Recently getting into GTA IV, I'm very happy about this.
I'm not a big GTA fan, so it's news to me that the old games were crazier and unrealistic. I hope R* goes that route this time.
(But my biggest hope by far is that it has a ton of different environments/areas like San Andreas.)

What engine did GTA 4 use, and is it well suited to bigger, countryside style expanses? I'm guessing that may not even be possible.

Something I've been wanting for years is real-time weather based on your location. Like, a background process that checks your local weather every five minutes or something and the game matches it. Is it raining outside? Raining in the game.

While I hope it's set in Vice City, I know that it probably won't happen.
What I truly hope though, is that GTAV won't feel like GTAIV and RDR. What I mean by that, is really just general character movement. I seriously won't buy the game if it requires me to tap A to sprint.

Just buying this for the radio and TV-stations alone. Shit was glorious in GTA IV. Even the haters have to admit that. I can't imagine how many hours go into the fake brands, commercials and stuff like that. Those things define GTA more for me than the gameplay. I just want to be immersed in a fake world. I want to WALK around a city, absorbing all the atmosphere, and not run around in it like a steroid idiot by default. Tapping A to run was a great design decision. Fuck The Haters. R* could make an option to turn that off though to please those people.
Walking around with your phone in hand along fake Times Square...good shit.

Bully had something like it, but not only was the world in the game significantly smaller, it wasn't real time, there were no Euphoria physics to deal with, that old Rockstar engine was never really a looker, etc. etc.
