That one that took place in China.

Looked pretty awesome.

True Crime?
Got picked up by SquareEnix a few months ago. It's going to be released under a different name since Activision owns the license.

Oh nice.

I saw a video of it awhile ago and it looked very impressive.

Hoping that turns out good. Read some stuff about it that was really encouraging, which made the cancellation a lot more shocking since it kinda came out of nowhere.

Hope it gets super-polished and rocks.

They've pretty much covered all the metropolises. Not sure what new they could do that isn't already an existing city.
Paris, Shanghai, Tokyo, London, Dubai, Kenya...? So many possibilities let's not limit it to American territories. Rio de Jenero or however you spell that place in Brazil would be cool

I think R* could do a bloody fantastic version of New Orleans. Seems like they haven't really done a city like that (unless I'm forgetting something).

In the GTA-verse, isn't NO called Crescent City? That'd be neat.

For anyone interested on what's up with True Crime: Hong Kong, give this a read. It's from August, but it sums up the sale of the game from the SE and Activision sides:

I'm pretty excited about this game, if they get it right and polish it up a lot, it sounds like it's gonna be pretty awesome.

New Orleans would be fantastic, especially if they nailed the constant street parties, and expanded it out to Baton Rouge (roam LSU campus ftw).

Unfortunately, the money-esque logo doesn't call New Orleans to mind...it's not the richest of cities.

If it does take place in Los Santos maybe instead of letting you travel north to San Fierro, they can have missions that deal with drug cartels in Rockstars version of Mexico.

I'm all for the Southwest GTA but if we do get another Caleefornia game I'd hope SF would be there.

Lots of untapped potential.

I am really to hear this game got picked up. I was hyped about it til Activision canned it. Glad to see its getting another chance.

The green currency lettering pretty much confirms that GTA V is another US city.

I'm not as interested in where as I am in when. I'm hoping for the 80's again, Vice City had the best soundtrack. 70's would be nice too.

Dan Houser last week: "There are very interesting crime stories and other stories you can tell about any place in the world. Whether that would work with Grand Theft Auto — when so much about Grand Theft Auto is about the Americana, about the American media — is something I’m not sure about."

He doesn't outright deny it, but I don't think he is open to the idea yet. He doesn't want GTA to lose its voice and relevance to the majority of its audience. You could make a cool game in those places, no doubt, but would it really feel like GTA?

Sadly enough. This makes me sad that True Crime Hong Kong was canned
I thought someone else picked it up?

Ah, kinda.

"Square Enix picked up the publishing rights to the game after Activision originally cancelled it. United Front Games will still develop the title, but the game will most likely be renamed as Square Enix did not purchase the True Crime name rights."

Rockstar was one of the first confirmed partners when we were hearing all those cafe leaks right? I really hope that the Wii-U version of this game is a beast of its own, the controller could offer some cool gameplay opportunities (especially during the mini-games) and hopefully the Wii-U version will pack a noticeable leap in visuals compared to the ps3 and 360 versions.

Nope. I'm with you. While other cities would be cool I've mentioned before all the inside quips and humor would be lost on me. I don't know about most of the nuances of other countries outside what media and stereotypes have told me (besides Mexico which I've visited myself) because I haven't been there.

All I want is for it to not be set in modern times.

Past would be good.

But just an absurd thought... GTA future? Maybe 30-40 years? I don't know, I doubt it.

This is something that I can get behind. If they tackle the cartels in a serious way I am in. No guys wearing wrestling masks and shit.

I don't think that would work too well. It would loose a lot of its satirical edge and that's really one of the key characteristics of the GTA games.

hmm, since people love Vice City so much, any chance GTAV will have some sort of an 80s vibe even if it's set in modern times? you know, 80s radio station(s) and 80s style fashion stores and what not. so you could pretend it's Vice City if you wanted to.

i think it would be smart for Rockstar to go all out with GTAV, make it be like Vice City and San Andreas all at the same time. just include everything that has made GTA great. they've had plenty of time to cook up something incredible so... who knows.

all i really want is palm trees though. the trailer next week better show some palm trees.

The lack of excitement initially has taken over by hype just to see the world these guys and gals can build again. GTA4 was the worst in terms of setting for me (even if very detailed and well realized). A New Orleans or some kind of area with Gothic influence would be great.

Nah, you're in the majority. The 99% bro, feels good man.

There are three types of people who talk about GTA locations:
1) People who want GTA in their home town so they say stupid shit like, "MAN GTA OMAHA WOULD BE AWESOME," or "WILMINGTON DELAWARE WOULD BE THE BEST, JUST LOOK AT THE MONEY SIGN.. WILMINGTON HAS CREDIT CARDS, ITS DEFINITELY DELAWARE"
2) People who think that GTA is only about exotic or fantastic locales, and not the culture or story, so "GTA: Dubai would be great!!"
3) People who are smart and know that GTA will almost certainly be in the US, will be a major city, and that it has to be something different from just another "East Coast" city like Liberty City.

While I think that it's going to be L.A. and the West Coast, if I had to make an "out there" guess, I might think it could be any Southwest area with a heavy story around immigration and drug cartels. Nods to Red Dead Redemption, perhaps Rockstars best game, would be pretty neat.

Or how about it is based in the US but have a few story-based missions where you fly to a country in Europe or South America. Of course you would have to do at least 5 missions before-hand to get a legitimate passport together.

I still think south America is a good idea. Columbia or Venezuela. Plenty of class dichotomy and illegal activity

And make it like a Sierra Adventure game where if you're in Mexico and you make the wrong move, it's instant death.

I'm with you on that, I would probably lose interest if it was somewhere else other than North America.
