Okay, so I saw a fe articles saying that GTAV would be released coinciding with a console launch, to promote the system, especially regarding the time developement started and how far on it is. So the two obvious suggestions were Vita and WiiU...

Now which is less likely - a AAA title which will see majority sales on console/PC, debuting on a handheld gaming system, or GTA finally being on a Nintendo console? Nintendo knows they need it.

GTA V on the Wii U & Libery City Stories-esque version on the Vita 6-12 months later.

They won't wait that long for Vita.

Imagine if GTAV was exclusively shown at Nintendo's conference at E3. Wouldnthatbesumthin.

I don't think it would make much sense to announce this game today, while the Wii U itself is thill shrouded in mystery (Iwata said yesterday that they're showing the final form factor at E3 2012, hopefully). Let alone a console we still don't even know if it even exists (PS4, X720).
Vita on the other hand... could be, but it's true that even if handheld are now considered full fledged games on par with home console ones I would see as a bit weird such a huge announcement (they have drawn attention from every magazine with just a logo) for a handheld, as powerful as it might be.

that's just me in denial, by the way

If Amazon's anything to go by, GTA V is a PS3/360 title.

And to answer your question, its the handheld which would less likely.

Deus Ex is not an open-world game in the style of GTA at all
Yeah I know. I mean I'm happy to have Deus Ex only can have this style. GTA stay same period of times.

I don't mind Rockstar's futurist openworld anytime one day but not GTA property.

There's no doubt the final version will be at E3. It will likely be sold quickly after too - August/September is my bet. It all depends what the trailer shows in a couple of days. If it looks near complete, then maybe not. But seeing as they only just announced it recently, it could well be 8+ months away.

The vast majority are severely underestimating Rockstar. Their intent from its inception would have been to simply floor fans like never before, have them literally reeling in anticipation. One very obvious goal - the perfect GTA.

Rockstar are more than capable of accurately foretelling a major step-up in overall quality/quantity from THQ and the Saint's Row team. It's absolutely no coincidence this trailer is falling in early November, within mere weeks of Saint's Row: The Third hitting shelves. There's only one way to execute a blatant preemptive strike such as this, the announcement trailer must absolutely deliver in spades:

GTA V will take place in not only San Andreas, but Vice City and Liberty City as well. This will result in a swift coup de grace of the entire Saints Row series. With the tenth anniversary of GTA III upon us and this being Rockstar's crown jewel, come launch fans will experience Grand Theft Auto nirvana.

Damn man, you really know how to hype the freak out of me. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight after reading what you just wrote.

This sounds like it came out of GTA bible...I'm ok with this!

That would be so awesome if they actually did that. Only if they brought back some of the memorable characters. I'd love to see how a lot of those guys have changed since.

But will it be fun? Or will I get 3 cities with nothing to do instead of 1?

Won't happen. Game needs to sell a lot of copies.

I'm sure if they do three cities, you'll have basically different kinds of gameplay in each. One would have a countryside for sure.

But I personally think the game will be set in Vegas: city, desert, hookers, strip clubs, casinos, hotels, unlimited gameplay possibilities.

Too bad they already did the Lost and Damned.
GTA: Sons of Anarchy would be pretty sweet
I don't know, TLAD was pretty average and bored me most of the times. I would've been pissed if I had bought it separately.

It definitely was, I agree. But I mean I think it's too soon to do it again, and hopefully make it better. Which is a shame.

Since they already have the tech made (gta4, rdr) surely it should be more polished and more effort on the gameplay?
I bet it will be. And be even more expansive. It could be R*'s grand send off for this gen, ala San Andreas.

So to this point, what clues do we have on the location ? Voice actors resume stating for Los Angeles ? The V making people think it's DC ? That's it ? It can pretty much be everything or nothing (but it's rockstar so I guess no major surprise)

I think that's pretty much it. Rockstar keeps their shit locked down.

I remember the L.A. Noire trailer leaked a couple days early. Maybe we'll get a glimpse early by way of something like that if we're lucky.

doubt it

New rumors from 4chan. Poster claims he has connections to Rockstar. Via: http://saveandquitgaming.com/xbox-360/grand-theft-auto-v-rumors-abound/. Take it with salt etc. etc.

-The protagonist is Hispanic and his name is Adrian.
-It takes place in San Andreas in 2012. The Mayan end of the world is parodied a lot because of this.
-You start out in Los Santos and are in your rival’s turf, Varrios Los Aztecas, after getting beaten up and robbed.
-The game revolves around money in a big deal. I’d reveal the big idea, but I don’t want to ruin it.
-Multiplayer is in again. There are a couple of new game modes, co-op story, and 32-player game modes for consoles and 64 player for PC. PC also includes dedicated servers.
-PC comes out on launch and is being ported by Leeds. From what they have shown us it is optimized much better than GTA 4.
-San Andreas includes all the same cities from GTA SA and this time they have all became ab it bigger as well as much more detailed.
-Gang turf wars are back. This time not only the general gang are in charge but different sets such as57th Ballas or the Eastside Azteca. They have their own graffiti. You can tag up stuff with custom sprays now too.

Apparently, there are spoilers in this next batch (I didn't look at em', so I can't be sure), so I've just blacked out the whole thing:

-In the end your protag dies once again like in RDR. Afterwards you play as his brother who inherits the money.
-”The money” I refer to comes from a massive drug trade that ships to San Andreas. Its fought over a lot throughout the story and it comes with lots of money. It has ties to your family so it becomes a bigger deal.
-The timeline continues off of GTA 4. It is referenced a lot. I’m not really sure whether Niko dies but he’s mentioned at least twice.
-Car modding is back so is lowriding of course.
-There are 9 radio stations. It features a range of music. Some of the rap is new, some is old. There’s a better selection than GTA 4 though IMO.
-Military has returned in the 6 star wanted level except they are referred to as National Guard.
-Cover system is upgraded and plays more smoothly.
-The moral decisions you saw in GTA IV have more effect on the story now. There are at otal of 4 unique endings. 2 bad, 2 good. Whether the protag dies in all of them you’ll just have to figure out since the endings are actually pretty cool.
-More girlfriends.
-Parachutes.
-Fun cheats are back!

Everything sounds great, I hope it's true, if it is, this would make the second time that a Rockstar game was spoiled for me. Someone on isketch spoiled RDR's ending for me :(

Sounds okay, but I better be able to gank some kids BMX and ride around, or no sale.
omgyes they better bring back bicycle riding.

Hmm, one thing I've noticed in this thread is, when talking about where could the location could be, most point to a single city. Why not the whole United States or maybe locations scattered around the world?

That literally just sounds like San Andreas HD. I guess that is a good thing, but most of it reads like a direct response to fan criticism of GTA IV. I guess I expect a little more from Rockstar than that (if it's true).

That's a lot of highway to drive.

I would love the shit out that. Loved San Andreas, that setting plus more detail = Amazing. Whether it's true or not, I can't wait for Wednesday.

Wherever it ends up being, I really want expansive areas back. I can't count the amount of hours I spent just wandering the forests and deserts in the middle of the night looking for weird shit in SA. I want that sense of exploration and mystery back.

It always amuses me how people are making requests to Rockstar 5 days before the trailer is released.

Sam: "Hey Dan, DennisK4 just made a post on NeoGaf saying that the next GTA should be set in the future"

Dan: "Brilliant idea. Quickly issue a press release that the trailer is cancelled and the next GTA is delayed indefinitely".

Sam: "Will do. I'll make sure all the work from the last 18 months is wiped from our servers, so we can start afresh"

I really think if, or when, R* does a cyberpunk GTA like game it'll be a new IP, as it should be. They could've easily called RDR GTA Redemption or called LA Noire GTA Noire and milked the IP to all hell and back. A future cyberpunk open sandbox game from Rockstar would be a new IP IMO. Right now they have their hands full with GTAV and Agent, or is GTAV = Agent? Hmmm
