Growlanser IV: Wayfarer of Time - Vita Compatible! |OT|

I wish the game was a bit more liberal with save points, it's not an ideal portable experience.
Yeah, it's a bit irritating, especially since there are times when you're not able to create a record despite having a save point available.

Are save points that important when you can just put the system to sleep?
I'm not very good at the game, so they'd help me. I'm of the opinion that most RPGs should copy Dragon Quest's failure state, and just bounce you back and halve your money, but since Growlanser insists on having me load a previous save file, I'd like if it I had more opportunities to save.

I'm a bit paranoid about leaving it in sleep mode for extended periods of time. If I play on the commute or during a work break, I might not be able to get back to it for 8+ hours. I don't really want to have to work about having to play the game again before the battery dies.

The PSP and especially the Vita last a really long time in sleep mode. Days.

I need help. I need to hatch my egg and I am told to go to the spell research lab to get a dollhouse. It seems that I have been everywhere I can but can't find this research lab.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The research lab is a door off of the outside courtyard.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
There are 10 characters you can recruit. You won't be able to switch characters until like halfway through the game.

If you really want to know who are playable, here is the list. Some of them can die in the story if you pick the wrong decisions or don't do some of their side events and thus, can be missed. It's possible to have all 10 live through the ending.

Remus, Eliza, Vallery, Frayne, Hien, Leona, Regina, Magnus, Meline and Tricia

Well... Regina did die on me at the start of the game, so how's that? Maybe it's possible to keep the spoilers minimal, though it's ok if you can reveal if she's alive or something.

I'm only four hours into the game, but if you
watch the opening at the beginning, Regina's shown in a cutscene that isn't at the beginning of the game, so I believe she comes back.

She comes back later on in the plot so do not worry. She is a missable character though as she can die for good later on

Ok, this will be my GOTY now if it satisifies something like that (home base, many characters, etc.)
Glad you're liking it. Should note that that's one of the reasons why I like GL so much.

I made a dumb bet so I'm stuck playing Sonic 2006 today when I was going to play some more of this. :|

Aeana made a post saying the manual would be posted either yesterday or today. Is it up yet?

In the dollhouse, can doing one exercise both lower and decrease stats? I swear my familiar's Strength decreased when I chose the Conversation exercise, but I could be crazy.

Ugh, my order is still waiting for the arrival of Ragnarok Odyssey (I ordered them together, I save a few bucks in p&p). And now I noticed RO's release has been pushed to September, at least based on the online store I used.

Yes increasing one stat might lead to a decrease in another. For instance if you choose "Exercise" a lot then choose "Study" you might loose a bit of strength.

Just beat the game. Took me around 50 hours, but I was taking my sweet time leveling up skills and such. Definitely up there with 1 being my favorite. Gonna have to replay it a couple more times to judge which one I like best. Now the only Growlanser I need to play is 6.

1 is probably my favorite because I felt the battles were more creative. I mean it's the first game in the series but it had so many nice ideas for battles. I loved how varied they were like how you had to have the 2 army fight each others or how you were able to drop bridges during battles. I also found the pacing to be much better in the first. All of your characters have mysteries that are tied to the main plot and the plot mix everything at a good pace. In comparison, the plot in 4 takes a while to get interesting.

I have yet to play 6 too!

I like 1 the best. It gets a major edge because of the music, but I also like the visual style - particularly the backgrounds - the most, as well. And I think I like the story the most too.

Had the game freeze when I tried to save at an inn. :( Could be my PSP though.
Given the other two issues that are definitely NOT PSP related, the edge-of-map encounter you can't fight or get away from (got hit by that very early in!) and the inability to set the doll house by the one guy, I'm inclined to think the game's just buggy. Then again those seemed to be scripting problems, so who knows. A new PSP-3000 at this point probably isn't a bad idea if you want to keep the ability to play all PSP games available.

First had Iwadare music, didn't it? The stuff afterwards seems to be fairly bland and forgettable, with GrowIV being A BIT better, but it's a shame after Langrisser's largely great music. And I imagine GrowI translated better to the PSP screen given it was a PS1 game, though I wouldn't know if GrowIV was a 240p PS2 game. Guess I could see what II and III output as.

The boss battle theme is so great. Probably the best in the whole series. I agree that it has the best plot. Like I said before I loved the pacing and how all of the characters story are an integral part of the plot. Some of the twists are really good too and they aren't cheaply introduced at the last minute. You see hints here and there throughout your journey then they finally drop the surprise on you. I really enjoyed the twist with Misha for that reason.

It'd be hard to choose between either GL1 or GL4 now especially with the PSP versions. Both are so good.

II and III had some great 'blood pumping' battle music with tunes changing based on new events in battle.

Does IV do that still?

So I'm at the part
where we reunited with Bauer and are leaving the city
, I still notice that nobody's changed on the Friendship Meter, does that mean I'm not gonna get a good ending or something?

yes, the only GL OST i ever bought. why did they stop using iwadare? was he just too popular after a certain point? i guess he's just too busy/expensive these days.

music will change when the mood of the battle changes. i don't know how much variation there is, but i've heard the sad theme a couple of times.

Just got my UMD copy in the mail. This is the third time I bought the game, but the game is worth every penny.

i had to exit a map at some small section and couldn't recall the exact location. i don't think triangle showed it. no big deal, but i had to restart the map.

but i think i'm stuck. currently handing out
flyers for the shop. also finished escorting some cleric group. borders are closed off with endless soldiers. maybe i need to finish the shop quest first?

Oh, you mean that sort of thing. You can get a summary of the story thus far from your fairy if you raise her stats to a certain level. But yes, I think you may need to finish the flyers first because she's a part of progress.

This certainly isn't a game that gets easier the farther in you get, I've hit a pretty significant difficulty spike. Fighting enemies with a bunch of healers has turned battles in long wars of attrition. I just finished mission 20, but I think I may need to grind a bit because I'm a much lower level than the enemies I've been fighting.

I was wandering if anyone had this problem. These is an enemy at the edge of the map but only half of it visible on the screen. As I appraoched the enemy I end up in a loop where battle is initiated, I enter all my commands but go out of battle mode then renter battle mode and repeat. I cannot get of this cycle so I lose all progress.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Thanks

Don't think I've ever encountered that bug but it must be one of those rare situations that got past QA.
