Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

The world of Red Dead is more comparable to Kingdom Come than to GTA.

Animal ecosystem equals game system, and interactivity and reactivity are good. More of that, please.

A guy cutting individual pieces of meat is just a waste of time.

That's where I stand on this subject. Around 15 hours into KCD2, and I hate to say it, but its world feels more believable than Red Dead Redemption 2.
No dude i'm talking about stuff that is not related to gameplay like the possum playing dead or other animals doing their thing like in real life, those are just extra details that other game just don't include.

Far cry primal also had a pristine animal ecosystem, too bad people shit on that game.

Kc2 looks more believable for some things but animations\collisions\physics and care for details are in another universe compared to a rockstar game, characters are so fucking stiff in kc2, animations are important when you try to seel a living place pupulated by npcs.

Nobody is gonna beat rockstar npcs reactions and animations without euphoria engine, not witcher 4 or cyberpunk 2 or kc3.

Haha, true. It seems that even Rockstar cannot beat Rockstar when it comes to animations, as they peaked with their Euphoria engine in GTA IV. Animations are just one part. What I mean by the world feeling more believable is the sense of place and purpose. Businesses exist not only to support the player but also the local economy and communities. People from nearby villages know each other and are interconnected. People remember what you have done. People give you actual directions that you can follow to reach your objective. And so on. Red Dead is still king when it comes to what you call micro details, no question about it.

Like i said, kc2 simulation for some things is vastly superior to rockstar but that level of simulation would be wasted on a gta game because they are not rpgs.

Kc1 was already superior without even mentioning kc2.

Gta4 was too much animation driven, to a fault, really impressive but people thought the gameplay and movements were utter shite so they had to tone down for gta5 and rdr2 to make the gameplay more fluid, some people liked it, some people didn't.

I think max payne 3 was the perfect balance but they aren't been able to replicate that in an open world apparently.

Npcs animations are imo better in rdr2 than gta4, they way they stumble after being shot is more cinematic in rdr2 and bullets have more punch.
With some mods you can unlock the full euphoria in both gta5 and rdr2.

None of the system I've mentioned are RPG specific. Every game set in an open world would largely benefit from including them

Gta6 would not largely benefit from that, it is more of macro cosmo than a micro cosmo.

Maybe rdr2 but then again, you don't have extensive chitchat with npcs in these games, they are more interchangeable and less meaningful for lack of better words.

Atlas fallen is an open world game, same for forspoken, would they benefit from stuff like this? No.

Different open worlds have different focuses, rockstar is more for a broad simulation of a city.

GTA VI wouldn't benefit it? Come on now. We can argue that including these system in game set in modern day city with the scale of GTA would be next to impossible. But next Red Dead should definitely go that direction. Living, breathing world in every aspect.

I think it's a matter of priority, they can probably do that but in rdr2 npcs interactions are nowhere near as deep as kc, you barely even steal stuff other than robbing a store at gunpoint so a full blown stealing system like kc2 would be kinda wasted.

I would not be against it but i would not miss its presence in rdr3 if they have to cut other stuff to put it in.

135 people are already working on it. It is likely coming on PS5 as well.
Ps5 gonna have extremly long xgen period.
Assuming leakers are true and we gonna get both xbox pc and ps6 by holidays 2027, i think xbox series will likely get abandoned by most AAA devs relatively fast(reasons being fairy obvious- series s keeping it down with its low specs, low instal base and on top owners of that console trained by microsoft themself and its gamepass to not buy games at launch), beyond 2030 most it will count on are legacy ports of fifa/madden/nba2k.

Ps5 on the other hand coz of its much bigger instal base(i would say bare minimum 120m units, likely even more total, depending how gta6 shaenanigangs happen) will be getting ports even in 2032(nasty downgraded 30fps with dips/below 1080p native blurry mess and cut down settings, especially rt obviously, mashine will be crazy weaksauce by then).

TLDR: Cp2078 or w/e name its gonna get will launch on ps5 but compared to midrange gaming pc at that time(2032?) or even weaker than that ps6(leaks saying at max its 5080 ) it will look and run like cp2077 on xbone or bestcase scenario on ps4.

We've been through this before, I don't think it's 5 yrs on W4 alone. Phantom Liberty was released in 23, so that means almost 3 years the majority of them were working on fixing CP and the expansion.

I don't think these ~400 people are working on W4 since the initial release of CP in 2020.

These are their own words - well, if they're telling the truth or not, that's another story.

Its 400 people since last year. 250 for ND. If these massive studios can't get a trailer let alone a gameplay demo ready a year after revealing their game, something is broken. Or someone is lazy.

Switch 2 version.

Yep. No ray tracing as expected. Still looks amazing, especially the snow area in the first clip.

I am not upset though. I like that the devs arent treating it like a serious console. It's getting treated like a bastard child just like the series s with no ray tracing. At least we can safely say that the switch 2 wont be holding back anything other than switch 2 owners experience.

We are getting James Bond, RE9, and Crimson Desert early next year. All of them feature heavy ray tracing. I know both James Bond and RE9 have switch 2 versions, and yet they both look next gen. RE9's less so than James Bond but it has path tracing on PC. I just dont see switch 2 holding back this gen. Especially since the PS5 was mightily struggling to hold 30 fps in the James Bond demo.

Boy if only i could be as optimistic as slimy...

Shadows started development when sw2 wasn't even a thing, you have to fear the games that are starting development NOW that sw2 specs are well known.

When sw1 released devs had no idea if it was about to be successful after wii u, they are not gonna make the same mistake with sw2, they leave money on the table by not having a sw2 version.

Personally, i'm gonna be very suspicious of a downgrade for every graphic intensive game with a sw2 release, especially open world or game that stress the cpu, and i'm not talking about rtx off or on, pc gamers with shitty pc have played for 2 gens without rtx, i'm talking of core, fundamental downgrades.

Hypothetical wukong 2 is not gonna have massive destruction and 100 enemies on screen if sw2 can't handle that, and you can't fucking make a version with way less stuff on screen that turn the game into something else and ask for the same price, you just can't.

Interestingly they claimed the memory pool still wasn't enough for raytracing, there are 9 gb available for games to use currently. The console's OS is bloated, I bet if it had 10 gb available since the start it would have been a different story.

and they took their sweet time . The reveal trailer for Cyberpunk came out in 2013 if my memory serves me correctly, TW3 was still in development back then
Are some people here already forgetting the story behind that trailer and the reveal gameplay? Remember the 2018 'gameplay demo' was revealed to be target footage, as in what they wanted the game to look like but were nowhere close to that stage in development.

This is all and well but why didn't they activated multithreading when they named their engine "5" way back when? Why is it that they bring huge differences with each decimal iteration? Why isn't it easy for developers to migrate their games to new version of UE.

I always see this title about UE5: "HUUUUUGE UPGRADES/IMPROVEMENTS IN THIS NEW VERSION!!!!!". How is this reliable?

I don't have anything against UE but I really don't like Epic's behaviour. Yes, most of the developers also at fault here but Epic is not innocent. Also I'm totally against monopoly of game engines.

Parallelism is one of the biggest challenges in software development. There are many problems:

- Race Condition - Two or more threads access the same variable/memory at the same time, and at least one of them writes. The final result depends on who "gets there first," that is, on the unpredictable order of execution.
- Deadlock - Two or more threads wait indefinitely for each other to release resources.
- Livelock - It looks like a deadlock, but it's not stopped. The threads are active and consuming CPU, but they keep "dancing" without progressing.
- Starvation - A thread never gets the resource it needs because other "smarter" threads grab it first.
- Heisenberg bugs (non-deterministic bugs) - Heisenberg's uncertainty principle: when you try to observe the bug (log it, use a debugger, etc.), its behavior changes or it disappears.

There's even a mathematical formula, Amdahl's Law, that demonstrates the theoretical limit of parallelism. In a very brief summary, the law states that the more cores you have, the performance increase is at most 5~30%.

Some time ago, the director of Ubisoft Massive (Avatar, Star Wars) commented on how difficult it is to parallelize a game:

Shits boring right now, we need The Game Awards.

Hypothetical wukong 2 is not gonna have massive destruction and 100 enemies on screen if sw2 can't handle that, and you can't fucking make a version with way less stuff on screen that turn the game into something else and ask for the same price, you just can't.
Wait , was Wukong 2 confirmed for Switch 2?? :messenger_poop: :messenger_poop:

Path traced GTA IV + some various texture mods looks crazy. A few of my shots:

It takes on a legit pre-rendered feel at times. This is miles better than I would've imagined an official remaster would even look.

Last year Neil said
Oh sure sure, I'm absolutely certain that cancelling a big project in a new gaming mechanics area was of no consequences to them and the bulk of the team has most definitely worked on some unannounced game instead of working on a project which was supposed to ship around the time it got canned.
What Neil says now is called damage control. If things would be like this we would be getting Intergalactic this year but alas we're not which means that Neil is lying and the game has in fact been in full production for less time than they'd want to make you think to cover up their own mismanagement.

The phone is bugged though. You cant use it with this mod which disrupts very much the gameplay

At the same time, it removes a lot the charm of the OG graphics, sunsets are not as beautiful with the red orange sky. The mood is ruined in some parts of the day. The modders have a lot of work to do yet

Yeah I think I'll be waiting before doing a full play through, but a really really impressive start.

Also:

Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski believes the next two sequels "should be delivered in a shorter period of time" thanks to Unreal Engine 5.

SlimySnake SlimySnake sounds good but time will tell ,and we'll see I guess

And

lol i was just about to post these. Honestly, the UE5.7 performance improvements just pissed me off. Yes, its good for console gamers but the generation is pretty much over and by the time these 5.7 games come out, it will be 2027-28 and people will be on the PS6 anyway. I could brute force these games on PC, but console owners clearly got the shaft this gen. at least when it comes to Performance modes.

Witcher 4-6 plan is solid. i like it. Makes no sense to take 6 years to make one game. Sequels should take 3 years max.

So, looks like we might actually see Corys game at TGA...

I think that statue is GOW

What are we expecting? Has no reason to not look significantly better than Wolverine at least.

If it's Cory game and it will ends up on current gen consoles, it will be best looking game on ps5 including gta vi. (mark my words)

Im good. gow 2018 was fantastic, ragnarok was okay. I dont need more GoW. Id rather have Corys new IP, thats hopefully a scifi one too
Pretty sure his sci fi one was cancelled. I think he's doing GOW Egypt, something fresh, basically another reboot.
The Ragnarok DLC basically confirmed GOW Egypt at the end of it.

I expect proper current gen looking with art direction leaning more towards realism than Insomniac Wolverine. Let's not forget what they accomplished with God of War 2018 on base PS4.
