Gran Turismo 7 has been largely unplayable for half a day due to extended server maintenance (VCG)

Yeah, I know. That was posted yesterday. Almost 24 hours ago. That level of information is simply not good enough.

And what is supposed to be good enough?
They already acknowledged the issue and they're working on it.
A live feed stating every hour they're still working and they need more time is not going to change things, it's compulsive.

This is just the downside of online games.
GT7 is an always online title.
People will probably survive if they can't play a game for a day.

Sure - but that’s not the game they chose to make.

That game is GT sport which a lot of people didn’t like and said wasn’t a proper GT …
It's certainly true that the creative direction of a game is the creator's prerogative, but that wasn't what I was addressing. I was addressing the problem you wrote about having cheats from offline mode affecting online. If the creators wanted an offline mode but decided not to add it because they are afraid of cheats, then they should copy Diablo 2's model.
If they didn't add an offline mode because they simply didn't want one, then I have no constructive criticism to give.

Maybe I'm getting things confused but I thought people didn't enjoy sport's single player campaign, not the separation of online and offline progression.

Your time is free?

MTX is a trade off of time vs money.

GT7 is fun to play and so far, after about 30 hours in game I see no reason to pay money for credits and that was the same with GTS.

GT7 is already generous in fact I’d argue they could have increased the grind a little…

Credits aren’t infinite here so players have to choose how to spend their creots, otherwise it wouldn’t be much of a game would it? But the reality is credits come easily just through normal play (as do cars for that matter) and you’ll have a line up of super cars much quicker here than other GTs.

If you don’t enjoy the driving then sure - maybe you’d rather just pay to get the car you want. Luckily GT7 is a fun driving game, so if you don’t like driving in it then you don’t like driving games.
Wow, people were right when they said defenders would somehow try to twist this into being a good thing.

I'm sure PD will get their shit together and fix the outage. One thing that annoys me is that Evo Studios got shut down for having similar issues with Driveclub upon launch, but at least that game was playable offline, yet PD are going to keep on trucking without a single warning from Sony.

In an ideal world, I’d be pretty pissed at this (It is really poor in the context of things), but there’s so much shit going on at the moment that it seems in really poor taste. Still, if this is your biggest worry in the world, then fair play.

2) MTX is so expensive it’s a rip off! Um if you’d played the game you’d know that the GT7 “grind” is less onerous than that of previous GTs. I actually can’t see a reason why anyone who wants to _play_ the game would buy credits for real money right now. I can see why people who just want to ogle a particular car without grinding for it may want to jump the queue. As it is, this is probably the easiest and most fun GT to play in years, and the cars are thrown at you thick and fast along with enough credits to mod them without paying a real penny extra. If you were fed up with spending hours in 1000cc shit boxes in old GTs that’s gone, within the first few hours you’re given real raceable cars and enough money to mod them to max stats if you choose.

Good thing they just rebalanced the economy to make sure its more attractive this patch.

Also

The “concern” trolling over GT7 is epic - I guess the king is really back
In before someone comes in to say worrying about always online/MTX/GaaS is just "concern trolling"

Thank you so much for being that guy.

In an ideal world people who paid between 70 to 100 dollars or euros on a game shouldn't be locked out of it's single player component for almost an entire day this close to launch either.

Any serious company provides regular updates when they are experiencing downtimes. Almost 24 hours with no sign of life is not good enough, no matter how you try to spin it.

I assume the downtime is related to the earthquake that hit Japan the other day?

Not a good look, no matter the reason. They should make career mode available offline.

I know, but it isn’t going to kill anyone is it? PD have got some serious grovelling to do, but I still think the drama over this is not a good look in general. A serious case of first world problems.

They're going to give everyone a shitty free car and all will be forgiven.

It still not working this is a nightmare

I‘m genuinely not arsed or affected by the Mtx, but I do think the only sensible fix here is to remove the online aspect in some form because nobody can predict how online services can be affected. In the meantime, I’ll continue to be thankful that I can do something else.

Get a grip, the server down for half a day.

It's been over 24 hours.

You're in a gaming forum, in it's gaming subsection, in a topic specifically about a popular game not being playable on either PS4 or PS5 saying these things.

Get a grip man, lol.

It's been around 27 hours by now and not a single word from either Polyphony and Sony for over 24 hours at this point.
Also..."get a grip" is really dismissive since i can't play a videogame i literally bought...

This isn't the time for defending PlayStation. We need to call out these companies when they have to be. This IS one of those situations.

Elden Ring isn't just buggy, it hasn't even got a fixed frame rate. You lot talk like you don't have the internet
I mean I know about the framerate issues. People have turned that into a VRR issue though and play it with the lowest framerate and say it's acceptable.

Still don't see the framerate issue's relevance to this though but i get it, some things just get a free pass.

They posted the maintenance message 23 hours ago. Might post the same time today hopefully. This downtime isn't a good look and you should be angry but there is no need to exaggerate either.

Right now GT7 has a frame rate of one frame per day, or 0.0000016 fps
At least it's stable then *rollseyes*

Wait, I'm no SONY fanboy, but an XBot. I can live with GT being offline for a day or two myself. The game is good and at least its got a near 60 FPS update.

It's funny how VRR is coming into play more now . I've had VRR for over a year and get sick and tired of DF hardly bringing it up with frame comparisons

Maintenance is normal. But what isn't normal is making the game unplayable, and letting people know, the game will be out during the Maintenance.

That is what people are angry about.

I’m just giving my opinion on how big of an issue I think this is in the grand scheme of things. And to be honest, surely it would be more productive to complain directly to Sony, or PD. That’s what I plan to do, rather than harp on about it on here.

This is a game people spent $60-$70, and was sold as SP, before they made it online. And now people will have to live with game being an always online game, which can be down, due to server issues.

If this is just week 2, then I am afraid of what will happen in the coming months.

Oh...i'm sorry. I exaggerated for an hour. My bad. If they've been quiet for 23 hours only it's all good then. That's what we should focus on for sure.

You said over 24 hours. You were trying to make the point that it's been more than a day since any communication. It hasn't yet they might send a message same time today hopefully.

Take into account that Japan just had a major earthquake too. Polyphony moved their engineers because of the last 9.0 earthquake but kept the people who deal with online infrastructure in Tokyo where they are currently experiencing power outages because of the 7.4 one. Things will likely be slow.

Dude, who cares about the fps when you can't even play? Also, you are comparing this to Elden ring for what reason?
i have elden ring on ps5, and the framerate issues arent nearly as bad as people make them out to be, and you know what, i can play the game whenever i want, no worries about servers going down, unless i actually want to play the online portion.
Compare that to GT7, where you can only play a very limited part of the game, something that could amount to just a demo, on a game with a single player campaign that cant be played without net.
Are you seriously trying to make elden ring look worse when the issues arent even on the same level? You just make yourself sound pretty dumb-

Then why not a Sony message about it? "hey, you know the 70 dollar game you bought we locked behind an online connection? it's still down due to the japanese earthquake. we're sorry for this. here's 1M extra credits for you." I don't know...something.

Yep. It's fucking stupid. No matter what the pile of shit people like this always go against the grain for no reason whatsoever.

Hopefully there will be an update soon but I suspect there might be some bad news too with the time it's taking.

They've posted a message. Said it's due to a flaw in their patch, not the earthquake.
