Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Really digging the look of this. Just need to incorporate a CRT filter over it

He gave more details and footage 2 months ago

It's not just lowering resolution, to achieve always a pixel art look when stationary you need some strong algorithms and maths to have a certain look but in 3D.

I imagine he'll put a lot of options for the esthetics of the game.

I'm just giddy that its basically Thief 1 inspired.

path tracing has really saved this game. it always looked fantastic but there were aspects of the game that were severely undercooked that brought down the entire presentation. ray tracing fixed some of it, but it still had issues. now though? even the NPCs finally look great. those alleyways that looked like they were lacking shadows even with rt shadows on are now properly lit or rather properly darkened.
Yeah, it really gave it a major facelift. You can take screens of the most boring locations and it looks amazing.

The game shows its problems with the awful draw distance and when in open areas, like on the hills around the city and in the middle of the day, it looks rough even with path tracing.

One of my favorite things about UE5 is that it's really helped usher forward the reemergence of quality AA titles. So many great looking low-to-mid budget AA games from small teams on UE5.

Playing Metal Eden the last few days and it looks fantastic:

Thats how proper metroid would look like if ninny didnt opt out of arms race back in 2006 with wii launch :P

I played this game at launch and was less than impressed because I had to rely on SSR. Lumen was entirely broken, didn't seem like denoising was working. Been fixed?

Ya'll, I had the urge to play MW19's campaign again after what, 7 years of the game being out? It honestly made me sad, even as someone who isn't a hardcore Call of Duty fan, as this game genuinely feels like the "Arkham Knight" of its franchise. What I mean by that is, MW19 genuinely looks like it can pass for an FPS that released this generation, minus maybe a few aspects that are beginning to slightly show their age (I am playing through it on a Series X, so I'd have to see how the game looks when pushed on my PC).

No other modern COD, minus perhaps MW2, and Cold War, has matched the level of fidelity and sheer technological showmanship that MW19 has. Like, where did this kind of graphical prowess go? Everything else in recent years has been the most bog standard, and sometimes outright unappealing looking slop I've seen in the FPS space, both from a gameplay and graphical perspective. MW19 looks like a next/current gen COD, despite being a 7 year old product.

Bro, even Advanced Warfare (2014) looks solid. It's probably textures and resolution that looks dated, but the detail, asset fidelity and lighting look modern (but not PT level) to my eyes on this YouTube video:

Metal Eden is great full stop, a lot of fun. Reflections a weak point though imo, either software lumen blobbiness or SSR. I wish Hardware lumen was an option, I even tried to mod it in but it causes severe artficating.

With dlss 4.5, path tracing and top of the line tv\hdr finally cyberpunk look 1\4 as good as your cherry picked pics here in the topic.

Maybe in 20 years i'm gonna be able to replicate those pics :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I just starting playing SW Outlaws since i got it for 10€ in the Ubishit store during xmas sale.
To be honest, i didn't expect a great game after the launch disaster BUT i have to be real, i am actually enjoying the world and having fun with the game (minus some stealth mission annoyances).
The graphics the Snowdrop engine is pushing here is quite insane at times, looks as good or very close to Cyberpunk pathtraced but with higher mesh quality etc.
Performance is still a bit rough with RTGI and RT Reflections on, even on a 4090 with FG, but it's very playable.
Image quality is excellent with transformer model DLSS and biased mode on (downscaling from 4K on a 1440P display).

It's gonna be on gamepass tomorrow so i recommend everyone to give it a try, if only for the visuals :D

SW Outlaws is great, such a shame it got shat on by people that never even played it. Snowdrop is used brilliantly too.

Outlaws was always a good game. People just like hating on everything Ubisof does because they think they look cool and smart by doing this.

Maybe you just don't like something about the game's visuals or style.

It's not surprising. Would you enjoy it for 70?
I don't buy games for 70€ :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Why not use DLAA?
DLAA is basically unplayable FPS with RTGI and RT reflections on. I mean, unless you like playing at 30-40ish FPS.
I'm targeting at least 60 before FG and that is already borderline for me.
So the sweetspot for me is upscaler mode biased (1440P display, doesn't matter on a 4k display since this options targets 4k res internally) with DLSS performance (preset M).
Crisp and mostly stable image quality with ok FPS (110-140 with FG).

Outlaws was always a good game.
The world building sure, but not gameplay wise. They fixed ALOT since launch. Nerfed the stealth sections among other things.
Yeah, I really enjoyed it. Best use of star wars lore in years.
Yep, kinda feels like playing a female Han Solo.

It looks amazing, maybe the lore and story too, but the gameplay was awful, the stealth was broken. And I'm not a Ubi hater, I actually enjoyed AC Shadows and think it's a decent game at least.

But this one, as I said, too bad I didn't record my session, but it was something like this video or worse, enemy losing your sight near you or not reacting, tons of bugs, with this one it wasn't just people hating the game for the sake of it.

Outlaws looks amazing. Wait till you get to other worlds. Really impressive stuff.

The only complaint i have is that they downgraded the shit out of it from the very first reveal. We all expected it, but the changes were really lame. Like moving liight sources, faking character animations, cg quality blur and volumetric effects. stuff that you shouldnt really do for gameplay sections if you cant afford to put in the final game. especially since they went in and added path tracing. i would rather they add back the missing effects from this gif.

As per usual.
I'm really looking forward to The Division 3, i think it will look glorious. Imagine Division 1 with RTGI, reflections and higher mesh quality.

Nah, i played at launch and it had a lot of problems, it was the quintessential 6\10 ubisoft game.

I doubt it's more of a 7\10 now if you use a complete scale where 7 is not a 2\10, story, characters and some gameplay choices still suck asses even after patches.

You could add a point if you really love sw but disney did an outstanding jobs in not making me care at all for the brand anymore.

How do you get that from my post?

What i say is that at 4k, maxed out, the game in my oled tv never looked as pristine as those pics, and cyberpunk is the game where i notice the biggest discrepancy between pics and what i see with my eyes, it is super strange.

I would fucking love if i could play with the graphic of your pics but i can manage to get that on my setup, no matter how much money i throw at it :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

My hunch is that screenshot softwares add some sort of filter that perfect the image in some way or another.

i think massive made two gorgeous looking ultimately hollow games that flopped because they simply didnt get the gameplay right. say what you will about ubisoft games, but they all had solid gameplay. same cant be said about avatar and outlaws. massive shouldve worked with ac devs to try and figure out the ubisoft formula before deciding to work on two single player open world games. Get a designer from the Splinter cell team to help with stealth, get someone from the AC and Far Cry teams to help add new skills that actually change the way you play the game, and hire some sony guys to do proper cutscenes and maybe it wouldve been a great game.

the thing is that while the gameplay had its issues at launch, a lot of the hate came earlier due to politics and other internet gamer outrage. these retards dont really play games. they dont care about graphics, gameplay, or the fact that this was a single player game that was greenlit in an era where everyone was going GaaS. they decided this was the next game to target and make some quick bucks while farming engagement.

i can understand the complaints but i cant stand the outrage and the boycotts. the KCD2 thread on the first page is basically the same. i get it. henry wasnt gay in the first game, and fans feel betrayed but its fucking optional and the game is fantastic otherwise. on era just yesterday, this dude was upset at everyone for outlaws flopping, then said that he didnt play the game at launch and only got it 6 months ago. well, fuck you, you are the problem. games live and die based on the initial sales. it flopped because you didnt give it a chance and now we will never get a sequel.

90% of twitter is full of people talking about how graphics havent improved since batman arkham city. and yet none of these buffoons played outlaws. 90% of them only just started playing avatar two years after launch. i will never understand boycotting games for politics or reasons other than gameplay. hell, i play half of these games knowing the gameplay sucks just because i want to reward devs who went above and beyond with the graphics. i am brutal in my assessment of the game, but i make sure to buy them.

It's always like that with Ubisoft, they're master bullshitters. It's almost a generational difference.

Best looking level was tatooine, also best sand tech in the business (not by much but a step further the yellow snow of forbidden west)

I played it quite a while after release and I understand they patched and tweak it quite a bit, so perhaps that's why I'm more positive about it. It was a good base to build off and I'd love to see a sequel but I doubt we will.

At launch the stealth completely lacked consistency and although i'm a big fan of ai that can surprise me, stealth game with immediate failure state should not do that (they werent even smarter, just different type of dumbs)

It wasn't even hard, just annoying.

it looks that clean on my setup. i can only do dlss performance at 4k on my 5080 and it is mostly 50-60 fps with the new transformer model. looks much better now. ghosting is gone. it was a an annoyance of mine with Path tracing no one talked about. but the transformer model fixes it. the transformer model itself had issues with zebra crossings and some other objects which are no longer there. must have been patched.

switch time of day to night time and hope it rains. the reflections everywhere are insane. neon lights make the world come alive. day time is very similar because the game was designed to have baked lighting. only the undercooked areas like alleyways get a big boost in visuals in PT during day time. but night time is like wtf.

try this. you have a 4080, right? turn off every single ray tracing setting. play with baked lighting, just on DLAA using the transformer model. see if it improves the IQ. the RT noise should be completely gone, i wonder if you are just more susceptible to RT noise than others. its like film grain and chromatic abberation. i cant see it but most people see nothing but that grain. RT noise to me was extremely apparent in the early path tracing builds. they've done a decent job masking it since launch, but its possible its still there and you just notice it more than others.

Dude read my previous post again, i'm already using the best upscale in terms of iq, and i tried every possible combination already, from no rtx to rtx psycho to PT, i don't even know if clean is the right word, the game just never look as good as some of the pics i saw here, 70% of the times it looks ok\good but not generational like the pics you post, it is beyond bizarre.

This is why i think you people cherry pick the shit out of this particular game.

I have close to 300 hours with the game, rain or time of the day is not the problem unfortunately.

What is the easiest method to take quality pics without installing external apps? i need you to see what i see...

Nonsense, i completed the game on the hardest difficutly and in every topic about people complaining about the game being too hard you can probably find my post saying otherwise.

The stealth being bugged and acting like crazy made things extremely annoying at times but the game is a cakewalk otherwise, the game lacked consistency in its stealth system so an action wasn't always followed by the correct reaction, there are probably hundreds of videos about the state of the game, defending the technical state of an ubisoft game at launch is not the hill you wanna chose to die, fucking believe me :lollipop_squinting:

Hell i was even explainimg other people how to use the stealth, slimy can testify, he didn't even know how to use the rat for a "consistent" double\triple takedown.

the thing is that the other worlds have that kind of wind tech. so not sure why it had to be downgraded. if its more expensive to run with these snow effects than just make it a setting.

same goes for volumetric lighting effects. the game can handle it. we see it in other areas. they just put a cover on the windows on the left side to block a new light source from lighting the alleyway, they closed the door so that no new light comes in from that building, they changed the color of the ceiling light to white, removed the fire, etc. just lame. its like devs went out of their way to make this area look ugly. like have some self respect, leave this as is. this was your first look of the game.

space marine 2 had a similar downgrade where they really toned down the volumetric effects. Just tie it to a setting on PC guys.

I can't speak to Outlaws but I liked Avatar's gameplay a lot, movement and combat felt really good for a Ubisoft game, and the map was a blast to traverse and explore. It's my favorite Far Cry since FC3. Maybe I like it because it's simpler, I dunno. The Ubisoft formula lost a lot of its luster to me as the games kept getting bigger and filled with more time-wasting shit. I used to be the biggest Far Cry fan but FC5 and FC6 lost me. I recall Avatar doesn't have much going on in terms of stealth but that's fine with me. I hate that goddamn sitting in a bush throwing rocks to distract enemies "gameplay" although I'm sure tons of people bemoaned its de-emphasis. Actually I guess I can't disagree with your take. I can get why a lot of people didn't like Avatar's gameplay, maybe for the same reasons I did like it. But I'm grateful it was the way it was.

Avatar was fun for the first 7-8 hours before you realize that mission variety and especially enemy variety were absolutely abysmal.

Not even the studio fault, i read that to respect the lore of the movies they had to waste a shitload of times to include basically everything.

The movements and combat were aight.

i liked it at first but i eventually just stopped. its definitely fun for the first 10-15 hours. but the gameplay just fails to evolve. every base i enter is the same as it was when i first started. they didnt do a good job with the skills.

apparently the latest DLC fixes all the issues with the game. its much more story focused and has a lot of cool setpieces.

Control 2 wont be a safe sequel according to Remedy. thats good to hear. though i figured since they were going with a melee game after making a shooter in the first.

To be fair, that's how I feel about every Ubi game and I eventually dropped Avatar too. But when it was good it was good. And the superficial elements of simply being Avatar appealed to me. There have been so many copy+paste Ubisoft-style games for the last 10-15 years that I think most people just pick the occasional one they like the theming of. I'll definitely go back for the new DLC when I have the time.

Ubisoft needs to improve asap their writing and narrative presentation. Older Ubisoft games had better quality in animations, not only facial animations but motion capture as well. Their games have become so big that they might dont have time, budget or willpower to make proper motion capture cutscenes. This hurts not only the delivery during the cutscenes, but the immersion and player interest in the story

They make very beautiful worlds with good gameplay generally speaking but they need to make more interesting characters, better writing and better cutscenes because otherwise the player loses interest after a few hours which is why most people get tired after a while playing their games

Kinda the same as AW2, it's wildly different from AW1, Remedy likes to do that.
Honestly I put them in the same bag as Kojima, even though their games might not be for everybody at least they have te balls to change and try different stuff in the AAA space instead of going the safe route and doing the same game for years and years on end even within the same franchises. And they should be protected and treasured by gamers for that alone imo.

And the Northlight engine is a godsend among all the UE5 stuff of today. Can't wait to see how they'll use their current tech to modernize Max Payne.

Hopefully not being safe doesn't turn the game into another anal wake 2, we only need one kojima doing fart smelling stuff.

Not sure if i'm happy about this news...sometimes a safe sequel is for the best.

They need to improve their combat aswell, shadows was abysmal when the first 10 hours novelty wears off.

At least the division games have good combat so i'm sure div3 is gonna be at least good.

Hopefully not being safe doesn't turn the game into another anal wake 2, we only need one kojima doing fart smelling stuff.

Not sure if i'm happy about this news...sometimes a safe sequel is for the best.
Safe sequels are the norm, I'm glad Remedy has the balls to change it up like this, even if it's not successful I applaud them for trying

I applaud a good result, not good intentions, especially when games take 5+ years to be made, more if you consider when control was released.

I'm a control fan so if they turn the game into something i don't like just because, i'm not gonna fucking praise their ass.
