Gregg Popovich on the election: "I'm just sick to my stomach."

I'm glad we're finally starting to realize evangelicals in America are disgusting hypocrites who deserve no sympathy and no respect. They are all talk and this election proves it.

I'm an evangelical Christian who voted Hillary and find everything about Trump to be absolutely horrifying.

But yes, many of us are. I'm sorry.

Man, Pop is incredible. And it really means so much coming from someone like him because he has such a diverse audience in terms of the electorate. I can read all the fantastic New Yorker and Atlantic articles I want, but no one who actually puts any thought into anything would have ever voted for Trump unless they were straight up nihilists/psychopaths, and on the off-chance decent fact-based articles make their way through the morass that is the Breitbart-infused FB newsfeed of ~40% of the electorate, it would just be dismissed as "biased media" anyway. But folks like Pop hit a lot broader audience than that. Hope others similarly situated can make their voices heard too.

While my Lakers often had to go up against the Spurs when we were actually making it to the playoffs and there was a pretty heated rivalry, I'll definitely be cheering on the Spurs this year along with my Lakers.

Man I love Pop.

Also, I will stab in the neck the next person who compares him to Belichick because of his media shenanigans (that let's be real, were always done half in jest).

Man the NBA seems to have some good people where the NFL just gets worse all the time. I' a college basketball only fan. Only watch NBA when the Bucks are in the playoffs. (Ha!) Maybe I should follow the NBA more.

Pop is an incredible man. He's made great comments before on police brutality and the like, he's just a well knowledgeable and all around great guy.

So many great coaches in the NBA, all the other leagues don't even come close.

The fact that someone who is simply head of a basketball team, rather than head of state, should come across as infinitely more thoughtful and eloquent than our current president elect will hopefully not be lost on anyone.

Phil Jackson knows about triangles.

To talk about Third Way Democrats in a time like this is pretty low.

The NBA's got good people and good fans.

Why are NBA coaches so much more in tune with what is happening socially and politically than NFL and NCAAF coaches? Bill Belichick and Nick Saban are fucking morons. They might be great coaches, but they are fucking morons when it comes to social issues.

NBA continues to be best American league, especially when it comes to political and social awareness

Since we're all posting things about the NBA coming out with some hot fire, Ernie Johnson dropped this last night in relation to faith and politics

People are gonna give Ernie shit, but I understand that he was trying to give a positive message

The, Kenny's take resonated with me the most. Seems to happen more often than not when it comes to politics, he seems most in tune with what is happening in the world

Possibly due to the international influence on basketball?

I’m a rich white guy, and I’m sick to my stomach thinking about it. I can’t imagine being a Muslim right now, or a woman, or an African American, a Hispanic, a handicapped person. How disenfranchised they might feel. And for anyone in those groups that voted for him, it’s just beyond my comprehension how they ignore all of that. My final conclusion is, my big fear is—we are Rome.

Terrifying times indeed.

Where is basketball popular? Most of the top players come out of predominantly black areas in major urban centers, virtually all of which lean heavily liberal, or they come from overseas where the politics are completely different. NFL/NCAAF recruits tend to come out of the south/midwest and areas that lean more heavily conservative; virtually none come from out of the country. The political leanings and life experiences of the players is obviously going to inform coaches, even if they personally haven't experienced those same things in their life.

I don't know why they call Phil Jackson the Zen Master. I always thought Pop has way more day-to-day wisdom.

Jackson earned that nickname well before Popovich came on the scene. You can't just take away an established nickname because a more deserving candidate came along. I agree with you, but them's the rules.

Pop is class. Always love the way he celebrates with his players after the grind he puts them through to get there.

No surprise. Football recruits a lot of it's players and managers from the south and Midwest where the bastions of conservatism is the strongest. Same goes for baseball.

The NHL, I'd be curious about since there are a lot of Canadians and Scandinavians in the league.

Zuckerberg has built his entire identity around his business and money

there are no morals there, no stances beyond empty donations that will not affect his pocket

Zuckerberg has tried to do a fair amount for education (some of it was successful - Summit schools. Some of it not - Newark). He donated a fair amount to hospitals in SF.

Mark Zuckerberg's problem is that he's politically naive.

Eh, there's a lot more southern culture embedded into football.

That should tell you most of what you need to know. College football especially.

Yeah, Zuckerberg is not totally money motivated. He would've sold ages ago if so.
