Avatar is best looking game this year without any doubt, snowdrop engine is amazing,.Hellblade looks like a fantastic graphical contender for next year.
But that Avatar game is running 2 RT implementations even on console in its Performance mode. Should get nods for this year.
Far Cry yes. Already confirmed. Please tell me that the new ac and fc are both made with this new engine...
Completely different style of games. I would compare it to last gen Hellblade to get a better idea of the improvements. Avatar is set in the forest, is open world, and is first person. HB2 should be compared to something like callisto, AW2s linear levels and maybe Plagues Tale. I think it looks better than both callisto and AW2.I need to see hellbalde 2 during morning and direct light to tell if it looks better than avatar tbh.
I look exactly like henry cavill in a room with no lights...
Nah, we compare small games with open worlds all the time, graphic is graphic.Far Cry yes. Already confirmed.
AC, probably not. But the AC engine is amazing. Unity, Origins, Odyseey and Valhalla all look stunning. The engine just needs to be updated. The leaks also suggested a big focus on destruction so i have high hopes for it.

Sure. But its a game with no foliage so how do we compare the foliage? Its mostly empty areas vs this massively detailed dungeon. The art style is completely different. Dark vs colorful. its third person vs first person so cant compare animations. It makes just no sense to compare it to Avatar. its like comparing avatar to cyberpunk. who wins?Nah, we compare small games with open worlds all the time, graphic is graphic.
For what i've seen, hb2 is slightly more impressive than avatar at his best, but i actually played avatar and only saw dark, ultra curated trailers for hb2.
How close is to photorealism? this is the major parameter for all the realistic looking games, avatar is located in an alien planet but it still goes for a realistic style.Sure. Damn, now I really have to get over my fear of Ubi and play Avatar, to me to this day nothing in real time beats that CP lighting, if we're talking realistic. Just some parts of the GTA trailer, but that's a long way, who knows until that time. How close is to photorealism? this is the major parameter for all the realistic looking games, avatar is located in an alien planet but it still goes for a realistic style.
If that sound too broad then asset quality, light quality, geometry, etc.
Btw i like avatar more than cyberpunk, one looks better than any pic you posted, the other looks nothing like the pic people post, easy choice for me.
Characters are better in cyberpunk tho.
Shit if avatar had characters on par with the locations, nothing would beat it.
2 things:Damn, now I really have to get over my fear of Ubi and play Avatar, to me to this day nothing in real time beats that CP lighting, if we're talking realistic. Just some parts of the GTA trailer, but that's a long way, who knows until that time.
I hear you, me neither for the first thing, actually I was quite against it at first, one thing more, I've said it before, I'm far from a fan of CP, a fan of Witcher, that's it.2 things:
i'm not an rtx nutjob, i'm not impressed by advanced light systems\reflections, so cyberpunk probably has better lights than avatar.
Second thing, gta6 for me is not impressive for the graphic, but for other things, i never for a moment thought that it looked photorealistic except maybe 1-2 shots.
Please tell me that the new ac and fc are both made with this new engine...
Oh i know that light are importants, i just care way more for what is underneath.I hear you, me neither for the first thing, actually I was quite against it at first, one thing more, I've said it before, I'm far from a fan of CP, a fan of Witcher, that's it.
I agree with this GTA take, but watching the trailer multiple times, some of the lighting is really realistic, which surprised me, that's why I said that some parts.
Where I disagree a bit, if one could say that, is that lighting is really important. Ok, so are the assets, physics, textures, animations, but a flat looking game is awful looking, if you have great lighting and accurate colors you can mask a bit of the shortcoming in those other areas. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not saying that this is the way or anything.
I preferred HFW over Cyberpunk for a whole host of reasons, and not all of those reasons apply to Avatar. character models, cinematics, animations etc. But Avatar is just so much more dense and rich in level of detail that I have to go with cyberpunk as second best again. I guess third best now.How close is to photorealism? this is the major parameter for all the realistic looking games, avatar is located in an alien planet but it still goes for a realistic style.

You did good this year.P.S To that post above, not gonna lie, this year has been exhausting. Defending FF16 then Starfield then Forza and Spiderman 2 back to back was rough lmao. There were a couple of weeks where I even took shit for saying AW2 is set to become the next graphics benchmark but thankfully most people here were able to see that once the game came out, and now again with Avatar. The rest of the forum is still a fight and exhausting simply trying to prove Avatar has more foliage than HFW. I just dont get it. AW2 vs TLOU2. Forza vs GT. Starfield vs Cyberpunk. Why does everything turn into system wars. Why cant we just appreciate graphics advancements these games have made.
And I get it. graphics can be subjective and the gulf between PC and consoles is ever increasing, but there are things that are objectively better in these games like traffic density in spiderman, asset quality in starfield interiors, weather effects and trackside detail in Forza, foliage in Avatar but simply saying those things is considered trolling and it kills any potential discussion thats worth engaging.
Waiting for John from Digital foundry:Avatar Pandora, Series X Quality mode.
Aside from a slightly softer look, this virtually looks identical to my 4k DLSS Quality footage. Same amount of foliage. Same lighting quality. Same rock quality. GymWolf wtf is wrong with the rocks here? They look fine to me.Avatar Pandora, Series X Quality mode.

Maybe the reflections are a bit more shimmery here but im also running reflections at medium so its probably console equivalent. I might have better shadows and AO as well, but i will have to go back and confirm. Honeslty, i wouldnt be surprised if the XSX is running a mix of medium and high settings here just like I am.
Let me know what you think of the pop-in when you get your flying ikran. I was mesmerized by the speed boost but that also causes pop-in. Its vram dependent and since my 3080 is basically as bottlenecked with vram as the PS5 and XSX, you will probably see the same pop-in while flying. During walking and running, i dont see any pop-in on the ground, only on distant tree shadows so they did a phenomenal job minimizing it.
Get used to it. The whole game is like this. From quests to controls and design choices, everything feels like it couldve been more polished and streamlined. It sadly has all of the pitfalls of the first game in the series where the developers are still trying to figure out what works and what doesnt.Sure, I just started, will post some flying mount pictures too when I get there.
So far my biggest gripe with the game is the controls, too many mechanics and not enough buttons. Could have used a bit of streamlining.

Are these using the unobtanium settings and photo mode? Here for comparison Avatar on PC, looks great.
No, its Ultra Settings in 4K Ultrawide (5160*2160) with FSR Balanced, Frame Generation and ReShade. Are these using the unobtanium settings and photo mode?
I tried fsr and i thought it was terrible...No, its Ultra Settings in 4K Ultrawide (5160*2160) with FSR Balanced, Frame Generation and ReShade.
And yes photo mode, but no filter or any settings, just no HUD.
Spent all night last night flying. Disappointed by the abundant pop-in but the speeds are much faster than horizon. Especially when boosting. Oddly enough when you are closer to the ground, the pop-in isnt that bad. Still, i was hoping for a nanite like solution. Spiderman might be using last gen assets but has no pop-in whatsoever.SlimySnake
Got the mount, aside from noticing more pop-in when boosting, doesn't look like much difference.
It is not "much" faster cmon.Spent all night last night flying. Disappointed by the abundant pop-in but the speeds are much faster than horizon. Especially when boosting. FSR is surprisingly clean. I was impressed. I only noticed a little bit of image breakup when turning really fast. Otherwise its fairly identical to DLSS quality and you get 50% more fps thanks to FSR3 framegen.I tried fsr and i thought it was terrible...
only capcom cares about that shit. Monster Hunter has always been a portable franchise from its vita and 3ds days. Good luck getting AW2, Avatar, Star Wars Outlaws, GTA6, hellblade 2 running on the switch at any resolution above 360p. These games are barely running at 720p on a 4 tflops series s. On a 2 tflops handheld (best case scenario) they will run worse than the steam deck versions.Switch 2 is gonna do what series S was bashed for.
Next monster hunter is the first of many titles that are gonna look like shit to run on a switch 2 fucking tablet.
Bets are off for who is next...

I tried for like 30 sec, noticed the disgusting ghosting on the ui while moving, noticed the lower iq and switched faster than light.FSR is surprisingly clean. I was impressed. That said, i went back to it immediately after playing a combat encounter when the framegen introduced all kinds of screen tearing as soon as the framerate went below 90 fps. No idea if its a bug but i went back to dlss quality and settled for 50-60 fps but a far more stable image.

They are still slow in the ps5 dlc tho.100%.
The flying mount in Horizon was likely deliberately kept very slow for the PS4 to be able to keep up.
So i actually took an avatar video to test this last night and just uploaded a horizon speed test. Avatar birds can travel 1 km in roughly 25 seconds. timestamped below. From 2:00 - 2:25 it covers 1km ingame. It is not "much" faster cmon.
It still register as pretty slow overall, sense of speed is not there compared to spidey and i'm pretty sure that a fucking alien bird should fly faster than a dude swinging webs...
The have a map that is like 5x times the map of spidey but the traversal is nowhere as fast.

horizon's birds took over a minute and a half to do 900 meters (though the icon shows as feet but 900 feet are 270 meters so it cant be that slow.) lets assume its meters and its basically 3x as slow as avatar.
I will do some more tests today when its not fucking raining in horizon. it always fucking rains in plainsong like its botw.
It's fair because we do that with every game so it's not like hb2 get a better treatment. Why do people count trailers as if the game was released? Hellbalde is best looking just because you saw a trailer? Do you understand that if we go by trailers than Dokev and Star Wars Outlwas are best looking games
Outlaws Probably going to end up looking better, if it's anything like avatarWhy do people count trailers as if the game was released? Hellbalde is best looking just because you saw a trailer? Do you understand that if we go by trailers than Dokev and Star Wars Outlwas are best looking games
Obviously the assumption is that they will be best looking when the come out and havent been downgraded. Why do people count trailers as if the game was released? Cars looks like 2 gen better than the cars in spidey 2, terrible, lmao.Lol "good"? That reshade reflection crap always look terrible
Do cars in dedicated racing games ever looked this fucking good?
What in the absolute fuck is this thing?
Credit to sendit
People lose their mind for every piece of metal being a fucking mirror but this is where you draw the line?Wayyyy too shiny
People lose their mind for every piece of metal being a fucking mirror but this is where you draw the line?
I mistaken being shiny with being overly reflective, do you think they look at least better than the cars in the gta6 trailer?I don't know what you're even referring to honestly, what every piece of metal being a fucking mirror and who is losing their mind over that..
PBR materials have changed the graphical quality game. The mod for GTA5 is neat but feels like a gen behind. Not even comparable to dedicated racers.
