Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Some of the take I've been reading in here regarding Naughty Dog are pure haterade. We're really going to doubt them now? Say what you want about Part II's story, but I'd probably consider it top 5 in graphic detail as well. Intergalatic looks clean af already and that was just a slice trailer and at 60fps. Virtually nothing was shown of the game world at large.

TLOU2 is probably the best looking game of last gen. It's up there with RDR2.

We are talking about this gen. Their only output so far is a last gen remake of TLOu1 and a medicore 5 minute cutscene with a tiny gameplay sequence that looks like shit.

I can't stop thinking about GTA6 papitos. And we have to wait one more year... 😩
BTW, the draw distance ini changes didnt work for Expedition33. I took the engine file and put it in my appdata/sandfall/.../wingdk folder and it did nothing. Is it supposed to be a new file? i didnt see an engine file in there. just a gameusersetting file.

Always remember to set engine.ini as read only. Otherwise the game will ignore the commands. It works 100% when set to read only

Weird, are you playing the gamepass version? maybe there is some weird thing going with that version. If you want to mod games on pc, the gamepass versions are always a pain in the arse

I am on steam and I have these lines in my engine.ini file

[SystemSettings]
r.DFDistanceScale=3
r.ViewDistanceScale=3
foliage.LODDistanceScale=3
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
r.LensFlareQuality=0
r.BloomQuality=0
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=1
r.Shadow.Virtual.MaxPhysicalPages=8192
r.Shadow.Virtual.Clipmap.FirstLevel=4
r.Shadow.Virtual.ResolutionLodBiasDirectional=-2

and the engine.ini is set to read only and this is the path where the file is "%localappdata%\Sandfall\Saved\Config\Windows folder" is in the same folder as GameUserSettings

And this work 100%. I have zero popping and the low res shadows from characters faces is much much better, to the point where I dont see almost any flickering at all, its very improved.

yeah, the gamepass versions suck. I have been unable to literally find save files of my games that i bought on steam after starting my playthroughs on gamepass.

I do have the Engine file in the same folder as my other gameusersettings file. The Engine file did not exist before i added it there. I had to unblock it since it came from a foreign computer, but its definitely set to Read-Only and it doesnt get deleted on game boot.

I even increased the settings from 2 to 3 and it did nothing.

They lost 3 years of full production mode on a wasted GaaS, the studio has been horribly mismanaged

Seems like people with the gamepass version have issues as well. Sorry man, can't help you then. But I will do research and see if I find some solution

These definitely feel like PC to me. Bummer that it's not releasing til a year later on PC I wanna see it maxed out
I played RDR2 on my x1x at native 4k 30 fps and it was mind blowing. Pretty much a religious experience. turns out the x1x version was using medium to low settings. I have since played the PC version maxed out at 4k 80 fps and its really not that much different.

Rockstar puts a lot of effort into making sure console releases look stunning. You wont be missing out. This isnt a cyberpunk situation where consoles only get rt contact shadows while PC gets rtgi, reflections, and sun shadows. RTGI, reflections, and even shadows seem to be in just like Avatar. Plus it looks like it will be 30 fps only on consoles, so 75% of console gamers wont be playing this at 720p low settings like they did Avatar and most other current gen stunners.

Neil was made co-CEO of the studio immediately after TLOu2 shipped. It all went downhill from there. I actually remember reading an article that he had to be called back from Canada mid season because the studio was in disarray. Its not a surprise they have done nothing this gen. Their lone director/studio head was out making tv shows.

The man is clearly not into gaming anymore and thats fine. The show is successful and he's a good director. let him run your movie business and leave the games to TLOU2's game director and Lost Legacy's creative director. Both are extremely talented.

Game will look bonkers even on base ps5 (what's going to happen with XsS?).

I mean: GTA 5 today still looks really really good with a bit of RT added in the mix and a good res. And that's with basically 360-era assets.

RDR2 is a stunner, just like GTA4 back in the day. It's going to be the same with 6.

The fact many people played the few good looking titles of this gen on console-compromised versions has contributed to the feeling that this gen doesn't have much to offer. And around here the overwelming majority hasn't played the best one, which is Hellblade 2. Had it been a PS exclusive...

It's because the textures were the same, it was the only setting that was on par with consoles, some stuff on console was below low pc setting.

It's infuriating that 95% of pc ports have the same textures of the console version, they look better because dlss\native is better than whatever shit upscaling they use on console.

Same here. Back then, I didn't even know what "medium to low settings" were, nor did I give much of a damn lol. RDR2 just looked bonkers on a machine that cost $500 and was smaller than a One S. Of course on PC, the game looks that much better, but native 4K for RDR2 on console was and still is mightily impressive.

As an aside, what are we all thinking in terms of resolution for GTA 6 on console?

lol Watching the trailer again and noticed Jason's chain had full physics applied to it. Then I noticed Lucia's earing and chains also have physics. And then i really started to pay attention and every woman or man wearing earings or chains or cop badges have physics. Just like how all NPCs have the same hair physics.

Also, this might be canned but the big explosion has one car go one way and the other land on top of the truck next to it. Full physics here. basically what we saw in the Matrix demo even in the on-rails chase sequence.

This shot from the website also has some glass shattering. probably a car window.

Oh and there is a raccoon going through a trash can in the first scene, and as he moves away, the trash can lid closes behind him. The fucking physics apply to trash can lids! I think we might just have full destruction in this game.

DF found some FSR artifacts in the first trailer. i think they said 1440p internal so FSR2 quality. Should look like 4k on your tv. FSR2 is mostly fine at internal resolution of 1440p. its when you drop to 1080p or lower where it completely falls apart.

lol I feel bad for Mafia 4 and Death Stranding 2.

Both previews are going to be completely overshadowed by GTA. Lets face it, everything looks last gen compared to GTA6.

It's crazy how some studios used to be on par with them just a generation ago... And now they are in a league of their own, it's almost like everyone is SSJ and they jumped straight to SSJ3 for some DBZ style scaling...

They're FLEXING lmao! It's always been like that with Rockstar's games, their cutscenes are 100% look-alike with gameplay, every asset is 1:1 and that has been evident throughout all their games, they do use a couple of point lights & some fancy camera tricks, but they are the same as in-game gameplay.

This reply highlights it perfectly.

If mafia 4 can't be close that mean UE5 is will officially lost to rage engine considering mindseye (which also developed using UE5 to by big new studio (400+developer's))looks last gen compared to gta vi, tommorow will be true test for ue5 in open world games

I feel much worse for games actually releasing after GTA 6. DS2 on release will probably be the gold standard for graphics in a AAA game this generation. It will get its praise by everyone. Games like Fable or Gears of War E-Day will be massively overshadowed if they release after GTA 6. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a big push by publishers to beat GTA 6 for that reason

It's crazy to me how AC Shadows is one of the few games this generation that features physics based destruction on a wide scale. Being able to kick enemies as Yasuke and send them flying through doors, bamboo, walls etc., and watch as those elements shatter and break apart realistically never gets old.

Genuinely one of the most current gen games out right now, and I doubt Yōtei will come close, aside from character models and cutscenes.

In any case: I agree with Slimy in that GTA 6 will have some crazy destruction and physics, at least I'm hoping so. RDR2 was already doing some insane stuff with physics, and the elements that were destructible were top notch. Even GTA V was incredible in these aspects.

Also, that 60 fps footage of GTA 6 is just… Mind blowing lol. The 50-series cards are whatever; I'll be looking at a 60-series to play this game as unrestricted as possible. Still, the fact that we're getting the level of quality that we saw in that second trailer everywhere on PS5, Series X, and PS5 Pro, but just at 30 fps is a flex and then some.

Mindseye looks B as fuck even compared to other AAA games this gen.

I feel like E-Day will be fine, as it'll be a completely different genre and beast of a game compared to GTA 6. The Coalition are masters at UE, and Playground have proved their mettle time and time again. Both Fable and Gears will be the cream of the crop, graphically.

It's just that GTA 6 will be king for a good while, which we all were already expecting.

Interesting, I know GTA VI doesn't have full Path Tracing like Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, and I know GTA VI won't have anywhere near accurate lighting/shadowing/reflections on consoles but still this highlights Rockstar's ingenuity & mastery of pulling so much power from these consoles while not using PT.

It's team have more than 400 developers lead by former team rockstar producer and have around 4 years of development using ue5 which mean either ue5 have problem in open semi open world genre specially on consoles or the developers are very lacking

So its 1440p internal reconstructed to 4k like the first trailer. But this time they added black bars so the actual resolution is a bit lower, but it still looks like a FSR2 4k quality reconstuction which is basically the standard for UE5, Ubisoft, Bethesda, and EA Frostbite games this gen.

They are using the black bars during cutscenes to push a lot more detail in cutscenes like the Matrix demo and Hellblade 2. Very clever way to get the most out of the PS5 GPU without resorting to FSR balanced or FSR performance upscaling.

Just shocking to me that ND, SSM, GG, Bluepoint, Square Enix, Insomniac, Team Asobi, Polyphony Digital, all went native 4k with Bluepoint and GG literally saying friends dont let friends play in 30 fps. Good job, you have literally become obsolete.

Rockstar are smart with their resource allocation. Having a high internal resolution before upscaling it to a 4K output makes the image just as sharp as native 4K when displayed on a big TV. It's why something like Stalker 2 looks incredibly sharp on Series X, as the internal res is 1440p (Quality mode) before being boosted to 4K, I believe.

There's so much tech and things happening in GTA 6, that a native 4K output wouldn't have made a lick of sense. I doubt even the PS5 Pro will see native 4K, but they could very well surprise us like they did with the One X.

DF just said that they are using RTGI so its not a software based solution like we saw in UE5's software lumen games or KCD2 or starfield. It's basically what CD Project used at launch and what Matrix used. It's no path tracing but its the real deal.

Im more excited for Mafia than GTA6, not to mention DS2
I think Mafia looks phenomenal and so does DS2, which is why i feel bad for them because most people will simply compare it to a $2 billion game revealed just a couple of days ago.

it will be interesting to see if Mafia is using hardware lumen and if there is any per pixel RTGI implementation in DS2. Both engines need a big win.

ofc it was going to be a RT GI
it was a no brainer
i had no worries on that front. i was 99% sure it was going to have rt gi and was %98 sure that it was indeed rt gi in the trailer. glad to be proven right
diffuse is insane and impacts almost all scenes

Lol some people's in other threads still debating gta vi graphics because of trailer have many cutscenes, but the fact that I never recall any game made by rockstar had cutscenes that looks better than gameplay like the case with ND ps4 games, in fact rockstar didn't add any special graphics effects or lighting for in all games that made by them until now their gameplay and cutscenes are identical

GTA 6 is the best looking game currently I agree, it is also the most visually cohesive game. The only fault I see with the graphics is texture resolution, that mafia game has higher res textures probably due to virtual texturing. If rockstar games could find a way to implement 8k virtual textures for gta6 then it would look like an offline render.
