Gravity Rush 2 |OT| Mewton's Law of Gravity

Beat the game, so I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the game as someone who never played the first one and bought this due to the hype here.

Stuff I liked
- Beautiful, beautiful art style. Everything looks gorgeous.
- The characters are a lot of fun. Kat is adorable and Raven is awesome.Cecie is also great, but she doesn't get much screen time sadly.
- Traversal is probably the most fun in any game ever. Flying around the city just never gets old.

Stuff I didn't like
- Lunar and Jupiter modes really didn't add much to the game. If you're going from one city to the next, it's easier to just fly rather than jump around and slowly float down. Jupiter mode seemed next to useless outside of combat. They could've made some passages or obstacles accessible only with Jupiter mode.
- Camera. For the most part it was okay, but at times during combat it would go completely bonkers, getting stuck in the wall or to the floor, making combat very frustrating.
- Side quests. I'm a bit mixed on this as there were a few side quests that I really liked (like the Phoenix Wright/investigation one), but overall the quest designs were very repetitive (and often dull) with little to no payoff.
- Stealth. I think this has been mentioned hundreds of times already, but if you're going to use stealth so much in the game, at least make it work decently.
- The game never seems to stop holding your hand. The game constantly tells you what to do with pop up screens and markers. Even near the end of the game (chapter 21 or so), Kat says that she needs to scale up this wall, and the game comes swooshing in with a pop up screen telling you to use Lunar mode.

For me, this was a game best played in short bursts, as playing for a longer period of time just compounded its issues and left me annoyed and frustrated. I feel like this series has a lot of potential though, and would love to see a third game if they could fix some of these issues.

The in-game DLC announcement says the Raven DLC will also expand Delvool to 50 layers. I still haven't finished all the currently existing layers!

I'm not sure you really realize how much the stances change things, because even just flying around I'm constantly switching between the three. I don't actually spend a lot of time in Normal style anymore. Jupiter is best for fast linear traversal, mostly because of its increased fall and slide speed. Lunar is great for maze traversal, with the slide sticking to walls around corners and rocket jumping off walls being way faster (and more fun) that falling a little, reorienting camera, and changing fall direction. If you don't want to float you don't have to either, since you can shift (and shift styles) any time.

With the official guidebook (and OST!) arriving tomorrow, and hopefully confirming how to read the alphabet, I'm going to post my latest notes on what values I think the letters have.

I broke my elbow soon after buying the game so, having to write with the wrong hand, my notes are pretty ugly. Also the papers did double duty as a tea mug coaster. :) To the right of each character is a running tally of how many times I saw it, and to the left is what I think the letter is. Couldn't be 100% sure of Q and X though I did have two undecided letters, so those are Q and X or X and Q. The numbers are all certain because they appear in order on a clock. On the paper with the numbers you'll see my guesses at the letters on the big teal-colored sign in Jirga Para Lhao. Yes, they're trolling us by posting the letters in -almost- alphabetical order across the top!

Still at chapter 23 so don't spoil me on the game!

About the alphabet, did anyone (here or on other sites) try to translate the writings surrounding Saghassi's paintings? I wonder if they reveal any more details about the world.

Definitely agree with this. I've warmed up some more on the game after beating it and just popping back in here and there and doing a couple side quests and then playing something else.

I was getting pretty down on it when playing it in big chunks and trying to do all the sidequests between each story mission etc. I stopped that and just did 2 or 3 story missions a session until beating and that helped, and the side quests are much less grating when just doing one or two here and there as well.

I don't have access to them in the game yet, but if you can point me to high quality images of them online, I'll do my best to read them!

These two videos (1) (2) do show them, not sure if it's enough to read them though. There could be some "location" spoilers, depending on where you are in the game. If you're past Episode 12 or so I think you're ok.

True, I guess I didn't really experiment much with switching modes during travel, since normal mode basically did everything that was needed. I can see how switching modes constantly could make traversal more fun though.

That person is focusing on just getting the trophies so he takes the photos from too far away!

When I finish the game I'll get this quest line started; I've been playing blind so I've probably missed a ton of things.

There's quite a bit of new Hekseville writing in this game; the phone booths in Vendecentre now say DENNWA (Japanese for "telephone") in dull left-to-right text with no skipped letters. The Arquebus Academy gate obeys the old rules, though, as do the signs in Hekseville train stations and elsewhere in the city.

The chapter titles are also perfect, and even flip from Jirga Para Lhao writing to that of Hekseville when the story takes you there! (Eto chapters have used Hekseville writing too, so far.)

I feel like there are still some rules to be discovered for Jirga Para Lhao writing because a lot of the signs make no sense. Can't wait for the book!

Holy shit

Yeah, it's a MUCH longer game than the first. Especially if you do a lot of side quests, challenge missions, mining etc. Even without that, it's probably more than twice as long just in terms of time to get through the story.

Quick question just started this:

1) are the upgrade costs the total cost to get to that section meaning if I see that the next one is 700 and the next one is 2000. If I just get the 2000 one, do I get the 700 one also? Make sense?

2) what upgrades should I concentrate on to make the game easier?

1.) Yea it's the total cost. So if you just saved for the 2000 one, you'd get everything before it.

2.) Stasis Field is the main one that comes to mind, as being able to lift several objects is immensely useful. Outside of that, none of them (especially Special Attacks) are particularly important imo, so upgrade whatever you want at your own leisure. For example, you come across talismans that basically do the upgrades for you, so that could factor into what you upgrade.

Prolly gonna pick this up finally cause the 15 promotion
I'm curious though the side quests if you could generally catergorize them what catergories would there be
For example
Fetch quests/ short stories
Time trials/ challenge quests
Kill x

Ok thanks that makes the upgrade costs a little more manageable haha.

Some are stealth-based (trial and error) or have you stalk people with your powers, some take away your powers completely (tends to make it interesting though), some have you go about and find locations in the map, some are fetch-based, some involve the use of your camera, etc. Then you have a couple of side missions where you just do the most random of things lol

That being said, they're pretty much all short stories in a sense. Think of them as basically being a bunch of scenarios that Kat just finds herself tangled up in. A day in the life of Kat basically. Some are charming or sweet, some are humorous, occasionally mundane, etc. Regardless of what side mission you do, they're all consistent regarding there being a little story behind it. They even have their own cutscenes and tutorials. Some give costumes, others give stuff like talismans, objects for your photo mode, or even upgrade your health/gravity gauge.

There's like 46 or so of them. It seems that a lot of people tend to inadvertently get burnt on them by attempting to do too many at once instead of focusing on the story. If you ever feel like this is happening to you, feel free to just set it aside for the time being, as you cannot permanently miss any of them.

How much time did you guys who completed spend mining? It doesn't seem that fun haha. But I want gems.

0. It didn't seem like fun, so I never bothered. I just fly about to get gems, among other things. Or at least I did until I beat the game lol

You do realize that Jupiter mode makes you fall faster right?

I felt that gravity kick in normal mode was the fastest and easiest to change direction, while not being too bad on gravity energy because the talismans for it were pretty common. It allows you to smoke challenges and those bird races pretty easily. Though Jupiter mode sliding is the most fun way to get around imo, especially when you have talismans to speed it up.

Personal favorite was the waitress quest. It was just a riot to me for some reason. Outfit was cute too.

I'm actually bummed they toned down on the challenges in the game (it also would have helped in getting gems). I would love to deliver more newspapers, just flying around and trying to rapid fire at crowds of people was pretty fun.

Very true. I meant to mention Jupiter sliding as well.

So I beat it yesterday, just have some upgrades to grind for to get the platinum. Thoughts:

The art and visuals are fantastic, love the use of colour throughout, even more than in the first game. The odd pop in when you hit an area aside it's really impressive with scale. Kat continues to be a delightful character and I also loved the music and exploring around.

On the negative the story is just awful, (my complaint from the first game). While it eventually answers some stuff it feels a lot like a meandering mess and
King Cai, Elaktrina or what ever her name was and the end boss are all kind of evil because why?
kind of bothered me. Combat still felt uncomfortable in the handling and the camera could be a pain at times.

Overall it's still great, quirky and imaginative and I never thought it would get a sequel but still has some issues.

I'm still playing through. I'm on about Chapter 16 or 17. My pros and cons so far:

Pros
I love the sidequests. They almost always crack me up and offer unique challenges and variety. I think there have been a couple of them that got on my nerves, but I've done over 20, and I've enjoyed them all.
I love Kat, of course.
The sounds they make in dialog are hilarious, sometimes. Must be a Japanese thing. Love it.
The lighthearted tone. The game makes me laugh more than any other. Very silly.
The flying around.
The gem collection. Nice way to pass the time.
The way they give you a relatively full gravity gauge and other powers from the start, rather than having to work your way up from a very low level, like they did in the first game.

Cons
I don't use Lunar or Jupiter mode much. Maybe I'm intellectually defective, but I find it too cumbersome to think about which mode and sub-attack would be best under which conditions. Also, I find Lunar mode hard to control (although it looks very nice).
A couple of the sidequests have been aggravating at times.
Some of the fights have been annoying, but that's probably on me.
I'm in the middle of a robot-control mission right now that's kind of a chore.

That's about all I can think of for "cons."

Enjoying the game. It's fun, entertaining, and occasionally laugh out loud funny. It's certainly unique, which I appreciate, too.

Unfortunately I can't find anything with the Jirga Para Lhao alphabet yet... but it's a wonderful strategy guide with a ton of beautiful artwork just like the first book was!

Quick question:
Without spoiling myself, I know I'm just before
Act 3
. Is there some free roam after the story is over, like in the first game? Thanks!

HStallion

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
So I just got to
Heksville
and I can see why people were not a fan of episode 12.
That was not the place to introduce Jupiter style or make it the focus at all
. Other than that still really enjoying the game though I have to ask will I be able to
return to the original area?

Just finished and platinumed the game. This game is so bleak yet optimistic, love it. I love the exporation of this game, the traversal. I love Kat as a character. I love how it builds upon the first game. I love almost all the challenges(fucking hate the idols one) and sidequest.

I recommend this game.

Wow. Just found the play time counter in stats and saw mine's at 61 hours. I have some idle time, but damn that's way higher than I'd have thought. Anyway, still chipping away at sidequests post game.

Finally got access to the Saghassi paintings, but I'd be really appreciative if someone already has high quality screenshots of them. Not much to report as I can't make a lot of sense out of what they say, but I'll post about them in the spoiler thread.

Just finished it (including all the side quests), it was great! Really hoping we'll get some surprise announcement of a third one in some years, like it happened for this one lol.

Still felt like there was a lot of overpadded stuff though, and some missions and sections were pretty frustrating and/or tiring. Open-ended enough to get a third game if needed at least :p

So I'm done with the game, and since I'm not a PS+ user I figured I would copy my save to USB as I usually do, and noticed that the System Save is freaking 665mb large!? (while the autosave itself is 4mb). Anyone have any idea why it's so huge?
