Grand Theft Auto Movie Reportedly In Development

Sources close to WGTC – the same ones who told us a Resident Evil 4 remake is in development and Netflix is working on a Witcher prequel show, both of which were correct – say that the project is reportedly in the early stages and will loosely adapt the events of GTA V, presumably bringing us live-action versions of characters Michael, Franklin and Trevor. Unfortunately, though, that's all we've got to go on right now and can't say yet exactly what the plot will center on.

Whether this would lead to Ned Luke (Michael), Shawn Fonteno (Franklin) and Steven Ogg (Trevor) reprising their roles for such a venture remains to be seen, but we certainly can't imagine anyone else filling their shoes for a slice of live-action GTA V. We'll hopefully have more details to share on this one in the near future, but in the meantime, let us know what you'd like to see from a Grand Theft Auto movie in the usual place below!

This is a dumb idea. Outside of featuring the characters from V, what would make this a GTA film and not just a heist/crime film? What are the defining features of a GTA game:

  • Open world,
  • Changeable radio stations,
  • Open-ended mission design (debatable I know)
  • Vehicle and weapon variety

Not easy qualities to depict in a film.

Hollywood is making a movie based on the game series that mocked the Hollywood in the first place.

This will be successful... sure...

I guess they got around Ron Howard.

Why Hollywood Can't Make a Grand Theft Auto Movie – /Film

The whole point of GTA series is you are free to do whatever you want in it's open world, without that it just gonna be ordinary crime/mob movie.....it feels like they just want to make money based on the name alone.

Hollywood is starving for new ideas since they're running out of superheroes and remakes to do. Pretty sorry pick too.

These movies already exist under the series name 'Crank'

So a generic heist movie?

If it doesn't have satire and causing mayhem on the streets, then what's the point?

Oh right, name recognition. xD

A GTA movie about the worst GTA campaign in the series... wow
Its not the worst 🤭 i thought it was fun

But surely this should be the most expensive videogame movie ever made, with top actors, writters and directors anything less would be shitting on GTA legacy

I feel like GTA would be better as a Netflix series. There's too much to a GTA story to boil it down to a couple of hours and not feel rushed.

Makes sense to keep the brand floating in this hiatus, since it will be many, many, many years until we see GTA 6.

Lol just put the money of this project on gta6 instead, nobody want a shitty film about gta5...
Rather have GTA 6...

They make 2+ billion dollars a year from gta online. They have more money coming in than basically any other developer in the industry, except maybe blizzard. They could afford to just burn a billion a year and still bankroll gta 6 development for half a decade.

I mean yeah, but i would be more happy if they used all the money on gta6 instead of wasting times with this thing.
