Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Id say it's about time to stop giving Sony money, but half of you bought ds2
Dont worry. DS2 or as i like to call it DS1.1 flopped. Most people saw through it as straight to dvd sequel and didnt buy it. Despite the critics overrating it like they did Spiderman 2 and GOW which still sold millions.

But i think Spiderman 2 was when people realized that these games are too samey and are going to pull back on the purchases. Astrobot barely sold a million and Death stranding 2 is underperforming. This game will follow the same trend.

Personally, I buy these games because this is literally the only medium i actually enjoy anymore. So even if its comfort food, id rather have this than trashy netflix and disney plus shows and Marvel trash thats infested the movie industry in the last decade or so. i watch maybe one movie every 3 months and maybe one tv show a year. i have to game or i will lose my sanity.

Pretty funny that Double Fine of all studios is a whole generation ahead of Sony 1st party graphically. And this is likely not even their main game since Shafer isn't directing. And they're small.

nah this aint it. Hellblade 2, Fable, Forza and maybe even starfield, but this aint it.

DS2 has plenty of current gen graphics this thread is way too critical of that game. Universally celebrated as one of the best looking PS5 games.

But this here from Sucker Punch, simply indefensible on so many levels. I can't think of a cross gen game from any AAA studio let alone Sony first party, that looks worse from a gen on gen standpoint.

Watched the GoY deep dive today, and it's about as I expected it to be, graphically, and the general consensus about the game's visuals overall in here. AC: Shadows annihilates this game in everything but character models/faces. It's almost shocking how much better the Ubi title looks, and how it matches/surpasses the old E3 demo of GoT back in the day. Stuff like the wind tech, the fact that every piece of foliage reacts to movement, the destructible environments, and RTGI makes Shadows a few steps above Yōtei imo.

It looks fun, just like GoT, but it's visually a half-step from that game.

Man, I can't wait for the next RnC, especially as it'll no doubt be getting scaled up on PS6. Feels like the only truly next current-gen game Sony did this gen.
Yeah it felt like I was playing CGI movie sometimes. The geometric density, the materials, the lighting, the animation, Its a looker. Only downside was some of geometry in certain levels.

Maybe SP just needs to let go of their engine, it might be legit crusty as hell at this point. Probably time to give them a Decima membership

Well would you look at that? Sony becomes a multiplat publisher, and their library is increasingly becoming 2010s Ubisoft levels of rehash. There are some shots and animations that genuinely look like they were pulled from Tsushima on base PS4. And that's just the graphics. The gameplay... ugh.

It looks similar in style but it's much higher fidelity. Like death stranding 1 to 2.
I might post some pics tomorrow.

If you guys can see the difference between got1 and 2, it's not me being blind.
Lol, I really don't know how you defend a trash like this for ds2 I can stand you defend it but for this shit, what the hell man!?

We can blame leadership all we want but these same artists used to create brand new assets when they went from Infamous 1 to Infamous 2 in two years then brand new next gen assets for infamous in 3 years. And finally brand new assets for Ghost of Tushima in 4 years after their first game got cancelled in 2016.

So the question remains, just wtf were these artists doing for the last five years?

Again, we are not asking for R&D on mesh shaders and RTGI, we are simply asking for stuff that used to happen every 2 years and still happens in most new games. With the exceptions being Spiderman 2, Death Stranding 2 and now Ghosts 2. And of course Zelda botw, but at least their designers went to town on physics. WTF have these devs been doing for five years?
They just lazy developers as hell, the worst of sony trush this gen, not a single improvement.

I really don't understand what happened to this industry. Games takes longer to make, cost more and yet they don't improve the graphics and don't evolve the gameplay. It truly defies all logic.

Lazy developers alongside sony bullshit leadership by hirman hulst who spent 400 million or more on cancelled trush like concord, so why them not rest on their ass and do nothing, lol even some AA Games this gen looks far better than this shit

We don't know what's good according to fanboys and reviewers. I mean there are still people that think the intro for DS2 is in game graphics and the reviews I've seen left me perplexed with takes like "I didn't like DS1, but now because of DS2 I like DS1" Okay, sure sure.

This is what I think of Ghost of Yotei after watching the State of Play.

First, I think the game will be a masterpiece, now lets talk everything else. Assassins Creed Shadows is doing much more technically, it actually uses "next gen" technology, has more geometric density in its assets and it shows. The problem is that you can see geometric angles and rough edges in too many of Yotei's assets and this shouldn't be the case on a PS5 exclusive game at all unless its an artistic choice. The draw distance in Yotei is simply awesome, the art direction is awesome, the cutscenes look to be high quality and possibly better than Assassin's creed shadows. I loved the art direction of Yotei, the large fields of grass, foliage that reacted to the character etc. The big issue with Yotei's graphics is lack of current gen technology, I don't see any RTGI or micropolygon use etc and it really brings down what could have been a graphics masterpiece. There are parts where you see low quality textures or horrible last gen lighting and it makes it look like a PS4.5 game. Then I see all of the character models and I think they need to be more geometrically dense. It's like the visuals of Yotei were heading towards "next gen" and they left it incomplete. The characters models are missing polygons and RTGI is turned off. Yotei is VERY pleasing to look at and the art direction is elite, but missing RTGI, having low res textures and low geometric density (unless its an artistic choice) on a PS5 exclusive from first party devs in 2025 is inexcusable…

You should ask why are there so many Normies who eat these games up anyway?
Lower market standards breed lower consumer standards, I guess.

It's a shame it looks no better than the last game. The sad part is that I was playing BOTW on the Switch 2 while watching it and while this obviously looks better, it's not by as much as you think especially the textures. Whether it's with the open world of Mario Kart or the destructible environment in Bananza I can at least point to the difference from last gen. I don't see where the difference is here.

more pics of unknown UE5 racing games.

One area of fidelity where Yotei might end up looking really good is the quality of the vegetation cardboard assets in the far distance.
AC:S often looked atrocious in this regard.

Y'all bitch and moan and then will buy Ghost 2 at full price and let Sony continue their bullsh*t. Don't complain if you're part of the problem.
You're absolutely right. What I do now is no more day one purchases, and I buy the game, used, for almost half the price 1-2 months after the release.

To way too much open world. Got was a great mix. 35 hours long game. I got tired of the open world only by the end.
This seems way too bloated.
It doesn't look more bloated than many open worlds with much better graphic, so open world is clearly not the reason.

Gosth 2 is very similar to 1 but still they pumped up the draw distance and the foliage like mad, didn't they ?
I know superlatives and exageration is part of this thread, but i did not see anyone talk about the distant details...
I mean they almost look better than the close up details, which admittedly are just like the first one.

Draw distance was very bad in the first game and it's been greatly improved indeed, but it still looks average at best.

GOT was only saved visually on PS4 because of its art style, it was technically outdated back then. How can they spend years making a PS5 only game and not move the tech on at all, I'm genuinely so disappointed in sony this generation, doubt I'll buy a PS6 if this is how they make use of the hardware. 0 excuse, just awful management and complete lack of ambition, you can't even make the argument they focused on gameplay or physics or something, it looks just like dlc for the first game. Pathetic honestly, 3rd party and Microsoft devs are at least trying this generation (and maybe Insomniac, at least they made R&C).

I find the distant stuff even better looking than Ass creed shadows, but im afraid they will downgrade it or put a shitload of fog (like they do in Shadows most of the time)...

It makes no sense to play games on release anyways nowadays because of all the patches and updates they receive. You're essentially paying more for incomplete version of the game.

Detail at mid distance doesn't look too hot. Look at 3.07, the blades of grass look a bit rough. It looks very good at 6.10 though.

Just rewatching the 4K stream, and wow those stutters in the memory portals are very noticeable, very damaging to immersion. How comes Insomniac can nail it, but SP can't. I thought they'd share the tech if they're clearly having issues with it. Seamless streaming is a tentpole feature of the PS5, how can a 1st party studio fail at implementing something like that. Man I'm genuinely so bummed, completely lost faith in Playstation, they used to actually care.
Edit: Lots of drops in the trailer, especially with heavier alpha effects, I hope they smooth those out.

Yeah sony is really behind when it comes to hair physics in their games...

I still think fifa2022 cavani is the most realistic looking hairs ever, it just fools you into believing that all the hairs have physics even if it is just a visual trick, you can't find better hairs than this gif, you can probably fool a lot of non-gamers that those are real hairs, i know i could with this specific gif even if the other players look worse.

VIW7Ml.gif

shadows, veilguard and tressfx are not as good as that.

This gif is a reminder that really cloth physics can make up for bad animation.

It's not a bad thing.

that looked really bad , hope they fix it for release

Ghost of Yotei looks fun, but visually it looks very similar to Ghost of Tsushima. Definitely a huge disappointment, visually speaking.

It's so odd because it seems that the standard around PlayStation fans has changed and now "looks like a PS4 game but at a higher res and 60fps" is all it takes for so many to claim it's the most beautiful game ever.
There mostly Grifters not fans.

This would look mid for PS4. The lighting is awful here, materials flat, geometric details very poor. Look at the thatched roofing, the baskets and assets under the roof on the left. There is 0 lighting or shadowing detail by the wall in the background. The items on the mat have 0 lighting or shadowing detail either. None of the soldiers are casting any sort of shadowing detail so don't look properly grounded. This is exactly what happens when you don't upgrade to have a proper GI or geometry solution.

I bet Sony's budget for games isn't as high as it was last gen because they're recycling so much of the old tech.
I dont think its laziness. I think its this. No matter what bullshit they feed us about 300mil here or there I think there budgets have been cut accross the board. I think these so called increased budgets are just clever accounting and wordplay used to mislead people and investers. Probably most of the budget is now blown on paying off influencers and advertising in general. There Full of Shit .

Yeah. Remember when last gen we used to get reports that such and such game cost 100M or 200M, well, we haven't been having these reports this gen when it comes to Sony. Development costs are definitely significantly down, they have to be going by how much they are recycling.

Yep Outlaws literally just "now" added shooting on speeder functionality. Same with Avatar just now adding a waypoint compass.

Reminder, because not everyone will see the other thread.
THIS is how first got looks. my screenshots from this year playing dc on pro.
Looks great but Yoteil is clearly WAY better looking technically. Only similar in style

and this is ps5 directors cut... now compare yotei to ps4 version...
