Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

p5SSVHpJSr6i93zK.jpg

We have truly reached next-gen feet now. Praised Blood Message and Chinese devs.

A Chinese analysis of the trailer. You can translate the transcript in chatgpt.

Talked about the era of the game and possible historical characters they're based on. And to keep expectations in check until we see real gameplay, lol.

Obviously, in the case of games that aim for that, for photorealism, it's logical that they end up being similar, except for the game's own setting (Sci-Fi, Western, Cyberpunk, etc.).
Yeah, this was sort of a given, I mean, I expected this, when talking about games that want realistic graphics. Also said it already, saw some games made in different engines that look similar.

Games made in UE3 or UE4 were also similar, the only difference is that the engine wasn't this realistic.

All these chinese UE5 games looks incredible, the only problem is that they all looks the same. You can take one or the other and all seems basically the same game in different places. Probably because all UE5 games looks pretty similar too.

Couldnt disagree more. Lately there were released quite a few UE5 games that look just so much different....

I dunno ya'll, DOOM: The Dark Ages with the path tracing patch holds it's own. I don't think it's setting the new bar or anything but it looks damn good in 2025.

It's crazy to me you can't see how extremely similar these games look.
Now on UE5 I will be the first to say that it is totally possible to make different looking games, just look at Guilty Gear strive

But the Engine best practices and supported features absolutely make it so that if you aren't aiming to look different at every step of the game your game will have a "UE Look" to them that is easily recognizable.

And many devs are fine with that.

Is Guilty Gear Strive UE4 or 5 (I think UE4)? Looks awesome, i love the artstyle of GGS.

Dawnwalker looks like garbage lol. witcher 4? it doesnt even look as good as witcher 3.

ue5 is not the savior. the chinese, russian and korean developer are.

it looks even better in motion. especially indoors when all those little light bulbs and LED strips emit light.

that said, i think they couldve just have them be light sources without enabling PT. they already have RT.

Yep, it looks underwhelming, I expected it to look a bit better.

UE5 just using it without making an effort isn't gonna do too much and it's one of the reasons that fuels this trend that they all look the same.

Honestly DKB doesnt look any better than SMO. I betcha it could run @ 60fps just as well as Odyssey did but they need to justify the new console so they made it S2 exclusive.

Hate to sat it but i agree ...even MKW looks better graphically. Everyone was expecting Nintend9 to do great things with the big boost in hardware but so far they're 0 for 2 imo. Actually 0 for 3 because Splatoon Raiders also looks barel6 any better than Splat 3.

Nintendo is pulling a Sony this gen it seems. I'm so sick of the lack of ambition these days from these two companies. The fact that they charge $70 now and don't even try to make a next gen looking game is what pisses me off.

$80....

And while sony might not be making next gen stuff, they are still making games that look better than last gen games. Aside from GT7 and GOW ragnorak, every game they have been has been a noticeable improvement over its predecessor. maybe not a generational one, but definitely noticeable. Ratchet, Demon Souls, HFW, Spiderman 2, DS2 and GoT2 might feel like PS4.5 games, but at least they dont look like wii u games.

Yep. We rage against lack of ambition in this thread (which i do agree with ofc) but nintendo are the worst in that they tie the same premium to games with wii u visuals

can't wait to see how fake this trailer is. You guys are falling for this too easily lol
Dude it doesn't even look better than hb2 cmon...
Slightly less graphic and a bit more scope but still super scripted, this is no open world, that graphic is achievable, the animations are the tricky part.

You may want to look details of hands and feet in hfw and hb2, we are not far at all.

I don't take hb2 into account. It's a cutscene with limited number of characters

The devs are saying its all realtime. 70% cutscenes. 30% gameplay.

1. Is the Blood Message trailer a real game or CG?

The answer is that all of them are real game engine footage, with zero CG content.

However, although they are all real game screens, the game screens directly operated by players account for about 30%, and the operation interface is removed from this part to enhance the immersiveness of the screen itself.

Overall, the trailer is roughly composed of two parts: "70% cutscenes" and "30% actual combat scenes".

The actual game screen refers to the actual screen seen in the game based on the player's operation. In this trailer, for example, several combat, sneaking, climbing, carjacking, riding and other action scenes are all actual combat demonstrations.

Real-time cutscenes refer to the images that are rendered in real time in the game based on the story that the player is experiencing, in order to explain the plot or the emotional changes of the characters. In this trailer, for example, the oath of allegiance in front of the city gate; the male protagonist pushing the door to enter the house to check the letter left by his son; and the end of the film holding a lamp to illuminate the murals, etc. are all cutscenes.

It is essentially real game footage, because it is integrated into the player's gaming experience and is generated in real time within the game based on the player's character model and the surrounding environment.

Of course, in order to present the logic of the plot, the trailer has been edited and arranged, and there is no strict correspondence between the picture and the narration. The voice in some shots comes directly from the character's voice, the voice in some shots is the character's inner monologue, and some are narrations that are not directly related to the picture. Some players pointed out that "some characters in the trailer don't open their mouths when speaking" is exactly for this reason, because in the official game, the characters don't speak at this time, and the voice is added uniformly during editing.

Gt7 looks noticeably better than gt7 but I agree all these games are ps4.5. Yeah Nintendo making a statement early on ...don't expect to be impressed by graphics this gen.

Why do you guys love Reshade so much? It makes shading look too dark to me.

I've never been a fan of Reshade. Games have a certain color grading or sharpness or brightness or contrast to them because that was the artistic intent of the team that developed the game. Outside of a game being bugged or broken, I don't want to change that.

You see, you guys were way too quick to hop on this game's lap. At this point, there is precisely zero reason to presume that this will be much more interactive than Hellblade 2.

Professional Baseball Spirits on the Pro looks even better thanks to the higher resolution. Just found some vids of me winning the Japan series. Fantastic animations.

There are plenty of reasons to assume that. Including reasons the devs gave elsewhere in this blogpost.

The game will likely be downgraded especially on current gen consoles by the time this comes out in 4 years, but its clear from the trailer that the game won't be as linear as hb2.

Something we ignore here is that to preserve "artistic intent" we all need to make sure our displays are calibrated similar to how the artists had it. So, what you choose as your display color settings, gamma, tint, brightness, contrast etc already skews the "artistic intent", even before any in game settings or external shaders.

Thus, I feel that changing the look of the game so it's looks pleasing/correct to you is absolutely the way to go.

Okay, I should've been more exhaustive in the post. You are correct: The game will be downgraded like Wukong and/or will not be as interactive like Hellblade.

Either way, I do not expect an all around 8-10 quality game from this.

So ...with Death Stranding 2 out tomorrow night do we know what the Ps5 Pro enhancements are yet? I've had a bad gut feeling its going to be something very minor even though this was THE game many people said they're buying the Pro for ...

Sony/Kojima haven't hinted it'll receive any special attention on Pro tho hence my concern
