keep that in mind with the below points.

Edit2: Oh I forgot to add, in addition to cockpit only, I am also using my G27 100% of the time. I have no idea how much some of the handling characteristics translate to DS3.

Pros:
-Physics, feel and the tire model have substantially improved. FF cars, which used to be on rails of understeer, felt much more lively. Sliding the Miata around in the cone challenge with TCS off, and even the mandatory stability control on! it still felt night and day compared to GT5 in terms of letting you over cook it and get to the traction limit of the tires. Within the first 20 minutes of playing, I felt handling characteristics that have never been in a GT game, and absent or not as well executed in current big PC sims. We are mostly dedicated GT fans in this thread (well, the people who fill the GT threads in the years between launches), and clearly we have been content to overlook the faults of this franchise, otherwise GT3 would have probably been the last one we owned. As a "game" it has a lot of problems, many of them frustratingly obvious and present for over a decade. However, as a driving simulator, so far the driving model seems improved enough to warrant the purchase alone. Can't wait to hit up Bathurst in a BRZ :)
-Bumps/Curbs matter. I was understeering hard into turn one of Brands Hatch with my front left tire taking all the weight. I hit the outside curb on track out and it completely disrupted the balance of my car and I had to catch a nasty snap oversteer. Finally! The curbs more realistically impact your handling. You just can't eat them alive.
-Tire sound effect, well although almost exactly the same sounding at full screech, much more subtle sounds in between little and full screen including a better and more informative vibrato sound with heavy lateral loads. This seemed to have been missing or toned down in the demo.
-Very nice looking for a PS3 game, but see cons for the cost of that
-I guess the game menus aren't as shitty to navigate? Still seems pretty archaic
-The feel of the cars, so far, even with the sad little starter cars is much more lively

Cons:
-Yeah it looks amazing for a PS3 game but...the frame rate and tearing in cockpit view is atrocious. It is almost constantly at a level of the worst moments of tearing and frame drops in GT5 pre-patch. This is concerning, I started to get a headache from 30 minutes of game play. I am going to try 720p later today, but wow. I mean it is really really bad.
-Tired game design. Zero imagination. GT6 is a new trail through the same woods we all know by heart. Any hopes of a complete overhaul are going to once again be pushed to, "maybe next time" PD has no idea how to make the "game" part of these games.

-Sound is still shit, but we knew that. I do appreciate at least the more subtle variations of tire noises though.
-AI is dumb fuck awful garbage, but we knew that
-Feels out dated instantly. Nothing to do with the graphics, it is just their approach to game design. The ridiculous music, the substance-less flash at the cost of functionality, the idea that you can never have enough "cool" things and that more is always better. No amount of frame rate and P's are going to make this game feel next gen if it gets a PS4 port
-Still disappointingly limited menu options when in race or event pre-start menu.
-No adjusting of brake sensitivity. :( Really needs this for the lower class cars. I breath on my brake pedal and the cars are at full deceleration.
-That intro video? The fuck? It made Senna feel corny and cheesey, that takes some effort to do. I thought I was watching a kickstarter video for a charity, not a GT game.

If you thought everything was going to change, and this game would fix all the GT issues, you will be sorely disappointed. If you are aware of the faults GT has had for ages now, but still love the experience of driving in a GT game and want a new play ground with new toys and the best physics in a GT game to date? You will be more than happy.

Sounds like the Acadamy demo at 1080p, which also gave me a headache. 720p was much better, I understand it is the same here. You'd think they'd just make it a 720p game if it's as bad as you say (and I have no reason to doubt you).

My right leg is a little lazy after surgery and GT5 was so frustrating. Never had a problem with any other game.

It will crunch, it won't slip into neutral unless you are over the 1/4 gas pedal indicator thingy on screen. This works the same for downshifting as well, so heel-toes won't shift you into neutral as often as GT5.

You might have a problem going from 1->2 tho, I can't seem to shift without letting go of the gas completely.

So, now that some of you have been playing it: yay or nay? My husband has been a GT fan since GT2 and I've been looking forward to surprising him with this on Christmas. Should I buy it for him or not? If it meas he'll be swearing at the game through Christmas, I would rather not.
Definitely get it. Ignore the review scores. If he likes GT, he's gonna like this.

Have I gone insane?

Didn't this pic from the GT6 website used to have 'repair body damage' or something similar?

Also I thought amar said that their was persistent car damage between races, did the patch take it out?!

I am quite surprised to hear you say that actually. Fact is that fully patched (not sure how much of GT5 you played but the physics underwent changes via patches) GT5's suspension modeling was already in advance of anything short of Assetto Corsa. Its just that the tyre model was not quite right and PD never both to accurately model things like clutches, collisions and whatever.

But I have never in my life heard any PC sim racer acknowledge anything good about the simulation in a console game. But GT6's physics model deserves praise, its amazing given the right car and track. Racing the BMW Z8 around SPA I could feel exactly how much weight was on each wheel and know exactly how much grip I had. Pure joy.

Though somethings don't seem right. I can't for the life of me get a stock GT86 to get sideways on CS tyres which should be a match for its stock tyres in real. Though it is hard to do in real due to its lack of power, its not impossible. Still with these physics on day one I cant wait to see what the game ends up turning into...

It was never in the game. I think someone read it somewhere, like in an early manual. Nobody ever bothered to confirm it before saying it.

That is really sad to hear. I was actually encouraged that the demo from the summer had no screen tearing, but it did have big framerate drops. I can't believe they actually went back to the tearing from GT5. Amazing.

Screen tearing in a racing game is absolutely unacceptable to me. It's sad that Polyphony has just lost sight of this fact, all in an effort to make a game as pretty as possible. What a waste.

Also, the sound still being so bad, and the various hold overs from a decade ago are just shameful. I remember being stunned when I booted up the summer demo and the "X" button was gas by default. I mean, really? It's 2013, not 1999.

There is so much evidence of a team (and Kaz) being this insular bunch of people who just think they have nothing to learn from anyone else. They're basically convinced they know how to do these game right, and therefore nothing changes, because they know better.

I agree. Nothing will ever be perfect but very encouraging so far. I guess you don't know my dicatomy with GT very well. It is very love/hate post GT5. We all know what GT does great, and if you aren't in denial, we all know what it does horribly. As I mentioned a few posts ago, Amar has put into words far better than I could, what makes some of the GT handling characteristics unrivaled in any PC sim, because it tends to deal with the subtleties of stock road tires, and regular every day cars, not racing tires with racing cars, which the majority of racing sims deal with. Make no doubt, I was a GT die hard first and a PC sim racer second. My first wheel was with GT3. I get two completely different things out of GT games and a PC sim like iRacing. iRacing is about shaving tenths of a second, mastering a single car and intense competition. GT is about the joy of driving and the fun of playing with a fuck load of cars. Of course the two could benefit by stealing some features of each others games, but I am under no delusion of expecting the two worlds of PC sims and GT/console sims becoming indistinguishable. I get what I need from both, and it has worked out great for years.

If the suspension model was there in GT5 is was hidden behind the tire model, because everything has come alive in a big way with GT6. The cars don't feel overly grippy and I don't get the infinite understeer grip where you hit a certain point of understeer and you can just hold it indefinitely with the accelerator planted. The FWD car getting lose on corner exit curbing was thrilling and long over due. I don't think I have had fun in a FWD car in GT... ever.

How is the driving in comparison to Forza 5?
Like the physics and AI etc.
Debating whether to pick this up as well.

I may have become more sensitive to these things because I have been racing at 120fps/120hz for the last year. Others say 720p seems to help with the drops/tearing, I'll try that out later tonight. Also of note, I am playing on a PC monitor, which tends to make things a bit more raw. I am sure I will stop noticing after a while, especially if racing hard, but if frame drops and tearing are your personal nightmare, I would wait out a patch.

Edit: Also, again I only race cockpit. I have no idea how bad it is in other views. I will let others let y'all know about that, but I imagine cockpit is going to have the worst performance. It was the same in GT5.

Jeez, so much for the hope that the Academy demo framerate would be fixed in the full game. It seems like all GT6's graphical upgrades come at the expense of the framerate, and I just don't understand how framerate and V-sync can be such a low priority with PD. Pretty graphics count for nothing when they're spoiled by a choppy framerate.

I'm not convinced a patch is coming. Not at all. I think this is just how Polyphony does things now. Push things further than they should, and oh well, screen tearing and framerate drops. It's sloppy, and it's just how they roll these days. It's incredible to think they actually pushed the resolution even higher for this game, and to what end? More frame tearing? Why the fuck would you do that? It's just dumbfounding.

I'm not buying this game. Ever.

To be fair, they patched the shit out of GT5. The end result was far less tearing among many other improvements. This does not excuse its launch state, but less than ideal launch games is unfortunately the norm these days.

Edit: I feel strange even having to say this as I have no hesitations on calling PD out for their bullshit, but don't forget these are my initial impressions. We will have a pretty good consensus by the end of the weekend. And you can be damn sure I will have raced way more cars on way more tracks to let you know how constant these issues are.

Fuck this, the clutch problem still exists and it's very oft putting.

Man, the quality is all over the place. There's FR problems too.
There's plenty of content here but the familiarity is getting to me.

GT7 needs to get here soon and hopefully, it's a very focused and consistent game...

While they improved the performance of GT5 post-launch, they did it at the expense of the gameplay. 0 standing starts throughout the whole career is not really acceptable.

Yes, I was referring to that same official screenshot.

Body damage was not present in V1.00 and I read in manual it will be in the game, so it was logical to expect it will come in V1.01. And V 1.01 came and it still isn't there. I am disappointed, very.

I have to ask this again, because I was really hyped when they showed that screenshot.

We're talking about car damage that is carrying over from race to race, giving you a real feel about the whole car ownership philosophy.

Is that only visual damage? I could kiss a wall a bit too hard and the side would deform a bit, but I wouldn't get any tire or suspension damage? It's not mechanical in any way?

I've driving GT6 a couple of hours, unluckily only with the pad, and i feel it shows that it's not possible to best gt5. You up graphics, frame rate suffers.

I hope they'll find some solution but my guess is that it will be difficult.

Can't judge much on the phisics atm, but apart from the frame rate i'm liking this a lot.
