Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

well
STOP
USING
AI

The Touryst's engine doesn't use Voxels in any way.
the devs used a Voxel art tool (MagicaVoxel) to design the world, but converted these to normal polygon meshes when putting them into the game. the tool was mainly used because it made it easy for them to keep all the fake voxels the same size so that the artsytle looked consistent.

it also doesn't have "smoothing" for non-blocky environments, as it doesn't have "non-blocky" environments. its entire artstyle revolves around being blocky, there's not a single asset in this game that wasn't designed with said voxel art tool. the smoothest thing you'll find in the game are maybe 45° angles lol.

the game also has no destruction whatsoever, aside from the typical context based stuff you find in all games, like breaking a pot on Zelda... so there are no voxels in need of being smoothed/surfaced

once again, Grok being retarded... don't trust AI, EVER.
every time I see its answers for stuff I know a bit about, I see just how much nonsense it makes up out of nowhere. I bet there's not even remotely a source of that info on The Touryst, it completely hallucinated it.

and once you know it made 1 part of this up entirely, you have to throw out every other info it gave you essentially. it entirely hallucinated all the infos about The Touryst, so it probably did the same for many of the games (maybe all) on this list
Not in on this convo but I second the AI thing. It's actually quite concerning that people think it is accurate - maybe it's too late but more need to be educated on this: AI MAKES UP SHIT CONSTANTLY. Do not use AI as a substitute for actual research or fact checking. It will end badly

This looks real on my oled iphone.

But didnt you say that DS2 graphics are a disgrace and they look terrible? Make it make sense papito Slimy

Does your mind only work in boolean? Everything is either great or terrible?

You can have a game where one scene looks photorealistic for five seconds, but when everything else looks like garbage, I'd say the game as a whole looks like garbage on average.

I'm not saying that DS2 is that game, but you get the point. Hopefully.

Have you actually been following this thread since the game launched?
People here have been constantly mocking the game's graphics for weeks. So to suddenly act like the criticism was never that bad just doesn't hold up, it's about being consistent and coherent

And for the record, my brain works just fine. Maybe what you're experiencing is projection, a psychological defense where someone accuses others of what they're actually going through themselves

My filthy ass would look incredible in gif format in a small screen, cmon :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

That is the mountian where you start the game right? Kojima wasted all the rock rendering on that single location, 20 hours in and nothing even come close to the first mountain.

2017 horizon looking like a pixar movie, guess why :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Okay do it, upload it and let's see if that is true
I posted 3 gifs of horizon instead.

Posting my ass would turn the whole section gay.

If after so much time you people don't understand that everything look magic in gif form on a small screen, i don't know what to tell you.

Pretty sure you can make pass the gollum game as incredible looking in gif format...

Assets are crazy but there's a ton of pop in and weird shadow behavior. I guess that's due to the limitations of our current technology?

The juxtaposition of hyper realistic everything and ps3 forest background is kind of jarring...
It's like they photoshopped a real life photography onto a video game background

It seems to me more like bugs in the demo sent to the journalist. We'll see when the demo is officially released to everyone.

They do look terrible at times, but not this time. What do you want me to do? Just trash every gif posted of that game lol I am not a fanboy irrationally hating every single aspect of a game, and i give credit where credit is due. ive posted several gifs myself and continue to take vids 110 hours into the game.

The game's issues are with draw distance which has been an ongoing issue going back to HFW which hid the poor draw distance behind fog. Lots of fog. DS2 doesnt use fog and that exposes the engine's LOD management issues resulting in some very last gen vistas. And seeing as how this game went from a walking simulator to a truck driving simulator, you are always viewing the game with that wide FOV.

The near field assets are mostly fine in some areas. Especially the opening which has mountains and rocks that way better than they do in the rest of the game, and where that gif is taken from.

Do we call that horizon syndrome? Didn't fw had a beach with rocks better than the rest of the game?

Decima must have like a finite budget for rocks even if they are in different places entirely, such a bizzare ass thing :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

lol yes. honestly dont know how to explain it.

One thing ive noticed is that they have a really good dynamic lighting system that you only rarely see at nights, only in some enemy bases that have ceiling lights, and inside some terminals. Some areas when cleared of timefall have fairly decent day time lighting. But those volcanic black sand and rocks are last gen lifted straight from the first game and make up almost half of the game.

btw those are sunhilegend gifs and he admitted to photoshopping them to look CG. there is a post of him here showing how he would add some post processing effects and slow down the gifs to make them more cinematic. making gifs is an art form in itself and the guy used it to get himself a job with GG.

he actually cut and shot all the gameplay bits in one of the trailers for HFW.

I know they are sunhi gif, nobody make game look like him in gif format.

Holy shit. Third person mode will be added in Avatar in a December update. Looks amazing.

Making this game first person was so fucking stupid. Good to see they are reworking animations to ensure it doesnt look janky.

Exactly. Looooots of pop in/ups, eugh! I loathe pop in/ups. Instant braker for me, couldn't continue to watch it.

For me the next graphical jump would be the total elimination or huge reduction of pop in/ups in games. I don't really care state of the art graphics or higher FPS.

How does third person help the graphic?

The game is gonna remain mediocre no matter the camera point.

Third person helps ground the player into the world. You no longer see the world in a fish eye view and you dont have to literally turn your head to see the world around you. you can see it in the shot of the mountains behind the character.

The game is shit, but thats besides the point.

I really hope they add support for the latest version of PSSR, maybe even the FSR 4 version.

The PS5 Pro version isn't as good as I'd like

Isn't that the point of nanite tho? To make pop in not noticeable?

Ps5 pro version stinks ...i also wonder if both modes on Pro look a little worse now than Quality mode used to on ps5

Also, the waterfalls in this game now look atrocious (and there are a lot of them) since the Pro patch. One of the worst eye sores in any game ive played this gen!

Just switch back to FSR3. You will get a higher average dynamic resolution. Quality mode went from 1296p-1800p before being reconstructed to 4k. Which is better than even DLSS quality which maxes out at 67%. Yes, it's FSR and not DLSS but at that high of an internal resolution, you should be fine. Even the 60 fps mode goes up to 1152p. No need to use the broken PSSR mess created by Cerny for no fucking reason when AMD had its own superior solution available.

Shame that they're being stupid and making the new Ghost Recon in 1st person

the cloud tech they borrowed from horizon burning shores works really well here because a lot of those mountain bases sit on top of the clouds. allowing for some stunning moments like these.

once inside the clouds, it basically turns into a white sandstorm which isnt particularly impressive when it comes to volumetric effects like we saw in sh2.

Imagine a new SSX with these mountain in the clouds graphics. man the industry is so stale.

Did i just read on reee that the digital fuckers promoted switch 2 in one of their videos without disclosing that it was a paid ad??!🥲

For reeee to say that it must be true because they fucking love the digital fuckers over there :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

You need to come to your senses and admit that it is one of the most beautiful games this gen
