Greece votes OXI/No on more Austerity measures

That is not even the biggest obstacle. But a Grexit could be the first step into a crumbling EU that might look a whole lot different in 15-20 years.
EU should revert back to a simple trade union. All this integration nonsense will be the downfall for both Euro and EU.

The nerve Germany has to be so arrogant keeps amazing me. Same counts for us Dutchies too but the Germans are on a whole different level. The WWII argument is 100% valid and the country should know their place after they got forgiven for their BS.

EDIT: Specifically talking about those wishing for the destruction of Greece and throwing it the dark ages...

I doubt they would say no on principal if Greece's economy recovers. It's like people warning that people are disincentivised to set up companies with high levels of tax. They're not going to turn down money.
Surely Greece will recover eventually, but if the same corrupt fucks run the country (including government workers), history will only repeat itself.

Greece just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about German culture (I'm an expert), but work ethics and punctuality are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Southern Europe where you can get by while being a lazy bum. If you screw Germany over, you bring German rage onto yourself, and the only way to get rid of that rage is servitude.

What this means is the German public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to bail out Greece again, nor will they allow them to default on their debt. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Greece has brought the entire German military on themselves with this move.

Greece, publicly apologize and ignore the referendum results or you can kiss your Mediterranean islands goodbye.

I laughed.

I'm genuinely surprised the EU politicians didn't make a big show of drafting up a bill to boot Greece out of the Eurozone and/or the EU over the past week. Ultimately, we're at the stage where cards have to be shown, and I'm expecting the Greeks will have nothing and the EU will have a flush.

Is this for real? Or are you just trolling?

And then you wonder why people bring up the 4th Reich theories... judging by your post (which I hope is not indicative of the German public), the German "ethics" haven't changed that much since WWII. :\

It's an ancient gaf meme, originally about Final Fantasy 13 coming to Xbox 360.

This is kind of funny, I wonder what the military could possibly do other than destabilize all of Europe, spend more German money, and then have the western powers collectively bitchslap Germany for the third time. Those are the only 3 things I can think of anyway.

LOL, I'm a FF noob. :3 Thanks for the link tho!

tapantaola just shot himself in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about NeoGAF culture (I'm an expert), but knowing your memes is a huge part of it. It's not like it is on Reddit where all you need to know is how to be an asshole. If you don't know a native meme on NeoGAF, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is to learn the meme and overuse it for the next month.

What this means is the people in this thread, after hearing about this, won't take tapantaola serious anymore, nor will they reply to his posts. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but tapantaola has alienated an entire thread with this move.

tapantaola, publicly apologize and post a "I am sorry" reaction gif or you can kiss this thread goodbye.

For argument sake, can Greece lose land as a result of them not paying their debts?
They could have to sell some more harbours to Chinese to get some cash, so maybe.
In the case they default and are let down by the ECB/EU, I mean.

Well the Greeks took money but refuse to pay back to the terms offered, so if they refuse to pay, the EU can't just go "owh well" and walk away right?

Another country cannot just annex Greece's land because they don't pay their debts.

How does that lead to other countries getting Greece's land? You're talking about an invasion.

Haha, it still works.

Greece is exiting the Euro.

Apart from debts, are countries allowed to sell land to other countries? Never thought about it, honestly.

That's how the US doubled in size thanks to the Louisiana Purchase. Jefferson just bought the land from Napoleon, who was strapped for cash thanks to the Napoleonic Wars and had a lot of land in North America that wasn't being heavily used. It isn't so common these days though.

It was just a thought, like if Greece doesn't pay up, the the EU gotta get some return of the money they lost so taking Greek land (like the harbors or islands) as ports. Idk it was just a question. Sorry if it sounded silly and such

They could take Greek land, yes.

It would involve a lot of men with guns, but yeah, Europeans have been known to engage in nonconsensual land transfer over the past few millenia.

Yes but how would they go about taking Greek land? It's not like Greece would hand it over. They would have to invade and take it, which obviously wouldn't happen.
And in either case, a bit of land wouldn't really benefit the countries that took it. It would cost money, not get them money.

I'm not sure you get what a default means. If a country defaults, then its creditors are simply out of luck. All of their investment is just gone. No refund. It hurts the credit of the defaulting nation, but the creditors don't have any right to Greece's stuff unless Greece agrees to it.

The only way they get anything is if they decide to go to war, and I am pretty sure no one in Europe is insane enough to go to war with Greece over some bank loans that can't be paid back.

Greece doesn't have a bunch of spare land to give away and much of what it does have was won in wars in the 19th and 20th centuries. It would be political suicide to try selling bits of the country to neighbours.

NATO already has bases in Greece and I doubt there is anyone willing to do some kind of "money for bases" type exchange, at least not for the kind of money they would need to get them out of the hole they're in.

The US got a lot of its territory that way.

Why wouldn't they be able to? Unless their laws don't allow for it.
Russia sold Alaska to the US

Well Russia sold Alaska to the USA for starters.

I admit, I didn't pay too much attention in History lessons a few years ago. Thanks :)
