This game officially makes GTA's sequel numbering system makes no damn sense.

GTA III --> GTA: VC --> GTA: SA
GTA IV --> GTA V
After the episodes from Liberty city they need to reboot the number and go with five or people would have think it's anoter addon or something similar to IV.

For the story, I would like to see a graduate (or educated) dude getting to work as assistant or personnal security for a major corporate / political figure and soon be wet in dirty jobs and compromise with tedious informations about illicit activities these people runs in the dark. He would ultimately tale over business from competitors and or from his boss. I would like to see a more white collar crime story than always small thugs

Maybe this game is such a leap that the number jump is required.

Probably not, I guess RS couldn't come up with a witty subtitle or the IV DLC were the "sequels".

GTA III is a trilogy; VC and SA are the spinoffs.

GTA V is the "next story" so I don't have any problems with that one.

GTA IV is the weird one because it's almost a reboot of III yet it's not.

GTAIII ----> GTA Vice City > GTASA
GTAIV ----> TLaTD > TBoTG
GTAV

That's how I see it, anyway. I know TBoTG and TLaTD aren't comparable to VC and SA but...

Wrong!

GTA III --> GTA: VC --> GTA: SA
GTA IV --> GTA: TLAD --> GTA: TBOGT
GTA V --> ?

Never mind where it's set, what about when?

So far we've had:

GTA - 'present day' (at the time, 1997)
GTA 2 - 2013
GTA London - 1969 (and 1961 expansion pack)
GTA 3 -'present day' (at the time, 2001)
GTA Vice City - 1986
GTA San Andreas - 1992
GTA IV - 'present day' (at the time, 2008)

Was totally gonna make this thread, but thought it might have already been done.
Didn't bother to check. Meh.

Hope this sees a release on the WiiU. Would do wonders for Nintendo.

Hope they don't try to cram it all on one disc again for 360. Annoyed me that they did that for 4 and had to limit asset quality and such to be "fair" to both consoles (at least PS3 got higher res TV ... heh).

Add me to the 80s/90s crowd.

The PS3 one performed worse, higher res assets would have meant even worse performance.

One rumor claims Los Angeles, another claims Las Vegas. All we need now is San Franscisco and it's San Andreas all over again.

Holy shit, Andreas is an anagram for Angeles en Vegas. Can't believe I just noticed.

I thought Gay Tony was the worst of the three stories. Luis was a fairly bland character, Gay Tony was great though.

GTA4 > L&D > Gay Tony

I will agree that GTA4 was not the best. But it spawned the best games to come from the series; Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony. I have GTA5 is made up of four separate characters in their own episodes that all come together in one story just like what GTA4 Episodes did.

You thought Luis was bland? Wow...I could see accusing him of being a lot of things, but bland? You must've thought Niko was dead.

I liked Niko. Luis was just kind of there, they touched on some mommy issues, but he seemed really flat to me. Johnny had to deal with being the effective leader and moving the organization in a slightly different direction, and seeing that all undone when Bill came back, I thought it was an interesting position to deal with, as was Niko's institutionally dampened morality.

Hahaha, that thick finnish "rally driver" accent.

yeah i'm finnish and the first thought i had was "lol sounds like a finn"..

i swear i don't speak english like that though! i can fool people with my near-perfect American english... sometimes at least.

I hope they go back to having the different gangs in different territories. One of my favorite things about GTA III was going into an area and seeing the different vehicles each gang drove. They also attack you too if you weren't careful.

That was a real pain once you killed the mafia boss. You drove through and they just fucked up your car in an instant.

I missed this too. It was in VC and SA but not quite the same.

Niko was probably my favorite protagonist I have ever used in a video game. His story was believable as was his motives for doing what he did. They didn't glam up the story just to do it and made things pretty dark and gritty. I felt like an immigrant who just got off the boat and it immersed me in that world.

Johnny was a close second. His story was also very real as he had his drug addicted sorta girlfriend to deal with plus Billy. The splits that ultimately happened within the gang were intense as well.

Luis - ehh, Gay Tony was the star of that episode to me. Luis had the whole backstory with being a Iraqi War vet, which was a nice touch, but his activities with his childhood buddies were a bit contrived.

"I am only doing these jobs to get out of this life."

*Kills 20 people*

"I do not want to be in crime anymore"

*Kills 10 more people*

(Having $ 100,000 on his bank account): "Yes, I will kill this guy, but only because I need the money so badly."

If that is the case, I hope its a repeat of the GAF SA reveal thread with people "not relating" and "not liking the orange tinting of the lighting", that was damn hilarious.

Aye, I long to relive the days where people can identify with an Italian plumber who defeats evil turtles, but a black guy is just too much to ask.

He was doing the jobs to get information on the traitors he was looking for so he could get his revenge. Wait, you aren't going to have any banter about the characters and story...forget it. If you somehow are let me know.

This reminds me of my friends' retort to me saying that CJ was my favorite character, and that I liked his story.

"So let me get this straight: CJ is framed for the murder of a cop that he did not kill. And then spends the next 40 hours going on a murder spree, killing thousands of gang members, hundreds of cops, hundreds of federal agents, hijacks a F-150 fighterjet, breaks into Area 51, and ignites a multi-racial gang war over Casino ownership in Las Vegas. All to make up for being wrongly accused of killing one cop."

All the while CJ is trying to "Get out" of that lifestyle and be a good guy. He argues that at least Tommy Vercetti accepts that he is a megalomaniacle mass-murderer trying to take over the mob by force.

Oh yeah in between every 10 missions or so he asked somebody "Oh, by the way, where is this guy?" and then he goes on with his senseless murder spree that does not make any sense logically.

I thought IV's story was really bad. I liked San Andreas, but story-wise, as pointed out above, it was horrible as well. At least in III and in Vice City, the main characters didn't even pretend to do all the killing for some sort of just cause.

I hope that in GTA V, we have another character like that, who is at least a believable criminal. Otherwise you might as well NOT make the main character a criminal if you want to tell another story...
